We stayed here for a few days prior to spending a week on the East End, and then for a few more days once we got back. Both ... times, the rooms were large and clean, the staff friendly and helpful in making various touristy-type reservations / recommendations and they really do have the best burgers on the Island! Plus the location was fantastic! Right in the middle of 7 Mile Beach and a short walk to the gorgeous beach. The only negative I can think of was that there were no elevators, so if you get a room on the 3rd floor, it's a bit to haul the luggage up. But other than that relatively minor problem, this place was fantastic.

I had a burger at the Calypso Grill that was possibly the worst burger of my life- absolutely no flavor. My wife had the fish and that was good though. We dove with Deep Blue Divers and they were amazing.

The hotel is located smack in the iddle of 7 miule beach. Must cross semi busy street to get to beach but it's half the price ... of staying across the street. Staff is wonderful and very helpful and accomodating. Renoir and Leanora at the front desk handled every request perfectly and instantly. Fridge in room is a good help as food can be expensive on island. Restaurant on grounds Sunshine Cafe has the BEST burgers I have ever had poutside of the US. We ate there 4 nights out of 6. Great place to stay all around. Note: Grand Cayman is a very busy and city like island. Do not think you will be secluded anywhere on 7 mile beach. For that reason only I probably won't return to Cayman. But if I did I would have no problem with SS Suites again.

Luv2travel70 Jul 27, 2009
We loved the Sunshine Suites Resort and I would highly recommend it to anyone. We did have some minor problems while we were ... there. This is a non-smoking property and we could smell smoke coming in thru the vent in our bathroom. I did report this and the front desk staff said they would check on it but that it would be hard to know who it was and that it's difficult to prevent people from sneaking and smoking in the room. The water pressure was not that good. The shampoo/conditioner etc seemed to be less then full when we arrived. I made coffee one morning and the creamer/sweet n low was very hard making me think it must have been old and it was not replaced by the maid. However, the bed was made every day and fresh towels were left and the floor was swept. The staff here was very friendly. You can not beat the food at the Sunshine Grill. We had their fish & shrimp tacos and they were delicious. I also had the curry chicken wrap that was out of this world. The service was excellent. Also, the naked wahoo and fried green tomatoes appetizer was also delicious. They offered a free continental breakfast each morning that consisted of cereal, oatmeal, muffins, waffles, toast, bagels, fruit, juice & coffee. You could have an omelet made for $6 US. The grounds were immaculate. The pool was small but we never got in the pool and it was never crowded. The room was spacious. It had a small sitting area w/ a couch that was a pull out bed, a chair, a small round table w/ 2 chairs and a flat screen TV. It had a fridge, microwave, stove top, sink w/ dishes. A nice bathroom w/ granite countertops & a king size bed w/ another flat screen TV. We went to Coconut Joes and we were seated and sat there for 10 mins w/ no service so we got up and walked out and went back to the Sunshine Grill to eat. We also went to Margaritaville and ordered the Mahi Mahi w/ garlic mashed potatoes. The fish was full of bones and the potatoes were instant. Needless to say, we sent it back and they took it off our bill. We went around 6 and there were only 3-4 couples there. They said their busy time is during lunch hour. We visited Rum Point which is very nice. They have picnic tables you can sit at w/ menus held down by coconuts and you can order burgers, chicken etc. We don't drink but they have a variety of mixed drinks there. You can also book excursions w/ Red Sail and rent jet skis. They also have hammocks. We drove down to Kaibo beach and ate lunch. We had the grouper sandwich that was very good. We also went to the beach area right down from the restaurant in Kaibo and found lots of starfish there. We went to the dinner show Vivendi. We didn't eat the dinner we just went for the show. It was pretty neat but not sure if it was worth $40 US pp. We ordered a small dessert for us to share and they added gratuity to it and it ended up costing us like $13 US. Gas is around $5 US per gallon. The island is very expensive. We did a sunset dinner cruise and paid $75 US pp and it didn't even include a drink w/ your dinner. Water was free but if you wanted a coke it was $2 US. The food was fair. It included Mahi Mahi(mine had bones), chicken w/ a mushroom sauce, salad, soup, rolls, seasoned vegetables, dessert and a cup of coffee. We went to the turtle farm which was not worth $18 US pp. It was neat to see but not worth the money to look at a bunch of turtles. We visited Hell which is definitely over rated. It's a post office and a VERY small rock formation. We wanted to hike the Mastic Trail and followed the road signs to get there but it looked like a deserted unkept place so we opted not to go. The island is beautiful but their touristy places are unkept and overpriced. We did a 3 hr snorkel cruise w/ Captain Marvin ($40 US pp). We enjoyed that. We found the best snorkeling to be at Cemetary Beach not far from our hotel. The Public beach also had pretty good snorkeling and was less crowded then 7 mi beach. We saw the blow holes which was neat. There is a ferry that ...

Great room, we were upgraded with no extra charge. The restaurant was alright, the 'breakfast' was terrible and we ended up ... making our own most mornings. Also, buy coffee filters and get your own coffee, there's nothing worse then a bad cup of coffee first thing in the morning, I thought people would have figured this out long ago. Other than that the grounds are beautiful, beach, well what can I say, it's 7 mile beach. The desk staff could have been a bit more hip to local fresh produce but we found we we needed all on our own. Less fried food at the restaurant and more fresh, local style - I can get a burger anywhere back home, who wants one here!

