Clean Hotel

The hotel is on a great beach. It's a little short on convenience when it came to access to other restaurants, but is ... completely doable with a little planning. The hotel restaurant is completely acceptable, though a little on the expensive side. Try the flying fish wrap for lunch. The hotel is in good shape. The huge deck, beds, and chairs were a great place to enjoy the sun. It is a terrific hotel if you are looking to relax and not to party. The rooms were clean and chic.

The Perfect Get-away Retreat

I just spent a wonderful relaxing week enjoying the Silver Point Villa and its staff. I am a retired lady who was traveling ... alone. It's a well cared for, small boutique hotel that offered the services and amenities I wanted. The hotel had such a nice intimate feeling, with a mod, two-story, open-concept bar and restaurant with Caribbean inspired cuisine. The covered outdoor bar & restaurant offered lovely waterfront dining, with adequate meal choices breakfast thru dinner. Silver Point menu prices, food quality & presentation rivaled those of other Bajan restaurants I visited. (There are no inexpensive meals on Barbados!) I esp. loved the spicy Jerk Rubbed Pork and Sweet Potato Gnocchi & the Jerk Rubbed Hot Chicken Salad, not to mention the rum punch! A beautiful deck overlooks the hotel's wide beach frontage. The deck sports dozens of lounge chairs & curtained day beds & cabanas that overlook the pool as well as the clear blue Caribbean water and beautiful white sand beach. I spent many shaded day bed hours reading and just enjoying the waves, kite surfers and occasional Bajan family beach visitors. I felt very safe there with the full 24 hour security and gated access. I enjoyed the clean, nice sized pool and gratis Wi-Fi too. I chose the Silver Point Villa because I wanted a more secluded, getaway spot. It was perfect, and I certainly plan to stay there again.

A free Bridgetown Shuttle is available 2 days a week. It takes you to Bridgetown and will return you to the hotel if you're at the downtown pick-up location by the scheduled time in the early afternoon. Taxi fares are quite expensive--e.g., Silver Point to Bridgetown is US$25/each way. So this offered a nice money-saving alternative.

Attractive Value with Stunning Views
Houston Guy Oct 29, 2009
My arrival at Silverpoint went pretty well without a glitch. It is a great facility at a very attractive price point. Pros ... of this hotel: Modern amenities in rooms, location is in a quiet neighborhhood away from Bridgetown and other attractions, friendly staff, ample taxis on site, great ocean view from the patio of rooms located on upper floors, private beach with clear blue waters, onsite restaurant overlooking beach with great evening views.. Cons: If you plan on staying for more than few days, a rental car might be useful. This will save you quite a bit because cab rides from the hotel will cost you a huge chunk of change. Wi-fi connectivity within the room was poor. I typically sat on the patios chair outside to get a good signal. On the 2nd night, we had a blocked toilet, but that issue was promptly resolved by moving us to another room. In general, if you don't mind a private location that is away from the major commercial area, you will feel right at home at SilverPoint Hotel. Also worth trying is breakfast at the onsite restaurant. The private beach has waves that are very suitable for kite surfing...

People are nice and friendly. The food is great and healthy. Chef Reggie is very nice and talented. The hotel is beautiful, ... the view is incredible. Nice beach, nice pool, nice decor,...a little bit romantic... I really like it. I will go back there. The only thing is that they should clean better the bathroom when we are in the room. Indeed I still had some sand in my shower the next day. But nothing dramatic at all...It was the sand that I had on MY legs :-) The area is not the best but nobody bothers so that's fine!

