Good value

I basically needed a place to sleep and a shower and coffee in the morning, and I got all for a reasonable price (20% off ... special). Rooms are attractive and have touches of the original architecture/moulding, but "refurbishment" was evident. Sink plug non-operational, refrigerator was part of honor bar and needed a key I didn't seem to have. Both items probably could have been addressed during my stay if I'd been there long enough to call them in. Downtown location is good and bad - central to transportation and certainly convenient for business travelers, but somewhat noisy with cars, fire engines, at night. Also, homeless people sleeping on sidewalks and in doorways, virtually no street parking, hotel and lot parking is $20+.

I wouldn't bother trying to find street parking. Find a garage or use the valet park (only option) at the hotel.

Not worth the money
heidi Jul 11, 2009
Overall, the hotel was ok. Though for the price it could have been better, much better. Also, their website doesn't state ... that they have a $22 a day valet. One of the reasons I picked this hotel was because I did not see a parking charge. Next time it will be a Super 8. This hotel was nothing special, at least not to the extent that the hotel thinks that it is. The first night we checked in there was internet issues that the hotel staff did not know about. Their on-site IT person was useless; we knew more about the internet than he did. I say save the money, go some place else. At least with a cheaper hotel one expects something to go wrong.

Great location and hotel for price
steve11 Jul 4, 2009
My wife and I went to San Diego to get away for a few days. THe Bristol Hotel was in the perfect location. It was right ... across the street from the mall and a few blocks away from the Gaslamp Quarter where lots of restaurants and bars were and lots was going on. It was perfect to walk to starbucks in the morning or walk to dinner at night. The hotel was about ten minutes away from SeaWorld and the beach. Coronado Island was a little more than 10 minutes away as well. Everything was perfect to get to from our location because entrance to the I-5 was just a 1/2 mile up the street. Would definately recommend this hotel to people who are on some sort of budget but still want to stay in a nice contemporary hotel that feels a lot nicer than the price looks.

Go to Gaslamp Quarter ... it will have everything you need as far as dining or nightlife.

Great Staff, Good Location
Mom/Baby Nurse Jul 3, 2009
This hotel was a very economical option priced well below sponsoring hotels for our conference. It's beautiful boutique ... aesthetic, walking distance to convention center, Gaslamp, and harbor were great. The rooms were a bit small and lacking for enough electrical outlets as the building is older, but this wasn't a big deal for us. The absolute best was the customer service. Every staff member was helpful no matter what the request! At times I was wistful for a pool, but overall had a great stay and would recommend for business travel that is a cut above ordinary.

Great Stay at The Bristol
libraryman Jul 2, 2009
Every staff member I came in contact with was awesome. They were all about customer service and strived to make my stay the ... best possible. The room and bathroom were spotless. My room had two small windows that would open. The location was great for public transportation. The Civic Center trolly stop was a short walk and it is also close to the Broadway bus stops. I would stay here again!

Loved The Bristol and San Diego! We spent most of our time in the Gaslamp since it was walking distance to the hotel. I ... recommend Woodfire Pizza Grill, Richard Walker's Pankake House, and the Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf for great food. As far as clubs/bars I recommend On Broadway (dance club) and Altitude (rooftop bar!). Wish I had more time to enjoy it all!

Great Intro to San Diego
Carol, Relaxed Traveler May 12, 2009
Our concentration on this trip was to explore the city of San Diego and we did just that. The Bristol Hotel provided an ... excellent location to branch out around the city. We took the Trolley Tour to get oriented, spent the better part of a day at the San Diego Zoo, strolled through the Gaslamp Quarter, Little Italy, Seaport Village, Horton Plaza and toured the USS Midway. The Trolley Tour provided transportation to/from the zoo but we walked everywhere else. This was made possible because of the central location of the Bristol Hotel. The hotel itself was beautiful, very up to date in its decor, spacious rooms and friendly staff. We would definitely go back to the Bristol. We have traveled all over the world, and this trip ranks right up there as one of the best.

Be sure to explore Little Italy. It's just a few blocks north of the hotel and provides an entirely different feel to the city. There are plenty of restaurants to choose from that have that "laid back" Italian style.

This hotel was reasonably priced, had very comfortable beds, nicely decorated rooms, in a great location downtown, in walking ... distance to the Gaslamp, Horton Plaza and many good restaurants. The restaurant served great breakfasts and the service was excellent. The bar offered a comfortable place to relax in the evening and we met people from all over the world for interesting conversation.

beautiful, modern hotel
Marni Sep 15, 2008
The Brisol Hotel is beautifully decorated, with soft white sheets and a gorgeous lobby. There were some things that could be ... improved. The dining room was barren most of the time, and closed early. This hotel must have been updated in recent years; there was evidence of it's age in the chipped tub, and slightly sagging ceiling tiles in the bathroom. Overall, I was very pleased with the cleanliness, service and ambiance.
