Sandman Suites in Vancouver

Pool was quite dirty. There were some obnoxious and loud guests at the hotel who were eventually asked to leave, but it made ... for a long night. The staff however was very polite and professional. Very good service in the restaurant as well. Nice sauna room.

The hotel was good for a one night stop over, the only small problem was the sofa bed was too small even for 2 young ... children, but would cope for one night apart from that the hotel was in a good location and within a 20minute walk of the Gastown area which is a must.

The Pride of Vancouver Needs More!
SFAdMan Aug 9, 2009
Attended Vancouver Pride Festival and the Sandman Suites location is a perfect/excellent centralized location for attendance, ... especially if walking to events or sites. The accomodations at the Sandman Suites are nicely appointed but the climate control in hot weather is faulty. Installing AC upgrades in the room as well as double pane window glass for coolness retention and street noise reduction would be advisable. The elevators are extremely slow to call, hot and unventilated. As a first time customer, I recommend booking lower floors and taking the stairs to spend your time more efficiently!

small and average, but great kitchens
Natasha Jul 26, 2009
The staff were very helpful and friendly. The rooms were small. Queen bed barely fit in queen room. Bathroom just barely ... big enough to open the door. The shower head had almost ZERO pressure. Sound from the city is very loud - very little noise dampening through the walls or windows. Nice location, and it was nice to have in/out parking privileges (for a fee). We didn't need the kitchen, but if we were going to Vancouver again and needed one, we'd stay at Sandman again - but choose a bigger room. Stove, large fridge, lots of cabinets - you could avoid eating out as much as you want on a longer trip.

Only if you're desperate !!!
Hammo Jun 30, 2009
We upgraded to a "city view" room which cost us extra $ and our aspect was out towards Denman Street and Stanley Park (we ... couldn't see the park at all). We were told that anything above the 9th floor was considered a "city view" room, even if you weren't facing the city. What a rip off !!!! We had a one bedroom suite that was apparently for 4 people, however it only had towels for 2 people. We asked for some more towels and normal, non-decafinated coffee and decafinated coffee was bought to us; when we had stressed this point. There was absolutely no room to open the chest of draws. There was 20cm between the end of the bed and the chest of draws and I have a nice bruise on my hip from constantly hitting it. This hotel was so bad and we have travelled extensively .... absolutely the worst in Vancouver for us and we have probably stayed at 10 different places across the city.

On Denman Street there is a fantastic Japanese restaurant called Tanpopo .... you must book.

A Great Spot in Vancouver
Jason Jun 15, 2009
The location is excellent. It's right in the middle of a hip, alternative, charming neighborhood with lots of cool, little ... shops and places to eat. There are also nightlife spots (and parents should be advised there are some adult entertainment places right nearby, but they aren't particulary obtrusive--my kids never noticed them, especially since they aren't visible if you enter/exit the hotel through the parking garage). The staff at the hotel were all very friendly. The elevators were a little slow (one was out of order), but that is hardly a complaint. Overall, this place really rocked! It's a fun place at a great price. We stayed on the sea-view side of the hotel, and the view was amazing! Just looking out the balcony was a highlight of the trip. The hotel is just a few blocks from the beautiful English Bay and splendors of Stanley Park.

Great Location
Jim Aug 12, 2008
We stayed three nights at the hotel. If you don't mind walking, you can walk all over the city from China town, old town and ... Stanley Park all about one mile away. We stayed in the Penthouse on the top floor because we wanted the jacuzzi which was nice after walking around town, just remember that the penthouse is a studio room and doesn't have a seperate bedroom. Plenty of food choices and many great bakeries on the same block. A good hotel for the price and location. I would stay there again.

Edward Aug 6, 2008
With two televisions, a dishwasher and an ensuite European-style washer/dryer, it was better equiped than my place. There is ... a sofa-bed so the room is good for families. Excellent staff who immediately responded to a key card problem and had no problems with a one hour check-out delay request. Room was very clean, all well maintained and with great views from the balcony. There even free internet access in the room. 10 units per floor, so if you can, ask for a corner room; with more windows, more light. One drawback was the bedroom was a bit small. Very narrow space between the bed and the dresser. Not good for the physically challenged. I will stay at the Sandman Suites on Davie the next time I'm in Vancouver.

Convenient location and stay
Gary Jun 16, 2008
The Sandman was conveniently located (somewhat like being in NY City). Outside of the hotel is a coffee shop, bakery and ... fruit and vegetable market with sidewalk stands. You can walk to any desired ethnic food restaurant, as the street is lined with casual dining. The room has a very well kept, fully equipped kitchen and a comfortable bed with living room pull-out couched, which did not induce any complaints from our 16 year old son. In fact the Greek restaurant right next door had a motley standing queue waiting for dinner. Robson St. is a $5 cab ride away, or you can walk through nice shopping/business neighborhoods. The Sandman's personnel is accommodating. We even stored our luggage for the day while we enjoyed the city until our evening flight.

Rhonda May 22, 2008
The room was horrible, the carpet was absolutely filthy and had numerous burn marks. I did not have a wahser/dryer as stated ... in amenities. Room is very small, I had to get into the bathtub to be able to close the door to use the tiolet. Area was Ok. I would not recommend this hotel to ANYONE!

Only one problem if you want to go on the rocky mountain railway you are not picked up at this hotel, but the pick up is two blocks down, dropped off afterwards outside hotel. Great location for the Vancouver tour bus and buses into town.Close to Robson street, great greek restaurant 3/4 mins away.
