There are not many accommodations on the Pacific side and within easy walking distance to town and this is beautiful;. Unsafe ... swimming beach but good pools. Oceanfront description of many rooms is really oceanview and not an easy walk to beach, pools or dining within the complex for anyone having difficulty with steps! Watch out for construction nearby the next few years (and of course time-share sales!!)

Don't stay here

goldelocks Oct 19, 2009

We stayed here for a week in October, there is SO much construction going on, i do not reccomend staying there while this is ... happening. Trying to rest, read a book, enjoy a glass of wine at Sunset, is NOT going to happen here when there is horrible loud banging going on right in the sand in front of the hotel. The roads are horrible and muddy as well. The staff at the front desk as well as security is horribly un-accomodating and we almost felt like we were discriminated for being whatever it was that they didn't like. My boyfriend has lots of tattoo's, and anytime we went out to the pool or Jacuzzi, the Security guard confronted us and asked us for our room number, we were there for 6 days, and they did this every single day. We payed $1000 to stay here, and we were treated like trash. I don't recommend staying here at all.

Room with view of constrution blocking view of water, sewage overflow onto our patio. Overpriced food and beverage. The ... photos of the resort were not telling the truth of the facility. Although the staff did the best with what they had to offer. We will never stay there again. Our room was not ready until 5:00pm we sat at the bar waiting for it and they didn't even offer us a drink on the house for the inconvience.

Can't get any better than this

Muneca Oct 6, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

I loved that this hotel is secluded. It's right on the beach and they have hammocks placed for you to lay and watch the ... ocean. Some of the rooms are just a step out of your door from sticking your foot in the sand. The staff was great! Very friendly! Staying there made my trip to Cabo San Lucas with my boyfriend nothing shy of amazing. my favorite part was the restaurant! We ate on the deck they have outside. Secluded from the other tables inside and watched the waves and the sun go down! I would definitely recommend this hotel to persons that are looking for a quiet and relaxing vacation.

First of all let me say the hotel staff was extremely friendly and very accommodating! There was some construction going on ... but it did not interfere with my stay. Loved my room, my patio was on the sand facing the Pacific. Loved the swim up bar at the pool and happy hour 3:00 -5:00 every day. [...] - the activities guy was really fun. The Solmar is in a great location - it's an easy walk to the marine area and also to downtown. Will definately stay here again!

Great location, unpretentious and homey

Bruja Aug 19, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

We love the staff at Solmar. Our check-in was very smooth, and everyone was quite helpful and personable. We love the fact ... that the beach is restricted, which means no vendors at all. Due to the undertow it is a non-swimming beach. The pool makes up for it, however, and in December when we go we get to lie by the pool and watch the grey whales breach out in the ocean. Solmar is within walking distance of the marina and downtown, so no taxi is necessary.

Take the shuttle from the airport rather than the taxi. It is a slightly longer ride (Solmar is usually the last stop), but it is far less expensive.

Best Trip EVER!

Amanda Jun 9, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

This hotel was amazing! We arranged so we'd be picked up from the airport by a Gray Line Shuttle (horrible driver!). We had ... to drop off a group of really friendly girls first and their hotel looked beautiful but we noticed it was not even in walking distance from the main scene (Cabo Wabo, the marina, Squid Row, flea markets, etc). So we drop them off and drive through the main street and go up a huge hill to our hotel. We are amazed. When you go up our hill we are the last stop so it's wonderful! The only down was that it was on a huge hill. Great walking down deathly walking up! It was a great work out so we didn't use the hotel gym. Three fantasic pools, an ocean view from every angle! You couldn't swim in the ocean but that was not a big downer for us. Rooms were beautiful and you're given a map for easy locating. But take a bell boy it's worth the tip you SHOULD give. We were just being cheap. HUGE shower and bathroom only bad was that the window didn't open and there was no vent. Beautiful ocean view from balcony and only 300 feet from a pool. The staff were veeerrrry nice. I believe her name was Xaviera, she was the nicest one. Very helpful!!! The person in charge of Acitivity Desk seemed to not have a lot of knowledge about activities and seemed to have to force his niceness. But like I said that woman was very helpful. I am staying there next time for sure. The only place else I would stay would probably be the hotel directly beneath it because they were lower on the hill.

You don't have to go to the feal markets or hoof it around Cabo's hills. The marina is full of vendors with great souveniers and you can haggle your heart out! It's in a building labeled Arts and Crafts Market I believe. Just be careful it's on the marina so how the men stare and offer up themselves as Mexican Boyfriends! lol!

Loved it

Alphi26.2Runner May 30, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

Solmar was perfect for me. I had fantastic views and could hear the ocean waves crash throughout the night. I had a cozy yet ... simple room where I could stock pile my own water and snacks I bought from a local Walmart and CostCo. I loved the beach walks and I was able to run from the hotel around town and down to the marina without any problem. The staff was able to ask all my questions. I went to Cabo because I have friends and family who live there so I am quite independent. It really suited me quite fine. I had my own car and went to the restaurants we like. I just ignored the timeshare offers, etc. Those salespeople are everywhere - at the airport and hotel. I was told they are aggressive but I found them to be acceptable and polite. Maybe they sould just tell I had no interest in my body language.

