The rooms and suites of the historic resort are each unique in design and location, all with authentic antique furnishings, original coral stone walls, spectacular views, and elegant canopy or four-poster beds. This is our fourth stay at The Crane. This is a deluxe property with fabulous ocean views from most units. It has beautiful ... pools and one of the best beaches in Barbados. It is not near the "hot spots", but is a wonderful place to escape and relax. Hots spots are a car or taxi ride away. It is less than 10 minutes from the airport, which is nice. Can't wait until the new (third) restaurant opens.

Wonderful honeymoon spot!
Honeymooners Sep 12, 2009
We had a wonderful stay at The Crane for the first half of our honeymoon. It is a luxurious resort with great tasting food ... and a friendly and helpful staff. Our oceanview room was fabulous!! We were looking to be secluded from the world for a little while so it was perfect for that. Most of the action in Barbados is on the other side of the island. The beach is gorgeous, but be aware that the waves are very rough on the east coast of the island. Overall it was a great experience, though a little expensive for food and drink. It was worth it, though. We would definitely go back!

Awaken to the roar of the Atlantic and the swaying of the Coconut Palms in the gentle cooling breeze that never stops. One ... of 10 best beaches in the world and excellent service by staff who couldn't be more friendly or helpful. On site restaurants wonderful. Side trips to snorkeling, plantation houses, restaurants. Shopping excellent.

Amazing hotel!
Jenny Sep 1, 2009
The hotel and views were amazing. Quiet, romantic and excellent service. The food at Zen and L'Azure were great! I live in ... Florida and have seen Bahamas, Jamaica, and the DR; the Crane beach is my favorite. Beautiful pink sand! The only complaint is the A/C is not very effective at cooling the room. Basically, the fans and island breezes are more helpful.

I would definitely recommend 2 things: Cool Runnings catamaran cruises for snorkeling with the turtles and to hire a private tour guide. Our tour guide was provided by concierge at the Crane. His name is [...] and he was knowledgable, professional and extremely nice.

Emily and Michael Aug 31, 2009
The hotel was beautiful! We had a really great time. The hotel was under renovation, but it wasn't too loud or noisy, we ... just missed out on the things they were building at the time. When finished this hotel will be practically perfect! The restaurant L'Azure was pretty pricey, but had delicious food. There is not too much going on from that side of the island, the hotel is mostly for some R&R. But they were currently building up shops and a little village right on the grounds. Definitely would recommend this hotel!

Love Crane but....
EC Jul 3, 2009
I've stayed LY at the Crane in Ocean facing 1 BR Suite. We were in Bldg 5. That's how I first fell in love w/Crane. Quiet; ... newer bldg; you could hear ocean wave. TY, with economy being what it is, rooms were offered at significant discount. Orbitz offered 1 BR Ocean for significantly lower price vs. other websites offering same type of room. Perhaps b/c of that, we got a room in Bldg 2 which is one of the older buildings. It technically faced the ocean but it also faced the pool as well where we woke up every morning to kids shrieking. So, if you like being close to the pool and the reception area, it's fine but, it was not as nice as LY. Definitely not worth $350 so I'm glad we got a deal but disappointed that it was not as nice as the other building. We asked to switch to another bldg but somehow there was miscommunication and the other operator could not confirm what the first operator had promised to do. The location is remote from the other attractions; however, we had a car so it was not a problem. If I could do it again, I would stay on West Coast of Barbados and just drive out to the beaches of the Crane Beach area as most of the restaurants/nightlife is on the West Coast but the hotels are more expensive(and nicer) and the water is very very still -- like bathwater and we prefer waves. Barbados is very nice and there is lots to do and less expensive than Anguilla; however, Anguilla has the far better food/restaurants.

Beautiful resort
Adam Oct 20, 2008
The grounds are beautiful. The pools were fabulous and it had a great beach. The staff was very friendly. The rooms were ... spacious. The bathroom was really large and included a jacuzzi tub and a large shower, plus two closets. The air conditioning was not great. There were no controls to control the temperature and it didn't seem to do a great job of cooling. That would be the only complaint. The location was little far from most of the mian areas on the island. It was typical to have to drive 20-40 minutes to go to restaurants, shopping, etc. Overall, it was a great experience and I would recommend staying here.

Savitri Oct 18, 2008
The hotel is currently under construction & there are no signage. At nights the lighting is poor & very dark.Prices of meals ... at the hotel were expensive. Based on the the location there were not many alternative restaurants nearby. The beaches were beautiful & the staff were helpful & friendly.I should have chosen a location central to Bridgetown. I believe in 2010 after all the construction is completed the hotel will be very elegant & beautiful. There were not many inhouse things to do-exercise room etc.I was holed up for two days because of heavy rainfall.

The Crane
Michael Aug 1, 2008
It was a very nice experience. Lots of construction going on but it was not a great inconvienence, just kinda annoying at ... times. The A/C couldn't keep up with the heat during the day but we weren't in the room most of the time anyway so no biggie. None of the kitchen appliances worked except the range. I'm sure they would have fixed the issue but we didn't really need them. The staff was friendly, very easy going, and the service was prompt and with a smile. Overall, I would recommend anyone looking for a quiet, nice, not so touristy atmosphere, to give the Crane a try, but try to wait till the construction is over.

Gorgeous Rooms
Erica Jul 14, 2007
The Crane Resort is a very nice place to stay. There was a lot of construction that was taking place when my husband and I ... visited, which was a bit annoying during the day. The room that we stayed in was gorgeous and had a beautiful view. The hotel is located out of town so plan to travel for approximately 20 minutes (one way) if you would like to go out to eat. We never tried the resturants, but they looked very elegant. The view onto Crane Beach is supposed to be one of the best in the world and it is easy to see why when you step out onto the balcony. The staff was extremely friendly and the resort overall had a very safe feeling.

To go eat, I would recommend Berts Bar which is located outside of St Lawrence Gap towards Bridgetown. They have excellent brick oven pizza and sandwiches. This is approximately a 20 minute drive from the Crane.

all occassional get-away
Thomas Jun 20, 2007
The crane was both very business like with accessible to internet service (free e-mailing). Yet it is also very family as ... well as a very private place to get away to.The ground was beautiful and the veiw was fantastic(ocean view). This was a birthday and farther day trip to my spouse and we couldnot have had a more relax environment with fully ascessiblity to what ever we needed to maintain the privacy. But when we were ready for activity, it was available as well. The crane is a great place for whatever the occasion may be. We had both a fun-filled as well as a relax vacation.

The crane was a very secluded resort and you had to travel a good way, depending on how you are traveling,ie., bus or driving a car, for shopping and other restaurants and activities. There are two very nice restaurants on the grounds at the resort.

If you are looking for seclusion, this is the resort for you. If you would like to get out and about to see Barbados, this ... resort is not the best option. The resort staff does not assist with excursions to see the island. The room was great though. Very historic. Nice view!