We liked it. Didn't LOVE it!
JWard Sep 26, 2009
Based on other reviews, we knew mostly what to expect...especially about the part of being isolated in a neighborhood--it is ... near nothing (which was ok with us--the 75cent buses were frequent)! When we arrived, it was pouring rain (not tropical, but 24 hours pouring) and neither our taxi driver (who was arranged for by the hotel--over priced) nor the hotel staff asked to help with our bags--not the best first impression. Our room was small and originally we were offered a 1st floor room which would have provided virtually no ocean view. We asked to be moved, and they did so. The 3rd floor was MUCH better. Other than having to look over the parking lot and storage area, the ocean was beautiful. We enjoyed our balcony. The room was small, as expected. The closet was nice and necessary, since there is no dresser. The shower water spilled out onto the floor. Sometimes modern design isn't practical! The first night we were made to eat in the hotel restaurant due to the rain and the isolated location. The food was, as mentioned, pricy, but really very good. There are many more expensive places in Barbados that charge a lot more for lesser food. Our breakfast was provided as a part of our package and was very good. However, if I had to pay out of pocket, the cost was very high for breakfast. The hotel staff was hit or miss. They were either very friendly and accomodating or not friendly at all. One server in particular was sick the entire time we were there, sniffling and coughing around our food, and not particularly nice. The bar staff was nice--the drink specials each day were welcomed. At a beack resort, had the staff done more by bringing the food and drink service to the cabanas, beach, pool area, they would have done better business. When I am relaxing in the sun, I don't want to have to get up and walk to the bar each time I need a drink. On the 3rd or 4th day, I was asking a question in the office and noticed how cold their a/c was. Ours has been poor--even spitting water on us as we slept, but we were dealing with it. When I mentioned it, they sent a maintenence worker to check it. He "fixed" it--but it worked the same. We saw him the next day. He asked how it was working--we said the same and offered that he go back to the room while we were at breakfast. He never did so. At check-out, we mentioned it was still not working. They aplogized. Also, we would have liked to have seen the cabana beds (which are great)cahnged more often. After a rain, it sometimes took a day or two to change them, making them unusable.Considering the neighborhood, and that we were offered drugs (not as dramatic as it sounds--just a note for travelers unfamiliar with this) each time we went to the corner market (about 3 blocks away) to catch the bus into town, the hotel should consider running a shuttle (golf cart) to the area to make people feel more comfortable--especially at night, as the streets are dimly lit. **Next to the market is a new place "Food Harbor"--local, authentic food. Prices were great. [...], the owner and [...], the manager fed us well during our trip!Overall, for the package price, we were ok with being out of the way. The neighborhood will continue to change--I'd imagine in 5 years it will be unrecognizable. Some notes on the beach: nice sand, the waves weren't as rough as describes, the current is pretty strong, plan on seeing beach dogs on a daily basis.

Take a catamarn trip (we used El Tigre and booked ahead for a great price--ask for [...]), go to Oistins to say you went (it's very over-rated and for tourists), and use the buses (reggae and gov't)--the price is right, but be aware, not all of the drivers are safe! Mama Mia Italian Pizza and Deli in Hastings is worth the trip--we went twice! And eat at Food Harbor in Silver Sands--great local food, new, clean and very good prices!

Unique Hotel
Mary D. "Bajan born" Aug 24, 2009
Don't let the neighborhood of Chattel houses or the skeleton's of once big fishing boats detract from this wonderful ... facility. Silver Point Hotel is just that, a hotel. The room was not oversized, but we didn't need anything bigger (larger suites are available). It was clean and well kept. The outdoor dining was absolutely the best, all meals were exceptional, fresh fish everyday (all other meats are available as well), free "Rhum" drinks several times a week in the evening hours. The chefs, at times, would bring meals out to us so we got to know all the staff fairly well. We watched sea turtles in the morning swim by us as we ate the best omelet in town. We actually ate at another location near by for breakfast, however the food quality did not come close to Silver Point. Being Bajan born, I still have family members that live on the island; many of them know Silver Point as they eat at the restaurant regularly. The uniqueness of this location are the day beds provided next to the outdoor dining and other lounging equipment facing the beach. We always had a breeze as we watched kite surfers, board surfers, windsurfers and local fisherman during the day. The day beds were clean, fresh sheets were put on each morning and if it rained (which it did on and off; tropical rains) dry sheets would be provided if requested, but we waited for the wind and sun to dry them naturally. All staff members were friendly and helpful. We felt very safe throughout our 10 day stay as 24 hour security was provided. Silver Point is close to the airport which made getting to/from very easy. It is also close to Oistins Fish Market where fresh fish is grilled or fried and local musical entertainment provided. Overall, this holiday was relaxing, afordable and truely outstanding in every way. I plan to return with friends and other US family members so they too can benifit from a "real" Bajan holiday!

My experience was average with the hotel experience. I was very disappointed with the hotel ability to investigate their ... third party vendor when it comes to recommended touring vendor. In my case that shows lack of responsibility because we could have been seriously hurt on the tour.

Nice & Private
Beach Lover Aug 6, 2009
Nice looking hotel which was split by a road. Beach side (rm#s 100-400s) is a better location. I stayed on other side of the ... street with no view of the beach. Because we had friends traveling with us, I feel the best rooms were the suites & the lofts. Only difference between the 2 is that the suite has a kitchen area (no stove) and is larger, while the loft only has a mini fridge and is smaller. Next time, I'd go for the suite on the floor level with ocean view. Security walked the premises all night. Hotel food was pricey & room lights were not that bright (wasn't sure if I shaved well until I went outside). Need a rental car because the hotel is off the beaten path, which we loved. & right on a beach. Nice & quaint. But remember you are in the islands & on island time. Staff is very friendly but laid back. So be patient if you are use to the fast paced world. To sum it up, we'd go back.

