A Decent Resort
Jai Jul 28, 2009
This is a decent resort that could use some changes. The locatoin is good, the rooms have kitchens with great views and good ... beach access. The location is close to Red Hook (a small town with a few restaurants, a few bars, grocery store and the ferry to St John - cost $5). The Marina, which many of the tours start are on the premises. Has good snorkeling, jet skis and other water sports. This resort does not have any restaurants or bars, everything is boared up. It does have a grill set up with hot dogs, hamburgers, fries and frozen drinks for sell until 4. Bring your own liquor! The room was clean, had a updated bathroom, great view and great access to the beach. However, the decor could use some updating, we did have a small ant problem, the screen on the patio door did not work properly and the bed was squeaky. The employees were nice down to earth people who accomodated us with everything we requested, which was nice. To sum it up, if you are looking for a resort that will pamper you, has room service, a selection of restaurants, a gym, nightly entertainment, etc., this is not the place for you. But if you are looking for a clean, quiet, economy type place, don't mind cooking to save money with a nice beach and pool, and friendly security. This is the place for you. If this resort would provide some entertainment, reopen the restaurants and pool bar, have working phones and update their rooms, it would be a really great place to stay in St Thomas.

its really too bad the such a super location has fell into such a state of dis-repair, all bars/restaurants are closed and ... boarded up, and the unit we stayed in (#B104) was in terrible shape, all the fixtures/light switches, bathtub, and toilet were very rusty, ants all over the place, and several lights that did not work. I stayed here 5 years ago and it was pretty nice, hard to believe its has gotten so bad. not worth the money in my opinion. One high point is the beach, I think its the nicest on island.

Beautiful Beach - Rooms Need Updating
The Traveler May 27, 2009
The overall experience was good. Some of the rooms were more updated than others, but all were tolerable. We did not have ... any pests, torn screens, etc. Our room had nice stainless steel appliances and it appeared the bathroom was in the midst of being updated because some of the materials were in the closet. The staff was nice with the exception of one person. They have a grill near the beach that prepared hot dogs, hamburgers, etc.

Stay at Sapphire
Constant Traveler Apr 23, 2009
Sapphire Beach seems as if it was a beautiful resort at one time, but the owners seem to have really let it go and the ... grounds need a great deal of work. Our individual unit left a lot to be desifered as well.

Great time!
Guessed Apr 22, 2009
We stayed 5 nights at the Sapphire Beach Resort and had a blast! The resort is on a beautiful white sand beach with clear ... blue water. We were able to use snorkeling and windsurfing equipment along with beach chairs for free. We ran into a problem during check-in. The hotel had no record of our reservation through Orbitz. This was taken care of quickly when the hotel staff called Orbitz. Other than this problem, we had a great time. The staff were friendly, making sure we were comfortable in our room and that everything was taken care of. While the resort is in a bit of a secluded area, we were able to walk (15-20 minutes) or take a taxi ($4-5 per person) to Red Hook. To save some money, I'd recommend buying some food at the market and cooking dinner in your room. The free breakfast was a bit of a disappointment, as they only offered muffins, bagels, juice, and coffee. Otherwise, our experience was great. The room was large, clean, and quiet, with a great view of the beach.

Very friendly resort
Geraldine Oct 21, 2008
Sapphire is a beautiful resort with one of the best beaches on St. Thomas. The staff was very friendly, and really made my ... stay here wonderful. The bathrooms were large and clean, the room service was terrfic. There was adequate closet space for all of our clothes. The location is about 1/2 mile from Red Hook, which has a terrfic nightlife and restaurants. I would stay here again.

Red Hook Harbor for Dining just 5 min away
Harald Apr 15, 2008
The Sapphire Beach Condominium Resort has a perfect locaton on the beach. All of the privatly owned Condominiums have ... seaview. For dining you have to go to Red Hook harbour (half a mile away) per Taxi 4 US per person, or go with the ferry to Saint John - that's perfect for sunset, food and party. The Resort itself is 35 years old. The wood seems antik but all the palmtrees look very healthy and naturaly.

Great location, poor facility
Linda Mar 19, 2008
Beach was lovely, view was lovely, location (5 minutes from the Red Hook ferry to St. John's) was great -- but the property ... was very poorly maintained: room safe was broken, cold water handle in the shower was coming off, one lamp and one bathroom light didn't work, etc. Staff was not very responsive; for example, it took 36 hours and repeated requests to get a working lamp, and four hours to get clean towels after we asked for them (our room wasn't ever serviced before 4 pm). The free cocktail party consisted of a pitcher of rum punch and three platters of dip & chip. Free continental breakfast was served at tables that had not been wiped off in a day or more.

Great Vacation
Tammy Mar 18, 2008
This was a great location, great room and staff. The only complaint would be that there was not much to offer in the way of ... dining at this location. It has a lot to offer just seems that it needs some TLC from a management perspective. We loved it and will look to possibly buy a condo at Sappharie now. It was great!

Thank heavens for the beach and great snorkeling!
TK May 19, 2007
The only great thing about Sapphire Beach Condominium Resort is the snorkeling - along with colorful fish, we saw turtles and ... stingrays. The hotel itself was not in the best condition -lobby bathroom was dimly lit and toilet overflowing. Our marina front room was not clean - pubic hair found in the tub, sheets smelled musty and partition doors were fallen off the hinges. Overall staff seemed miserable and were not friendly except for the crew dealing with the non-motorized water equipment/beach chairs - they were so helpful. Swimming pool looked nice but the restroom and bar facilities were boarded up. The food was another limited amenity but we did enjoy the burgers grilled on the beach. Though I would not recommend staying here, you might want to stop in for snorkeling.

I recommend renting a car if you want to venture out on the island. Taxi rides were generally $10 per person one way. If you must stay at this hotel, hang out in Red Hook - Duffy's Love Shack has great drinks and try the marina bar across the street above the sushi restaurant - they make great pizza.
