The hotel is spotless. The staff was wonderful. The food - not so much!! It's the same menu for the whole week. No daily ... changes. Portions are small. It cost us $10 a day for a chair on the beach which is mostly surfers. In order to swim we had to go down a few beaches where there was no rocks. There is alot of locals on the beach selling their "goods" and won't take no for an answer. It became really annoying after day 4. There was a minimum of 10 dogs daily roaming the beach doing their "duty". There is nothing to do at night. The bar is dark, quiet and empty. The town has nothing to offer for entertainment and is quite empty at night if you want to take a walk. Not a vacation spot I would visit again.THE WORST PART ABOUT THIS TRIP IS THAT IT WAS A 5 HOUR DRIVE THROUGH THE MOUNTAINS OF COSTA RICA FROM THE AIRPORT IN SAN JOSE. WE SHOULD HAVE LANDED IN LIBERIA (1 HR AWAY). [...]

For lunch there's a great little Italian deli that makes wonderful sandwiches on homemade bread and delicious salads. As I stated previously, the people are wonderful. Super helpful and very frienldy from the gas station attendant to a local store where we stopped for directions.

Our Weekend In Paradise!

This trip was one of my shorest yet enjoyable and memorable trips. The Hotel was amazing I felt like I was in a "Corona ... Commercial" super relaxed and at ease. The staff was as helpful and friendly as can be. We did 2 tours that were reserved by the hotel A canopy tour which is a 5 hour boat ride and snorkeling this trip was a Amazing. The food, drinks and crew on the boat were wonderful. The boat was super clean which is a def plus. When I return I will be doing that tour again. We also did a 2 hour tour to see crocodiles and monkeys this tour was ok if you like nature you will love it, very relaxing. I am definitely returning to Costa Rica and would not mind staying in the Tamarindo resort. I have absolutely no complaints about the service, staff, rooms, food, pool. Another plus is the massages outside 1 hour of pure heaven! Overall I must say a wonderful experience.

Best Hotel In Tamarindo
Jcrash Sep 2, 2009
This hotel is probably the best thing Tamarindo has going for it. It's extremely nice, right on the beach, great pool, bar ... and restaurant. The Diria offers amazing massages and spa treatments you can get at the beach are well worth your money. Their courtyard is beautiful and filled with sculptures, palm trees, and flowers. Plus, there's a cool little cafe attached to the front where you can get free wireless access. All the food was amazing, and the drinks were mostly strong. The main road thats it's off of can get a little noisy and they have thin walls, but things get quite pretty early. You'll probably be awaken by some bird noises and morning traffic though. I didn't mind too much though since I wanted get the most out of my day as it gets dark around 6:30 PM everyday. The free breakfast buffet that is included is fantastic and that's worth getting up early for in and of itself. One word of warning, don't uses their very expensive shuttle service to and from the airport. It's $80 and you can get a cab to take you for $60 or another local shuttle service for $20. Their activity tours also seemed a bit higher priced than similar local ones as well. Also don't pay for very limited range or their wireless (didn't reach my room). $15 for the whole stay is actually cheap, but the cafe next door is free. Go across the street to rent some surf boards from Mato's or Marseis. The point break doesn't get huge at the Diria, but when the swell is right, it's sweet. Best bet on small surf days is to walk to the river and pay the boat guys a buck to cross over to Playa Grande. From there it's a 10 - 15 minute walk for the best breaks. You can also try just getting a cab over there. There's also some good surf tours you can get from the local shops which could be useful in the right conditions. Be sure to check surfline before you go, if that's your main attraction to Tamarindo.

El Coconut is great chi-chi place to eat. Amazing surf and turf. Also La Bella Vita and Bruno's is great spot. It's located on top of the supermecado and offers you an amazing view. They have Lebanese, Spanish and Italian Cuisine that will rock your world (best beef in the country, or so I'm told). Babylon Club is cool, it's located behind the bar at the end of the turnabout... it's kind of hard to find at first and you might have to ask some locals how to get there, but it's worth it. They have a mini-half pipe for you to skate in the bar and play surf videos on the big screen. No cover, and contemporary mix of club, hip-hop, rock, reggaeton, dub, reggae music. Mostly a young crowd, but I found it more tolerable than most of the other clubs and bars.
