Great weather, great location, food okay
Wrigley Feb 2, 2010
Great location on the beach. Walking distance to town. Easy to get cabs to and from town. The weather was perfect during ... this time. Very clean resort and beach. We had issues with our first room (screaming baby all night) and the front desk quickly moved us to a comparable room. Entertainment was provided every night, but was average (would have been better if they weren't lip syncing). Huge selection of food, but quality was average. Drinks were good and plentiful. The fitness center has a great view of the beach, but equipment needs updated. We looked around the RIU Santa Fe next door (if you stay at the Palace you can also eat and drink at the Santa Fe, but Santa Fe stayers can't go to the Palace). The RIU Santa Fe was also very nice and newer. Same food and drinks. The Santa Fe was busier, but could save you a little money.

We were very happy with the service and friendly staff at this hotel. We were able to visit the Arch on a glass bottom boat ... ride and then taken to town for some shopping. We went zip lining and whale watching this past week as well. The most enjoyable part was the late afternoon just sitting on the patio enjoying a cocktail and watching the sunset!

Rested, relaxed, sunbathed. The hotel was beautiful. The shuttle drivers were very gracious and got us that long way in short ... order. The staff were excellent. The food was wonderful. The drinks were very good. The pool guys were way too noisy. The handicap bathrooms were not done well. They need a handicapped person to direct where they put the bars on the walls. It was very difficult for me. I had to call for help two different times. That shouldn't be necessary. The pool water was cold. They should have hot tubs at the pools.

We had a wonderful time went Whale watching and it was magical. Tours are about half the cost if you book at the marina ... rather than the hotel. Go with the fast boats they can get to the whales faster and closer than the catamarans

What a fantastic place!
Kevin Jan 13, 2010
I will say this is a wonderful Hotel to visit and I'd come back again in a heartbeat. For the reviews on here that complain ... about food or service....I couldn't disagree more. The food was wonderful, the specialty restaurants were nice, and overall the entire experience was great. If I had to pick a downfall of the week, it would most likely be the shows. Though the dancers are very talented, the lip syncing got a bit old. If they could stick with more traditional entertainment...it might be better. If you are looking for a great place to relax, enjoy great food and be waited on by a staff that is excellent...pick this hotel!

gagan Jan 11, 2010
the hotel staff was great minus the guys at check in. the staff is very attentive and always willing to help. the ... servers/waiters were very polite and so nice especially [...] i had to basically pay a bribe "tip" to get a hotel restaurant reservation to the girl by the check-in counter. it seemed as there were no reservation and as soon as i pulled out a 5 dollar bill one opened up. geez..but definitely gotta say the food was so delicious at Krystal, and the Mexicana San Jose restaurants. also the service at the specialty restaurants was outstanding. the buffet restaurant down stairs called el medano was very delicious for breakfast. i was definitely impressed by the quality of the food for an all inclusive resort. the one thing i didn't like about the hotel was that it didn't have a first aid kit. my wife couldn't sleep because of irritation from mosquito bites so I explained the situation to the guys at the front desk and all he said was sorry we don't have anything. i had to yell just to get a cotton swab and peroxide in the middle of the night. i tipped about 150 bucks in 5 days because the staff just plain out deserved it. i even tipped the old grandma lady cleaning the stairs because she always smiled and greeted us politely. the rooms were stocked with drinks everyday. they were also cleaned twice a day. i was totally impressed. my wife and i got two massages which were definitely worth the money. i can honestly say they were better than the RITZ in Miami. overall it was definitely worth the money. the only thing i didn't like was that i heard DREAM resorts treated their honeymooners with special care. The RIU did nothing different at all. I told them i was there for my honeymoon numerous times and it seemed as they didn't care lol.

Unless you like Mould...
ltuplin Jan 6, 2010
We chaecked in at around 5:30 and within a few minutes realized that there was a strong smell of mould in the room. I am ... allergic to mould so went to the desk to get a different room. 7 Hours later we relocated to a room in the Riu Santa Fe - a standard room not a junior suite I had paid to upgrade to. Have been unable to get credit for the difference. Pool was unheated, swim up bar closed... don't go there!

Pleasant Stay at the Riu Palace
Jill Jan 6, 2010
We did not like our room. It had a musty smell that lingered our entire stay. The room always seemed humid and moist even ... with the air conditioning running. It could be that we were at ground level. However, our friends next door did not experienece the same. You can hear your neighbors in the bathrooms and if your above neighbors are wearing heels you can hear that too. I recommend staying on the top floor if you can request that, plus better views :) The service is extremely friendly! The location of this hotel is perfect! You will be disappointed if you stay at the Riu Santa Fe next door. The Riu palace is entirely way better!

The food at Krystal restaurant is the best on the resort. Take the $10 water taxi to Lover's Beach. It's a must! For $10 we experienced our own personal whale watch and tour of the famous arch. They drop you off right at Lover's Beach and will pick you up at whatever time you request. They will also drop you off at the marina or The office if you choose not to return back to the hotel. The Office has great margaritias and unbelievable fish tacos! For authentic mexican, head to town and visit Mi Casa! Delicious and the margaritas are huge!

The Merry Millers Jan 5, 2010
The hotel was beautiful, the staff was helpful and friendly- our only issue were food related. While on vacation you had to ... make reservations at the specialty restaurants at 7 AM!! At the Mexican restaurant we were asked to leave at 8:00 so they could get ready for the next seating. The next seating consisted of 17 people. The first night we were there we could only eat at the buffet. None of the Specailty restaurants had reservations available even though there were empty tables

Great trip for our honeymoon/1st anniversary. Breakfast/Lunch food was pretty good. Dinner Reservation food was very good. ... Resort had options for all ages and interests. I recommend this resort to anyone.Make sure you reserve the shuttle from airport to hotel. Also, when you enter the shuttle service room dont be lured in to the timeshare sales reps. Talk to the people standing in the middle of the room to point you to the [...]Grayline shuttle service.

If you decide to go deep sea fishing it is a blast and your sure to get a good catch! Something I learned after my outing was that if you keep your Fish and pay the small fee to have it cleaned in the marina there are several food joints along the marina that will cook your catch in a varity of ways for around ten bucks! wish i knew this before I gave it to the boat crew!

We walked into Cabo one morning. We walked along the ocean...it was about a 40 minute walk. To cool off we jumped in the ocean along the way. It was a beautiful walk and we got to see other resorts and talk to some of the locals along the way. I would recommend this walk to anyone. You enter the town via the marina. It was a great way to see more sights!

While the beach is beautiful, the sand is a little coarse, and can be hard on your feet. You may consider your footwear when choosing to walk to a restaurant or to the Marina. A day-time walk can also get a little warm, so bring water!