Headed in the wrong direction?
JC Aug 5, 2009
We stayed at this hotel previously (2007) and loved it. I guess it's true that you never like it as much as the first time. ... The hotel had fully expanded by our second trip and was far noisier and less personal. We loved the location, away from the noise of all the most touristy areas, but the hotel itself has found a way to compensate for this. Lots of loud late night and early morning conversations/ yelling/ partying and door slamming happened all around us, and thanks to the permanently open breeze vents and thin doors, we heard it all. A big factor might have been the smaller room, closer to the water, and on the ground floor. Previously, we were on the third floor, across the street in the fuller suites while construction finished. In addition to the noise, the incredibly gracious staff had been replaced with timid zombies who just seemed to stare at us as if half awake. We had a broken light fixture in our room, a fridge with uneven legs that would rock anytime it was touched, the cabanas looked moldy in places, the hotel restaurant staff went awol twice (nobody to seat/serve us until we knocked on kitchen doors), the security guards weren't around to open gates to let our car out...it just looked like everybody was on autopilot. Bad autopilot. Nothing like our first trip. Next time we are going to try a different hotel.
Traveler type: Couples
Gratutity is not expected according to barbados natives we met. Most places charge 10% service fee anyway. We often tipped above this for really good service, but the prices at the hotel restaurant were pretty high and we tipped less and less as the week went on. Pablo Dante's in Maxwell (main road through Oistins) was a good cheap place to eat morning-night, we always tipped more there too.

Quiet, Relaxing Hotel
TarheelCharlotte_NC Jul 26, 2009
We stayed July 18-25, 2009. We were pleasantly surprised by the accommodations. In our past travels to the Caribbean, the ... rooms have been very warm due to lack of quality air conditioning. The AC unit was directly above the bed on the second floor; therefore, it was cool and comfortable which helped us get a good night's sleep. We stayed in a loft style suite. The den & bathroom were downstairs & the bedroom was upstairs. It was nice having two separate rooms. Room 321 has a window upstairs which gets lots of early morning sun. If you're not an early riser, I would not get this room. Other rooms with the beds upstairs did not appear to have a window upstairs. Our room had a small fridge & coffee maker. Since we had a fridge, we picked up food & beverages at the IGA in Oistins. We took the #11 bus to Oistins. It was only $2 US. The grocery store provided a shuttle back to our hotel. Do not take the bus at night. Take a taxi instead. A taxi is $10 US to Oistins & $15 US to the Gap. The hotel was less than half full. Therefore there were plenty of sun beds and chairs at the pool. We expected very hot temps in July, but there was a great breeze at the pool, restaurant & bar both day & night. The food at the restaurant was great. However, it was expensive. I recommend the flying fish in Creole sauce for dinner. My husband liked the chicken piccata for dinner. If you eat there on Sunday night and they are offering the pasta specials, my husband enjoyed the fire roasted pepper Alfredo. Shane makes great raspberry margaritas. Eurita was our favorite waitress. We didn't do any swimming in the ocean because it appeared too rough. However, there were some people swimming in the ocean there. Many people surfed & kite boarded daily.

Pablo Dante's in Maxwell (main road through Oistins) was a good cheap place to eat morning-night, we always tipped more there too.

Take the gypsy taxi vans into Bridgetown. They are fast, reliable and WAY cheaper than the cab services.

St. Lawrence Gap was the best location for restaurants and was just a 10 minute bus ride. The cost for the bus was $1.50 each in Barbados money.

Definitely go to the Oistins Fish Fry on Friday night!

The taxi service is very expensive in comparison with the public transportation- if you can, find out about the locals Vans and Buses- I save a bunch of $ that way and was able to do much more on the island because of it. You can pick up on the public transportation just a short walk from the hotel.

The best food we had was at a Thai Restaurant and the Roots and Rythm show, most the other places were not that great.

Go for the surfing, you won't regret. Hook up with James for a great surf tour and local flavor. You can get in touch with him through his cousin Barry running a local surf shop, google him.

Dining at the Silver Point Hotel was great my boyfriend and I had several good meal their BUT if you want to venture out into the island for the full experience, which I would recommend. The taxi ride is going to cost you. Even though the Bardadian dollar is 2 to 1 in terms of exchange. Note that this is tourist destination a their is a considerable mark up. Average round trip taxi ride is 60BDS which is 30US dollars and an average meal for 2 in Barbados runs around 110BDS = 55US dollars this inludes beverages/coctails for 2(taxes, & gratuity are included up front) so an average dining nite out will run at least 85US dollars so be prepared. It was worth it in my opinion you only live once! But if you can find nice accommodation on the West Coast of the Island I would recommend it, It's a more developed area, the Beaches their nice and you would be in walking distance to some fine dining options.
