The River Street Inn is a great Savannah experience with a distinctive sense of style that we want to share with you. The central Atrium, with 5 floors wrapped around it, is the backdrop for antique and reproduction furnishings, evoking the subtle sophistication of Savannah. The Inn has been preserved with the feeling of yesteryear but with all the modrn conveniences. Experience Charming Riverfront Hospitality.
The romantic ambiance of Savannah and the Antebellum South is found in the Inn's theme and decor, from hardwood floors and four-poster beds, to plush carpeting and private balconies. All 86 guest rooms are well appointed, offering views of the Savannah River to the North and Savannah's Historic District to the South.
Guests can enjoy walking onto the French-style balconies to watch the huge ocean freighters pass, or watch the night sky through floor-length windows. There are period furnishings and guests may choose from smoking or non-smoking rooms. ADA accessible.
Perched above the Savannah River on the bluff overlooking Savannah's popular River Street, the Inn's past is intertwined with that of its historic surroundings - which shaped its design. From the building's humble beginnings in 1817, adjuacent to the Cotton Exchange, the structure was used for the storing, grading and exporting of the city's main export of the age - Cotton.
The original two floors were built of ballast stones in 1817. In 1854 came the addition of the final three floors to accomodate the prosperous cotton industry. Alleys, walks and bridges gave traders access to all floors from the bluff to move cotton bales. Known as "Factor's Walk," after the professionals who graded the cotton, these alleys and the riverside street of ballast stone add to the Inn's character. These stones were brought in as ballast in the numerous ships that traveled from Europe and unloaded to make room for valuable cotton.
The surrounding buildings have a renewed life as shops, restaurants, and traverns, each w

We went to Savannah to enjoy a weekend get-away, and the River Street Inn was absolutely perfect. We stayed in one of the ... Inn's river view rooms, which put us right over all of the happenings on River street. We enjoyed fireworks from our hotel room balcony. The rooms were quaint, and we were able to enjoy the town without even leaving our room. I would definitely recommend this to anyone visiting Savannah.

Two sisters enjoyed relaxing and partying here. Staying on the River is the way to go. Cab ride from airport expensive, but ... that's to anywhere in the historic district. The hotel provides small surprises that were really thoughtful. Security was good. Not sure if there is a pool but I don't think so.

My reason for traveling to Savannah was a friend's wedding. I could only stay one night and I wanted to have both a good ... location (near the actual wedding site, which was in one of the city's beautiful squares) and a hotel with a unique atmosphere. The River Street Inn was perfect in both regards. I would definitely stay there again and would highly recommend it for those wishing something with historical atmosphere (was a cotton warehouse), great location (on the river) and within walking distance to restaurants, shopping and beautiful historical Savannah.

We spent plenty of time on River Street and could do so easily because it was just downstairs from our room! Two very good ... restaurants were within elevator or stairs away. We've been to Savannah about 5 times and this was the first time at River St. Inn. Would stay here again and again. Rooms were like early Savannah, but modern. Ex: hardwood floors, antique furnishings, yet HD TV!! Beware that the noise level is on until around 2am because you are on River St. You'll be fine if you realize that. It's not so bad you can't fall asleep, but you do notice when it stops.

Friday afternoon once we were settled in the room my girlfriend and i went to lunch, then a TON of shopping, dinner, and the ... best part of the trip...the Nightlife. Music up and down the river, including trumpets, saxophones, quitars, singers, and even 2 guys breakdancing. Drinks were a little pricey if you went away from the beer. Saturday we woke up and continued shopping, lunch, more shopping, then a romantic dinner at isaac's rooftop dining, and finally i asked her to marry me on the river! All in all a great trip definitely going back next year!

The River Street Inn is a great hotel for people who like to be around a fun atmosphere. There is music, entertainers ... throughout the day and especially nighttime. Restaraunts galore that will satisfy even the pickiest people. Going off river street and through the historic area downtown offers a wide variety of sightseeing (take the trolley to really enjoy) and dont forget to eat at Paula Deens. A great trip, cant wait to return to see and so more.

Take the free DOT transport bus, for a short 30 minute ride through the city just to see what is available. Then hop on the oglethorp at $15.00 is a great way to get on and off for the day. Dont forget to take a carriage ride at night for a mere 40 per couple ah so romantic and beautiful. Dining is so much cheaper off the river so mark your restaraunts when you see them in the city, its just a short walk. Have fun.

I Miss Texas! Oct 19, 2009
My fiance and I visited the Savannah area to take care of some wedding planning details. We were at first unsure of the River ... Street Inn because of its close proximity to the entertainment area of River Street, but we were so pleasantly surprised with all the Inn had to offer. We arrived at the Inn well before the normal check in time of 4:00PM (We arrived at 12:00) but the hotel was more than able to accomodate us and get us into a room. The staff we encountered were all more than friendly and willing to assist with our bags, locating an iron for the room and plenty of information about the Savannah area. We were very pleased with the room and the hotel overall and will stay again when our wedding takes place in March, as well as recommending the hotel to others.
Traveler type: Couples
Although the hotel was relatively quiet, it is very near in proximity to the entertainment district of River Street, so be prepared for some late evening noise. If possible, request to stay on the east end of the hotel - You'll find it's more quiet.

savannah visitor Sep 14, 2009
This hotel was great! From the moment you walk in you realize its a unique place, and not just another hotel. The staff was ... very accomidating, they let us check in 3 hours early, and answered all questions we had. The rooms are good sized and comfortable. The hotel had a complamentary wine and hors d'oeuvres gathering from 4:30 untill 6. We chatted with some other folks and had a nice time. This location on river street is wonderful. It is right in the middle of all the fun that is river street! The only negatives, and they are small ones, are kind of small pillows on the otherwise comfortable bed, and low pressure from the shower head. We are already planning a return trip to this hotel, and I will not bother looking for another hotel in Savannah.

Avoid the Bayou Cafe across the street. The waitress never approached our table and the bartender had to take our order. The food was not good. I had the blacked fish (overcooked) with vegetables (mushy) and rice (undercooked). The bartender did not charge me for the meal, but it was our last evening in Savannah and we were looking forward to a good experience.
