Smoke gets in your eyes
Smokey Oct 10, 2009
Motel was old and needed work. Both sinks were hard to operate and dripped. Toilet flushed sometimes. Door screached when ... opened. Small TV. Front desk told me at arrival that I couldn't have a room with a balcony because they were booked till Monday and would have to pay an extra $20 a night. Had to check a box saying I would agree to pay $350 if caught smoking. All four nights I was there the 'Cigar Bar' they have upstairs in lobby was going full tilt. The entire building, including the restaurant, was a gagging, cigar filled stink hole. It took my breath away. Define smoke free facility too me. They were pretetious without cause or merit. Food was a notch above Dennys. Old and tired. Will not stay there again. Oh, and they allow dogs. My wife is allergic to dogs. Think they shampooed after a dog was in the room? Not

as you walked into the main lobby there was a smell of mold and old cigar smoke from the cigar bar. It really puts you off. I ... was afraid the rooms were going to smell that way but fortunately they didn't. The walls were thin and you could hear people talking next door.

Close to downtown Portland
CA Traveler Jul 26, 2009
The room was large and had a big window that looked out over the parking lot and line of trees. Mostly we saw trees and sky ... which was nice actually. Hotel location was the main reason we stayed there and it worked very well. They have a restaurant on site but it is not used by many guests. They have one server who is taxed by more than a few customers. I prefer hotels with self-serve breakfasts so I can get something quick and get out. This was too long. It was quiet and clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

False Advertising
Rubbertramp Jun 26, 2009
Hotel looks nothing like advertised pics on Orbitz. When I asked the receptionist, she said all rooms look pretty much alike ... and offered to let me talk to the manager in the morning. If the rooms don't look like the pictures on Orbitz, then the powers that be should remove the pics. I booked the room based on the pictures. My room is so old, however, there is a crater in the mattress where I suppose lone people have been sleeping in for decades. A little gross.

It provided all the basic ammenities. We did not have to leave the hotel for meals, entertainment, swimming or exercise. ... The location provided easy access to the freeways and points of interest. After a day of touring, it was nice to return to the hotel and eat, drink, and relax.

Will never stay at Shilo Inn again
Angela Jun 22, 2009
This stay was the worst stay in a hotel I have had. We basically camped in a hotel. The faucets were leaky, the rooms ... outdated, the phone didn't work and there was no guarantee any problems we reported would be fixed. I felt taken. When I found the Shilo Inn on Orbitz then went to the Shilo Inn Portland/Beaverton website it advertised updated beautiful suites, which is one reason I picked this hotel. Then we got there and I walked in to a suite (if you could call it that) with dark greenish bluish rungs, 90's decor, a thin beadspread, outdated TV with no hookups for portable DVD player, and a leaky bathroom faucet. There was a bathroom with a sink and an outer room with a sink which was nice but no kitchenette, or other room with a couch just the bedroom and a microwave and refrigerator in the room and that is the reason why it was called a suite! The one thing we enjoyed was the deck attached to the room. It overlooked the courtyard and fountain which was nice, probably the best part of it. Location was good very close to Portland Rose Test Garden, Japanese Garden, Zoo, Children's Museum and downtown.

Fairly quiet, cabin-like hotel. Went to Portland for a wedding and really liked the city. Kind of quirky but a neat city with ... beautiful surrounding countryside (although I suppose the green comes at the cost of continual rain).

Great for pets -- lots of others brought dogs, too. Nice, clean rooms with no smoke smell. Dining room service was slow ... because there was only one wait person for a large crowd. But food was OK and location overlooking blue water fountain was very nice.

Overall, this hotel has gone downhill
Oregon Mom May 25, 2009
We stay at this hotel at least once a summer b/c it has a good outdoor pool and lovely courtyard. However, this visit our ... room smelled moldy and the carpet was stained and dirty. We still enjoyed the pool but the hot tub was murky and had a weird odor. We will be looking for a new summer swimming location.