Recreation/Attractions hint

Since my friends live there we had our own car and I really found this a huge convenience and time saver. Parking is available without issue in most parts of the Cabo and the other cities and beaches. Only a few times we had to pay parking but it provided convenience and was worth it. As far as recreational activities, you can go down to Medano Beach and book most of the water attractions right there. You have a bit more negotiation ability. This saved us a lot of money and we were able to snorkle and do other fun stuff. Parking is free. I only recommend you bring your own snacks and drink if you can, it will save you a bit as well. We also surfed everyday we had decent conditions. There are some great shops that have equipment and rent boards. I kept going to Costa Azul which is right down the road. They are sweet guys, offer good rental prices, lesson hook-up and a restaurant right next door. Convenience!

The staff at Solmar were some of the friendliest on earth. They were the most helpful when any questions arose. The ... maintainance of the grouds was spectacular! I've never seen such beautiful surroundings in my life! The room was comfortable, the housekeeping staff maintained it day and night! The food at the onsite resturants was great (try the nacho's!!!) Only downfall was the price of the food. You will spend at least $150+ per day for a couple! Also check to see if your cell phone will work there before your arrival, the phone cards are a rip off, $20.00 for 42 minutes, and after your first 5 minute call the odds of you having 10 minutes left are high! You are on the pacific side of the ocean so you can not swim at the beach, but the view of the waves is worth it! The swimable beach is not far by water taxi! All in all I will be returning! Our honeymoon was PRICELESS!!!

Except for time share, the WHOLE staff was EXTREMELY gracious, friendly and help

Elizabeth Jul 31, 2007

We were inundated with time share people. At the airport we ran the gauntlet of time share, at the car rental they gave us ... this guy to give us directions to Solmar and we couldn't get away from him, trying to nail us down to a time we could see their property, TIME SHARE. Then, we were told our keys weren't ready go see the gal in the lobby for our welcome drink certificate and I just had to walk away to stop her time share spiel. It's fine if they ask, but NONE of them took no for an answer, we just had to walk away to stop the madness. We didn't have chairs on the beach, because you can't go in the ocean at this location due to riptide, so you can't sit on the beach. But it was a nice view, just of no use. The room is billed as a suite, there was a frig and microwave, but no kings available on lower floor, this place is set up for their time share holders, everybody else is just a potential victim to the time share mania.

Dining hint, Short Drive

Park at shopping mall lots and there is an abundance of dining in marina area, looking a all the boats and water. It's $4 an hour or $40 pesos and if you eat at one of the restaurants behind that mall, (there are two different ones in the same area) they can stamp your ticket for the first hour free.

Brasile - excellent "meat experience" delicious, very reasonable, good surroudings and fun staff

--Lets Go, Michigan Nov 9, 2009

Dining hint, Short Drive

Eat at Marco's Shrimp and Lobster, it's the cheapest and best in town.

--goldelocks, Newport Beach, CA Oct 19, 2009

Several places to eat, drink, and play are just a short walk away. The same company owns the Playa Grande which is a 5 star hotel. If you are looking for savings look for all inclusive Hotels as in the Riu resorts.

--dzjohnson, Houston, Texas Oct 15, 2009

Recreation/Attractions hint, Short Walk

Five minutes walk to the marina.

--Super Mike, San Francisco, CA Aug 24, 2009

Money savers hint

Take the shuttle from the airport rather than the taxi. It is a slightly longer ride (Solmar is usually the last stop), but it is far less expensive.

--Bruja, Everett, WA Aug 19, 2009

Shopping hint, Short Walk

The place is in a great location!

--sxibxi, cabo san lucas, baha Aug 7, 2009

Shopping hint, Short Walk

You don't have to go to the feal markets or hoof it around Cabo's hills. The marina is full of vendors with great souveniers and you can haggle your heart out! It's in a building labeled Arts and Crafts Market I believe. Just be careful it's on the marina so how the men stare and offer up themselves as Mexican Boyfriends! lol!

DINE ON THE MARINA. LORENZILLO'S OR BAJA LOBSTER FOR GOOD SEAFOOD. ROMERO AND JULIET'S FOR GREAT ITALIAN FOOD.

Eat local foods, they are prepared very well.

--Cliff, Bend, Oregon May 22, 2009

Dining hint

Go off the beaten path for a real treat.

--Birthday wish come true, Willow Glen, California Mar 3, 2009

Shopping hint, Short Walk

The market is within walking distnace, but it's very HOT in Mexico! You can take a bike taxi for $4.00 per person. Recreation is just across the marina and a water taxi cost $6.00.

The harbor where the water activities are located is just a short walk from the property. Everything from food to fishing is located along the harbor area.

--Roger, Phoenix, AZ Jul 13, 2007

Dining hint, Short Walk

Plenty of dining options within 10 minute walk. We loved Salvatore's inside of Siesta Suites and right around the corner from Mama's for breakfast or Pancho's for a little tequila tasting.

--shawn, USA Jul 4, 2007

Recreation/Attractions hint, Short Walk

It was about a 15 minute walk to the harbor and downtown. If it had been really hot, it would have been miserable going up the hill to the hotel. We really enjoyed the dinner cruise and the water taxis to the Arch.

--joann, Denver, CO May 13, 2007

Dining hint, Short Walk

there are many resturants in town that are reasonably priced.
