We enjoyed the people we met, the beautiful weather, and the escape from everyday life. The waiters in the restaurant were ... very attentive and made us feel like family. We are accustomed to much nicer hotels, but, I would still recommend this one to someone on their first visit.

Right when you walk in the hotel you feel calm and so far from home. Everyone (the staff) smiles and says 'hello'. This was ... our second stay, we love it. We are actually trying to move to St. Maarten and while we were there this time my husband got a job with Avalon Construction because some of your staff told us about the place, a person to talk to and how to get there (with convinient car rental experience :-) We spent our time exploring the island and of course on the beach, at the bar and in the buffet area quite a bit at the Hotel!!

Great views and food was excellent
Celeste Dec 30, 2008
The Sonesta Great Bay has a great beach,- pool was gorgeous but freezing and the views of the surrounding hills were ... wonderful. The room was too cramped, the doors led to mosquitoes galore and we traveled with my sister whose bathroom door hit the toilet when you attempted to open it into the room. The women at the front desk were so accomodating that I wish to commend them. We found the restaurant food in the hotel to be very good. We came in contact with people who paid substantially less than us but had the all inclusive. I feel we overpaid but we did relax and enjoyed the shopping which was closeby as well.

All the shopping you want along the road walking distance or you could walk along the beach.

Facilities Need Improvement
Susan Dec 28, 2008
Many things about the Sonesta Great Bay Beach are very good--the price when on special, the location--walking distance to ... Phillipsburg, the pool, beach and the staff. But the glaring deficiency is the fitness center. It is a dreary room with few machines and some were broken. It is not owned by the hotel, but outsourced, and the supplier does not keep it up to date or well-maintained. The bathroom in our room was also not very nice. The hot water did not last long enough for 2 to shower back to back, and the door to the bathroom would not stay closed. You could not get into the shower with the bathroom door open, there was so little room.
Traveler type: Couples
If you're looking for a place on the beach but easily accessible to a town with shopping andrestauants, this is a good place. But there is not much nightlife in Phillipsburg and the hotel boes not have a good place to listen to mucis and dance.

Had a great time. Food wasn't bad for an all-inclusive. Staff was wonderful. We had a large group of 24 people. ... Unfortunately, we had Hurricane Omar hit the island. The staff was on top of everything for us. They really did do a great job in preparing for the hurricane. Small place but everything worked out well for us. Very close to town.

Close to town for shopping and eating out. L'Escargot was a great place to eat and very close to the hotel.

Sonesta Great Bay Beach Resort & Casino, St Martin, AN; was very comfortable and very friendly hotel, the room are clean and ... have too much space for my baggages and for my commodities. I HAVE ALWAYS LIKE THIS HOTEL BECAUSE OF LOCATION, STAFF IS GREAT, FOOD IS GOOD AND PLENTIFULL. OH, AND DRINKS ARE ALSO IN ... ABUNDANCE. ROOM WAS VERY COMFORTABLE WITH PLENTY OF DRAWER SPACE. I WAS NOT ABLE TO ENJOY THIS TRIP DUE TO FOOD POISONING (which had nothing to do with st maarten) I GOT IT IN MY HOME TOWN (AIRPORT) BEFORE I LEFT. SICK AND ALL EVERYONE WAS VERY NICE AS ALWAYS.

The great bay beach resort and casino was awesome. The staff were extremely friendly and went out of their way to accomodate ... us. The food was good in the restaurant and at the buffet. A nice stroll down the beach and you were at the shopping district. I was really impressed with St. Maarten. It didn't surprise me to meet alot of repeat visitors to the hotel. I'm sure we'll go back!

john Dec 10, 2007
Very nice rooms with plenty of space. Small pool, but nice beach. Restaurant good for lunch, but prefer close by ... restaurants for dinner. Locatio was great as room faced the bay/beach and front door opened up on waterway and bridge. Great for viewing the mega yachts at 9am every morning going out to sea and evry evening coming back to anchor. Full kitchen very well equipped so buy your own food and save $$$. Friendly place and nice repeat vacationers.

The Sonesta Great Bay Beach Resort And Casino was a very excelent time away. Although my room was a rush because i only made ... these engagements the day before everything was as though it was waiting for me by reservation weeks ahed. There was no mix up or misunderstanding with my stay. The mountain view room, had a gorgeous view and it ws much enjoyed. The location was excellent even though it is a smalll island. i wuld recommend this hotel to anyone planning on visiting St. Maarten.

We had a great time at the Sonesta. The accomadations were comfortable and clean. The Staff was very friendly. The only ... thing I would change would be to have a room on the water side. You can walk to the board walk in Phillipsburg. They have a great pool and beach area.
