Great hotel
First time to Daytona Oct 5, 2009
Clean! Had "motel" type rooms as well as "hotel" type rooms. We stayed in the motel type room which had all the basics and ... a great bench outside to let you enjoy the ocean view and dry off your towels. Staffed by adults day and night which made me feel safe.

Beware of the "Ocean View" Room. We were on the 1st floor with a view of the parking lot. If you got up on your toes, you ... could see the water. I guess that counts as "ocean view". If you want to see the ocean, make sure you book an "Ocean Front" room. Room was clean with small kitchen. Nice furniture. Pool is very small but it has a 60 ft "J" shaped water slide that my 7 year old went down at least 70 times in one day. That was worth the cost of the room. The cafe only takes cash which was a pain. South Daytona Beach has changed a lot since the 80's. There are very few places to eat as the empty high rise condos don't support the local businesses. Most of the stores and restaurants across the road are gone.

The "Deck Down Under" under the Port Orange Bridge has great fresh seafood and you see the dolphins swim by every night. Get there early, before 6:00 pm as this place has a line every night.

A nice place to stay....
Luke in P'cola May 20, 2009
We went on the week of May 17th but ran into a terrible rainstorm that lasted the whole time we were there. We didn't get to ... enjoy this place as much as we wanted to because of it, but it was nice that they have an indoor pool which a lot of places don't have. We were able to use and enjoy that. The beachview room was great and the rooms were clean. They just need to keep their elevators going though. We have 2 small children and had to go up and down 7 flights of stairs because the elevator was broken for a day.

Not as great as other reviews suggest.
FA May 13, 2009
I was quite disappointed by the Sun Viking Lodge. The room decor is outdated, unsightly and in need of serious cleaning - if ... not replacement. The room we were given was on the ground floor right by the pool. We even had to walk through the wet pool area to get to our less than private room. While this might be ideal for some, for us it was uncomfortable. I went to the front desk and requested a more quiet and private location. I was offered another room for $50 dollars more per night. After I declined to pay, the attendant went to talk to his manager. Though the front desk attendant was nice and willing to help, the manager was less than accommodating. He did come down to $35, but then it just seemed like some sort of negotiation tactic. I left the office very upset! The manager lost a customer. He could have turned the situation in his favor by making us, the guests, more comfortable without requiring an extra fee. I travel often for work as well as pleasure, spending at least 150 nights per year in hotels. I have NEVER been asked to pay to move from a room that wasn't comfortable. I will not return to the lodge nor would I recommend it to a friend.

Nice Hotel
Fenswood May 12, 2009
The hotel is in a quiet location of Daytona Beach. The staff were very friendly and allowed us to check-in early. Our room ... was on the 5th floor overlooking the beach. It was a really good size, with 2 queen size beds, a large tv and a well-stocked kitchen and dining table. We visited mid-week, so it was very quiet. The beach is lovely with nice soft sand. We enjoyed sitting on the balcony in the evening watching the pelicans fly by.

The Sun Viking is a great hotel. We had oceanfront room and you could hear the waves from the balcony. The room was nice, it ... had a kitchen, 2 doubles, and table and chair, so very good size. The only thing is it could use a new paint job. It has indoor outdoor pools very nice. Staff was very friendly and helpful. It is a quiet peaceful location on the beach. I would stay there again.

Very family friendly
Todd Jul 7, 2007
The Sun Viking Lodge was clean and comfortable. I liked the fact that there was an extra sink outside the bathroom, it helps ... with kids. The kitchenette was also very usefull as it saves you from eating out at restaurants the entire time. We also enjoyed the daily list of activities from bingo and basketball to water balloon toss and ice cream socials.
