Look for restaurants that have a Happy Hour and order their appetizers, that's a meal in itself. You get greater variety of tastes and it's cheaper and more fun than entrees.

Major League Sep 7, 2009
The location was perfect for walking to all the historic sites and many restaurants. We visited most of the historic sites ... plus China Town and the Italian Market in South Philly, all very accessible. The lobby was open and welcoming, with many spaces for reading or meeting with people and our room was spotless. The front desk staff was very helpful.

The hotel was a really nice suprise. The beds were awesome, the rooms were large, the restaurant and bar and lobby area were ... real nice, and all of the staff were friendly and helpful. It's a great location too -- for off and on the freeway and for seeing all there is to see in Philadelphia. I would definitely book here again.

Lin and Bob...travelers... Aug 20, 2009
This hotel is beautiful, clean, friendly and located close to Old City, Philladelphia. Everything was in walking distance. ... The only thing that was a shock was parking at the hotel. It was $29.00 + $5.80 tax a night. There is no parking on the streets around the hotel. But once we got over the shock of the price we enjoyed our car being brought right to the right door! The personel were all happy to sever you.

The hotel is located in a great part of town. Lots to do and enjoy, even if just walking around. The staff was very ... courteous. Our only complaint was that they put us in a room without a window. It was looking into the pool and it was very noisy as we were trying to put our toddler to sleep even past 9 pm. It also had a chlorine smell in our room. However, next time we'll just know to request a different room. I will still return to this hotel.

Broken Traveler Aug 8, 2009
Everything was an added expense. Outrageous valet parking prices. Should have option if park yourself or valet. Elevators ... not working properly, Some staff were obnoxious when requesting information. When a hotel says it has ameneties they should be included in the price of the booking. Should not find out after reservation confirmed that I will have to pay double to cover the ameneties. Unreal...paid extra $300 just in forced valet parking.

Do not take the trolley tours for the entire 90 minutes. Get on and off often. If you take the entire trip it is very rough on the body. The drivers drive too fast over old streets and it makes for a very bumpy ride...nauseating. They speak so fast you cannot catch the historical sites as they point them out. Take stops clustered together and walk the historical sites then get back on and go to next cluster.

Excellent location to old town
City Hiker Jul 31, 2009
This hotel is in a great location to old town and the Delaware River/Penn Landing riverfront. There were a couple of minor ... issues with my room but after talking it over with the hotel staff they upgraded the room that I was in and I ended up being extremely happy with the best view of the river and free breakfasts and hors doevres in their club room. The hotel is in excellent condition except for some plumbing issues. The pool is big and indoors but under a glass ceiling and there were a number of people enjoying it. The only thing that could have been better is if they would replace those awful noisy hotel doors that end up making noise no matter how careful you are to quietly close.

Nice, clean accomodations. Only 3-4 blocks from the historical sights. We commented that we appreciated coming back to a ... smaller hotel at the end of a long day, it was relaxing. Housekeeping seemed understaffed. Rooms didn't get made-up until late in the day and had to wait for extra towels, etc. Staff was friendly and helpful.

Wonderful people; a few caveats
Out of town relatives Jun 30, 2009
The outstanding thing about the Sheraton Society Hill is the warmth and helpfulness of the staff: from the clerk at the ... front desk who checked us in to the counter person at the Starbucks in the lobby; we felt welcome. As to the room, it was the normal room one would expect at a three star hotel; comfortable, but nothing special. And we liked being so close to major historical sites such as Independence Hall as well as comfortable, tasty restaurants. Our major concerns were that the hotel nickel-and-dimes you on some items. There is a ten dollar a day charge for wifi access and a glass of skim milk on the breakfast delivery menu is $14 (wow!) We got one small bar of soap that was apparently supposed to serve us both at the sink and the shower for all three days we were there. And it would have been helpful if the hotel's site mentioned the fact that there was shuttle service to and from the airport for a reasonable charge ($10 per person). Also, although the waiter we had in the Wooden Nickel was a very sweet guy, the food was well below mediocre. We did like the fact that there is a Starbucks in the main lobby so that one could jump out of bed and grab a latter first thing in the morning. Ultimately, the first and last point we'd emphasize is how nice the staff is. When one is in an unfamiliar city, it is great to be treated well.

the Sheraton Society Hill was very well located, near historic sites, Penn's Landing, and in the heart of a fabulous array of ... restaurants. while the hotel could probably use a minor facelift, the rooms were comfortable and spacious, and the common areas had all the amenities you could want, with restaruant, two bars, and free internet access.
