Just one block up is Tee-Off, a steakhouse so retro that you will find yourself searching for the Brat Pack. It is pricey but fabulous.

Terrible Hotel
SB Native Oct 17, 2009
I am a SB native, moved away only recently. I returned on business and booked 4 nights here. My wife had worked for hte ... hotel chain before and knew they were not the most honest folk. Knowing this, could it really be that bad? It was worse. The floor in my room was tacky and visibly dirty. In places where the carpet was not exposed it was green. Where it had foot traffic it was brown. The comforter was stained as well. It was nasty.

Santa Barbara Bargain
Moi Sep 11, 2009
This hotel is clean and quiet. The pool and fitness center are both small, but they suffice. The location worked well for ... us. Travel southeast just a few minutes to the lively part of State Street. Going north quickly leads to Highway 101 with easy access north to the airport or south to downtown.

This is a good State Street location. It's away from the hustle and bustle of the downtown State St. tourist area, but ... definitely has some great restaurants and shopping in the area. VERY close to Mission Santa Barbara also.

Hope Aug 4, 2009
Located on upper State Street, the Sandpiper Lodge has a less glamorous location than the beach hotels but is very convenient ... by car to all the attractions of Santa Barbara. Santa Barbara is like a good theater-- there are no bad seats! Shops, restaurants, a supermarket, and a compounding pharmacy are all in easy walking distance. We selected the lodge because we needed a room with two beds on a week's notice. The beach locations I checked had nothing available. The Sandpiper Lodge is basically an ordinary motel, but a good value and exactly what we needed. No regrets.

I WILL DEFINITELY GO BACK
swtee Aug 3, 2009
Driving with kids is always eventful,so upon arriving I was a bit irritated, but as I entered the lobby I was greeted by a ... very pleasant girl that informed me that I had been upgraded to a two bedroom at no extra charge since I had three kids with me.She checked me in right away(probably took two minutes)I asked her how to get somewhwere and she gave me a map of places to go.She then informed me that there would be breakfast served there by the lobby in the morning. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. The majority of times that I have walked into a hotel room, there's usually 'a little smell',but this room was totally fresh. We first went to the pool which was just a little small from what I expected- but acceptable. It was clean and well-kept.The breakfast was ok,it was continental, but I had already been told it would be.If I really had to note anything negative I guess it would have to be that the refrigerator was just a bit noisy off and on,as if there was something loose that rattled at times from the back. But we will surely be back again!

None Aug 2, 2009
The breakfast selection included pastries, coffee or tea, milk, cereal, and artificial orange juice. Very poor nutrition -- ... we ate out. When we got back in the evening, there wasn't any parking in the lot, we were in the end unit and had to park all the way out by the street. I will not stay there again.

Dont book in hot weather!
Steve Jun 30, 2009
Hotel staff was friendly and helpful at checkin, but the room was awful. Very old hotel. Our "family suite" was two rooms ... connected by a door. Only one bathroom. NO A/C IN THE 2nd ROOM! Dont misunderstand, it wasn't malfunctioning - there was no A/C unit in that room. It was a very warm, uncomfortable night.

You've got to check out Brophy Bros. Clam Bar and Restaurant on the Pier (Harbor Way). This place is really happening! Great food, Great Location/View, Great Staff, Great Cocktails. Another great choice is Beachside Bar and Cafe on Sandspit road. We did find however that the bar seating can get a bit hot. For breakfast it's Cody's Restaurant!
