This was the best resort my wife and I have ever stayed at. The staff was second to none, everyone was completely devoted to ... their job. They were friendly and courteous and would due anything if asked. The scenery was absolutely stunning and the resort grounds were pristine. The room itself was large and very clean the view from the second story balcony was awesome. The room could use a slight refreshing, which we were told is in the works. A visit to the Golden Door Spa is a must. The pool there is also more private, no one under 18 is allowed. There are plenty of local restaurants to chose from just ask the staff for their recommendations. Enjoy your stay we sure did!!

We swam in the pool and hot tub under the stars, we walked the trails and saw lots of wildlife. Bed was one of the most ... comfortable we ever slept in anywhere. The lighting of the grounds and boulders at night was fantastic, very calming and peaceful.

Take the Boulders Trail right on the property to catch a beautiful sunset! A higher vantage point than the Sunset Point that is off of the main pool and also nice. We liked Cartwright's restaurant in Cave Creek for a nice night out. Delicious and beautiful atmosphere. Cave Creek is fun, and you'll still find plenty of cowboy hats and boots.

Pedegral shopping center short walk from hotel. Now has many empty spaces but ones that are rented are very nice. Bought a bracelet and was reasonable. Restaurant in Pedegral much better than in past, still Mexican.

strikingly beautiful get-away
Melissa Aug 18, 2009
The Boulders is situated 20 minutes outside of Scottsdale and 30+ minutes outside of Phoenix in the small town of Carefree. ... This makes it perfect for a quiet get-away, but not as ideal if you are looking to be "in the action" or in a city-type atmosphere. It is definitely helpful to have a car. The location is picturesque and quiet, with beautiful star-gazing and sunsets. The staff were extremely friendly and accomodating. The hotel is spread out, but if you have difficulty getting around or get tired, they will pick you up by golf cart gladly. The spa facilities are beautiful, and we enjoyed the locker rooms and fitness center with state of the art equipment. The spa pool is wonderful, although it closes at 6:30. The spa services are very pricey so we did not get any treatments. The concierge did offer us a 30% off voucher- be sure to ask for one! Fitness classes are included and several are offered every day. The main pool is open 24 hours. The eating options on-site are pricey and didn't seem very varied, but there are enough restaurants within 5-10 miles of the resort to fit all appetites and budgets. The room was large with a private balcony. Bathroom was very large although the shower itself was small. The rooms are a little dated (not flat screen tvs, older telephones, for example), but this didn't bother us. We loved getting the NY Times delivered to our room each morning and sipping tea on our private balcony.

Our stay at the Boulders was more than 5 Star service from the time they opened our car doors, until we checked out on ... Sunday. Privacy was assured and there was attention given to the smallest details. Our stay was very relaxing and enjoyable. Thank you ..

really wonderful!!

This was just a quick one night getaway, so we didn't explore the resort much, however our casita was wonderful. Spotlessly ... clean, spacious, with a huge soaking tub and separate shower, an amazing view of the giant namesake boulders, even a javelina sighting just off our patio! You really feel you're miles from any city, nestled into the desert. The service was excellent but not over-bearing. Worth the trip!

Very Average

I expected this resort to be top-notch. While it is extremely beautiful, I was not impressed with the service. When we ... checked in, there were half full water bottles and a partially eaten block of cheese in our room refrigerator. We ended up being charged for much more soda than we actually drank from the mini bar. Housekeeping didn't do a very good job - it seemed we had to call each day for something they forgot. The spa was very average - staff was not super friendly and I've had many other massages that were much superior to the one I had here.

Romantic get away
Martha Jan 5, 2009
This was our third trip. Golden Door never changes always first rate. The hotel was under some restriction about the ... fireplaces in the casitas. As this is why we stay there it was disappointing. Great beds, relatively inexpensive healthy in room dining options. The food in the restaurants seemed a bit better this visit. Fitness room well done. Lockers etc again reflective of Golden Door. Spa not qute as new agish as in the past. In general all hotel and spa personnel were less professional and though all was done, sometimes not done as well. Was much cheaper this time around. We changed to the Biltmore as no fireplace and the professionalism of the staff was head and shoulders above. But I missed the spaciousness of the casitas. Golf course at Biltmore was more fun. Wekopa even better.
