Before booking this hotel, I read all the reviews and at first I thought no way as I kept reading the reviews it was all mix ... alot of people loved it and then you had some that did not like thier stay. In my opioion Great hotel to stay in. My husband and I both enjoyed our stay here. We visit Dunn's Fall river, we shop outside the resort - Do not be scare to leave the resort, people there are freindly and only want to have your business. Yes it can get overwhelm with everyone trying to sell you something but other than that nothing to worry about. If you want to getaway and relax this is a nice resort to do so. This is a family resort, but they have alot of activities for the little ones so if your a couple dont worry to much. The Drinks were awesome, the food, I am a very picky eater, on the other hand my husband loved all the food there. Don't think about it anymore, just book it!

Reserve for the fine dining ahead of time, must be 2 days before... take advantage.. also, take the shuttle to Dunns Falls for $6 and pay to get in for $15. Shopping is also near - walking distance. Go out during the day, less people will bother you. Police are usually out there anyway..

We brought our 1 1/2 year old daughter with us to Jamaica... my husband was skeptical at first, but he loved this resort.. ... especially the location.. my daughter also had a great time.. the entertainment was great, food was good and we had a fun, yet relaxing time.. we did a few excursions - Dunns Falls and Dolphin Cove.. can't say too much about the night life since we had the little one.. but didn't need that.. we were exhausted by the end of each day.. loved the trip and would absolutely return to this resort.

Not Likely to Return Sep 12, 2009
The advertised tube slide we went on once. There was only one and it wasn't that entertaining; almost painful going over the ... joints in the tube. We were looking forward to some beach volleyball, and maybe it was a bad week but my 18 year old son and I were the only ones to show up. We had to hunt for some others and finally got enough for 3 on 3 and 4 on 4 the next day. There is not a whole lot to do at the hotel itself. The beach area does not give much swimming room and there is seaweed on the floor to walk through, not just sand. I love the ocean, but none of us spent much time in it here. There is a list of activities for each day, but we were there the last week of August (part of their slow season in Jamaica) and just didn't find most of the activities actually coming about. Make sure you bring stuff to do, books to read, etc. We did several trips (zip lines, Dunns River, and Dolphin's Cove). Of the three, the zip lines were our favorite, Dunns River next, and Dolphin's cove was a bit disappointing. None of these trips will last long (like when we were in Cancun and a trip went from early morning until dinner). Two - four hours was it and with the lack of things to do at the hotel it got a little boring at times for our son. The food was very good here and they set up dinner on the beach twice -- VERY NICE! The entertainment was okay, but after the first few nights we skipped the rest. It seems everyone in Jamaica feels they deserve a tip for what they do, and some were even obnoxious about it. NOT at the hotel, but our on the trips. We went into town once but tired of fighting off the would be sellers, taxi drivers, and beggars. They won't just let you shop. For us, once was more than enough for Jamaica and 5 days was too long. I would have preferred to go back to Cancun a second time in hind sight. We did run into some people who stayed at Sandals in Ocho Rios and they said that their hotel was great, loved the pool and such, and were planning to return to the same place. Our experience wouldn't bring us back.

WEEK AT THE SUNSET JAMAICA GRANDE
LOVING JAMAICA Sep 6, 2009
THIS IS OUR 4TH TRIP TO THE SUNSET JAMAICA GRANDE AND PROBABLY OUR LAST. OUR FIRST 2 VISITS WAS WHILE IT WAS RENAISSANCE ... JAMAICA GRANDE,WE LOVED THE AMBIANCE AND THE CLASS. THE HOTEL HAS GONE DOWN IN THE PAST 3 YEARS SINCE WE WERE LAST THERE. IT IS NOT A FOUR STAR HOTEL ANY LONGER. YOU ARE NOT MADE TO FEEL AS WELCOME AS BEFORE. THE PEOPLE WORKING THE CHECK IN DESK ARE SO SLOW AND CAN BE DOWNRIGHT RUDE, WILL HELP YOU WHEN THEY ARE READY, NO MATTER HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE IN LINE. THEY WILL STAND AROUND JUST TALKING. BEFORE THERE WERE 5 RESTAURANTS, NOW ONLY 3 ARE OPEN, AND THE CLOSED DOWN JAMACIALICOUS, WHICH WAS OUR FAVORITE LITTLE DINER, OPENED FROM 10 TO 10, FOR IT HAD ITEMS YOU COULD SPECIAL ORDER, WHEN YOU DIDN'T WANT THE BUFFET, WHICH WE GOT TIRED OF QUICKLY. THEIR MULTI MILLION DOLLAR MAKE OVER IS THE SUPER SIDE. DID NOT SEE BUT A FEW PEOPLE USING IT. I THINK IT WAS A WASTE AND THEY COULD HAVE USED THE MONEY TO OPEN UP A LOT OF THE LOCATIONS THEY CLOSED DOWN AND TO REPLACE SOME OF THE FURNITURE THIS NEEDS TO BE DISCARDED. THE LOCATION IS THE BEST THING ABOUT IT NOW. I LOVE TO WALK INTO OCHO RIOS AND SHOP OR HAVE SOME REAL JAMAICAN CUISINE. THERE IS ALSO THE HONG KONG CHINESE RESTAURANT WHICH IS EXCEPTIONAL (SU MEIN IS AWESOME). STILL A GREAT PLACE TO STAY, BUT NEEDS TO LOWER THEIR PRICING NOT IN THE SAME RANKS AS THE NEWER HOTELS.

Paulette's family review Aug 28, 2009
Our family loved the hotel and location. It was walking distance from the shops which saved us from the cost of a taxi. The ... room was clean and had everything one would expect. The air conditioning in the room was of a comfortable temperature. We had a lovely balcony with view of the sea. The nighttime barbeques were an unexpected bonus. The staff was all helpful and friendly. The food was great and it helped that they changed the menu's daily which meant we had variety. I liked the fact that they catered for vegetarians and made an effort to make the veggie meals tasty. My granddaughter loved the kid's club where she was able to meet and make friends with other children under the supervision of experienced staff. This resort offers excellent value for money and I would definitely go again. My only criticism was not being able to take food into the bedrooms and no pay phone in the building which forced us to pay the high cost of the resort phones.

This hotel was the worst we've ever been to. I am so disappointed in it. To make matters worst, my neice and nephew's ... clothes were stolen. Hotel staff and manager did little to this situation. We still have not heard from them. They are slow. Rooms were without iron. I requested one, and 5 days later, still no iron. Towels were taken from our room and not replaced. I can go on and on and on. Very disappointed. Want to keep your stuff. Don't stay there.

Disappointed Aug 19, 2009
I was disappointed because first of all the room was not ready when my family and I arrived but we did not complain. The ... thing that bothered me the most was that my very important notebook that was placed on the night stand came up missing. I placed it there while the room was being cleaned and when I returned it was no where to be found. My step dad had to insist that the cleaning staff look in the garbage and low and behold that's where it was. Because of that incident, I had to pay $100 deposit to secure our valuable because of fare that our money or important papers will be stolen. When I expressed my concern to the front desk staff all she said was "I'm sorry." Well I'm sorry too, because I will never patronize that establishment again or recommend it to anyone.

They made sure to keep us entertained. The rooms are nice and clean. The do need to make some improvements on the furniture. The dresser draws were hard to open, the closet door and balcony door need to be adjusted. They also should consider to extend the balcony space it was a bit small. Overall me and my husband had a good time and would return in the future.
