Winning combination of old and new

Our stay, the first trip to Dublin, was for 8 nights. We were seeking a historic building, on an intimate scale, in a ... walking-distance convenient location. Also, to help with expenses, we wanted a full Irish breakfast. We got everything we wanted plus friendly but professional service in an always quiet atmosphere. In 10-15 minutes, we could walk to Trinity College or go to the great selection of restaurants in Ballsbridge in the opposite direction. Dublin is not high rise, keeping you close to the sky, and the hotel is next to a canal and the lovely Georgian homes of postcard fame. There was so much to do in Dublin, we took only one trip out of town. But those spending dollars need to keep an eye on expenses as the exchange rate can quickly wreak havoc on the best laid plans. That said, Dublin's low-key style helps make it easy to travel well on little. The people are generous and welcoming. Can't wait to return.