Not only was the room spotless when we arrived, but the staff was super accomadating at all hours, the food at the restaurant ... was excellent, the grounds immaculate, and the equipped kitchenette was very convenient considering how expensive restaurants are on Grand Cayman. The only downside is that the maids do not do a thorough cleaning during your stay, they only make the beds and replace towels until you leave.
Traveler type: Friends
Food is VERY expensive in the Cayman Islands. Change your money over to CI as soon as you get a chance, a lot of places take advantage of the exchange rate and don't give correct change or charge a surcharge. Almost ALL tabs at restaurants and bars include the tip, so you don't need to add more on, even though they leave that space for you to! Go to Foster's Farms and stock up on groceries. The average bill for a simple lunch is about $50 US, so it really pays to stay at the Sunshine Suites and use that kitchenette!

While we're used to all inclusive, this hotel made it possible for us to visit a new and exclusive location. Otherwise we ... would have not considered Grand Cayman. Breakfast was free, lunch provisions were purchased from Foster's Supermarket, and dinner was available at the Sunshine Grill. The waiters and the food were so good that we didn't get bored going back again and again. The sea is crystal clear and perfect. There is a resident iguana about 20" long; it swims and also sunbathes on the beach. Good photo opportunities!

Do people really go to Grand Cayman to hang out at the hotel? I was all over that island and what a blast I had! I have been ... in the hospitality business for over 15 years so I know a good establisment when I see one. So let me just tell you, I was very plaesed with the professionalism of the staff. They were very helpful! The Westin across the street can provide you with car rental if you didn't get one at the airport. Oh, TRY THE FISH TACOS!!! They are the BEST EVAER!!!

Not great but not bad - a certain charm
LM May 1, 2009
While the rooms were small they were clean. The Sunshine Grill did have great food - Burgers, Fish Taco's and Margaritas. ... Best place to eat is the table service around the pool. Your trade off for a good price is you have to make the walk (pretty busy street to cross) to the beach and carry your stuff and chairs. If you have more than two people definitely get an upgrade room - the "typical" rooms are way too small for more than that. Seems very family oriented. No romance for couples though. If your upgrade really doesnt save you that much money from a location on the beach - being right on the beach is the way to go. If your on a budget and cant spend the extra money this is probably your best bet.

Definitely walk up to the strip mall at the entrance and go to Captain Marvins for the Singray City adventure. Dont need to do the full day one. Do the 3-4 hour one. Only $40.00 a person and you get a nice boat ride, swim with the rays - you wont believe how many there are - and snorkel in two different areas and then enjoy the boat ride back. It is a good deal. Cayman is not cheap - be prepared - food and drinks are very pricey! It is a beautiful island but they get you on the conversion to US dollars and the service fee - i.e. a 45 Cayman money shirt will cost you $69 US.

The Sunshine Suites was more then anyone could have offered during a scary trip to the Caymans. We got there just one day ... before the hurricane hit..The manager made many phone calls directly to our room to inform us that he would take care of us the best they could..He also comfort us about the hotel and its safeness...He asked for anyone that would like to go to the 3rd floor incase of any flooding...The hurricane was not critical on the island but I knew that I could rely on the staff to help us if we needed any assistants..It was a wonderful hotel..More like a resort because of the staff... Perfect location to the ocean yet not caught up with the hoopla of being able to relax in a very quiet surrounding of the hotel..I would go back and plan to tell friends..

STAY AT HOME AT SUNSHINE SUITES
Michael Jul 27, 2008
Since we have been staying at the Sunshine Suites we have experienced a quiet relaxing laid back environment where the staff ... is almost invisible. Your room is cleaned daily and supplied with fresh towels and linen. Even the dirty coffee cups and the few dishes we used were washed and laid out to dry. You have a complementary continental breakfast including scrambled eggs, fried potatos, toast and an assortment of other goodies. Lunch and dinners can be enjoyed at the small bar/grill adjacent to the pool,or you can either fix them in you room in your kitchenet or choose one of the may resturants along Seven Mile Beah. For your exercise you can enjoy the pool on the hotel property or walk 100 yard across the street to the white sands of Seven Mile Beach. Where you can soak up the sun, swim in the crystal clear water, snorkel and see the undersea life. If you are more laid back and just want to lay on the beach you can also do that and watch the people or sand crabs that pass by. Hope you enjoy a visit to the Sunshine Suites as we have so many times. Maybe we will see you on one of our future trips.

Just OK
Sharon Jul 6, 2008
We are avid scuba divers and that was the main purpose of our trip. We chose this hotel because of location to where the dive ... store was, because it was on SMB and for price. Based on those criteria it was fine. What we did not like was all the little kids running around and screaming until 10:00 PM every night. There is only one restaurant and the food is not that good. Even though there is a free breakfast everyday there is not much variety. So we would rather pay more for a hotel on the beach that has better food and no kids.

There are numerous restaurants nearby. We went to a jazz bar named Havana Club, a regular upscale bar named Legends and a very upscale Sushi restauramt called Yoshi.
