Breakers - October 2009
AlternaChic2002 Oct 29, 2009
I've been to Breakers several times in the past couple of years, and for the most part, I've been satisfied. My only ... complaint this trip is that the cleaning staff completely disregard the Do Not Disturb sign on the door. I put the sign up so that I can sleep in, and if I end up getting up and moving for the day before the cleaning staff leaves the floor, I will change the sign as I leave the room. But twice on this trip, the front desk called the phone in my room to verify if I wanted cleaning service or not, completely killing the purpose of putting the sign up. Do No Disturb means DO NOT DISTURB. If I wanted my room cleaned, I wouldn't put the sign up. Why don't these people get that? The third day I was there, my sign went missing from my door altogether... no explanation as to why, and I had to call the Front Desk to check into it. They sent a cleaning lady up to replace it on my door again. Some people may think this a minor complaint, and to an extent, it is. But when I go on vacation, I go to relax. And if that means sleeping in and not getting my room cleaned, so be it. Take the hint... *Other than that, I have no other complaints. I would still recommend this hotel to others.

Go to Umberto's at Barefoot Landing. Delicious food and great service.
--disappointed, NY Jul 12, 2009
There were only a few "attractions" that you could walk to from the hotel with out wanting to pass out. My friends and I walked to Broadway at the Beach a couple of times, which was over a mile away. It was well worth the walk because there was a lot to do down at Broadway at the Beach including shopping, dining, bars, Ripley's Aquarium, and much more. There were quite a few restaurants and gift shops that were within a definite short walking distance from our hotel. We had to take a cab to places such as Medieval Times and Myrtle Waves Water Park.

Fantastic Family Getaway
Toots Sep 15, 2009
You have a coffee pot in your room but they the hotel didn't offer coffee. The restaurant didn't open until 7:30a, so no ... coffee or breakfast until then. They had only 1 pool, the other Breaker's down the street had several pools & a lazy river pool, so you had to go 6 blocks down to get to these items.

don't book the north tower
disappointed Jul 12, 2009
Stayed at the Breakers 6 years ago and enjoyed the experience. Decided to go back this year and booking through Orbitz, we ... chose the North Tower. We thought we would have better rooms/views as they were at a higher price. When we arrived for check in we were told we were staying SIX BLOCKS away from main resort, which was evidently the North Tower. Our group of 7 was extremely disappointed since this was not made clear on the website at the time of booking. We wanted to stay in the main resort as it has more ammenities and is more conveniently located to shops. When we expressed our disappointment with the location of the North Tower and requested to be moved to main resort, I was quite surprised with the staff's reaction. They were less then sympathetic and did not really seem genuinely sorry for our disappointment. They repeatedly mentioned that we had booked through Orbitz, not directlty with them, which made it seem as though we were not preffered customers. We were eventually moved after two days, and am glad they were able to accommodate us. I really hate to give a negative review but have to say I was disappointed with both the staff's handling of the situation as well as the lack of clarity about location on the Orbitz site.

"The good, the bad, and the really ugly"
Ed Jun 23, 2009
We made the reservations thinking we would be at one hotel, but was sent to the crummy one up the street. Was suppose to ... have an oceanfront room, but was given a room on the corner with the view hindered by trees. Was told by staff that was considered an ocean front room. We have stayed in hotels with an ocean front, and this was not an ocean front room! Will never stay in this hotel again!!!

Good location, fun hotel
VacationWithFriends Jun 16, 2009
The hotel location was very nice for my friends and I who were either traveling by foot most of the time and or taking a cab. ... The building that we stayed in (the "Seaside" building) was an old, "creeky" building. There were many times on the elevator where we thought that we may not make it out. However, our room was nice and clean - except for our bathroom which could have used a little more cleaning, and was VERY small. Hotel staff was extremely friendly. Both of our hotel keys stopped working at 2 separate times during our 6-night stay, but were quickly fixed at the front desk. The Breakers Resort provided many swimming pools and hot tubs, as well as daily activities that seemed to be more directed toward kids. Everyday there was music playing by the pools (DJ, live music, etc...) which was nice. I would stay at the Breaker's Resort again, but NOT in the Seaside building. I would recommend the Breaker's Resort to a family with children, as well as a group of friends.

I just came back from the Breakers with my boyfriend. The people at the desk were very helpful and went out of their way to ... help us...the pools were beautiful and the views (we had an oceanfront) were stunning. My only suggestion to the Breakers is to add windows to the rooms including the fitness center. My boyfriend and I didn't want to leave the balcony door open, as there was no screen and mosquitos may come in so a window would have been nice. Also, we were lucky we were on the 3rd floor because the elevators were very slow! Other than that, we had an amazing time and would definitely return (and make sure we aren't located on the top floor :)

"Great View"
Traveling Robin Jun 8, 2009
This hotel was near good restaurants and in walking distance of the main strip. The front desk personnel could be more ... friendly. Housekeeping was good and friendly. The hotel sign states that it has been newly renovated, however; the carpeting through out the hotel needed to be renewed. The room was painted good as well as a new updated bathroom. The patio door needed a new handle. Other than those view things I had a fantastic trip.

We were absolutely amazed and very happy with how clean the room was.... Unfortunatly, our happiness was short lived. The ... beds were horrible, I swear they must have been 30 years old. The front desk service was less than helpful and checkin was horrible. Two days, during our 5 day stay, we weren't left any towels. When we asked housekeeping, they responded they didn't have any clean towels that day..... They took our dirty towels and left us with none! We had to hike to the front desk, three buildings away, just to get some towels.

The Breakers Resort
Deb Jun 2, 2009
We knew we were not going to like the room when we stepped into the elevator. We had to hold our breath until we got out. ... Thankfully, the room didn't smell as bad. The description should not read uniquely luxurious....anything but! And our room had an ocean view, but you had to take your life into your own hands to see the ocean. We had to lean all the way over the rail on the deck and look between 2 buildings to catch a glimpse. Did not paint a true picture of what we were actually booking.

My daughter (24 years old) and I went. The Breakers Resort was great (BUT MAKE SURE YOU STAY AT THE 21st AVENUE ... LOCATION)this is walking distance to so much more. Anytime you have a question, call the front desk - very helpful. The only thing we could not get helpful information was the public bus service (run on their own time) Cab service can get a little pricey. But all-n-all - Breakers Resort Very NICE!!!

The Breakers Resort Boutique North Tower
very dissatisfied golfing traveler Apr 23, 2009
The room we were given, the Orbitz reservation room according to the check-in clerk, was on the top floor of one of the ... oldest buildings, was on the street side (Ocean Blvd) so we were serenaded by boom boxes, loud mufflers and screaming passersby until well past 2AM. Then the mufflers and boom boxes were only every once in a while. There was no coffee pot in our room, and none available from the desk. This is the first hotel this century (!!!) that we did not have this feature. we know this is a beach town, and expected some noise, but for the price we paid for April; the room should have been on the ocean side or side building at the least. In the last four years staying in Myrtle Beach this weekend to work a golf tournament, and the fourth hotel we have tried; this is the worst hotel we have spent a night at in Myrtle Beach. We do not recommend this hotel at all!!!
