Riu Palace - Nice Vacation
Lovin' Cabo Nov 16, 2009
The Riu Palace was really nice. The rooms were very clean and the view was wonderful (we had an ocean view room). The ... employees and service staff were all VERY nice and eager to help all the time. I would rate the hotel as a four star. Sometimes you read it is a 4.5 or 5 star, but this is not the case. The food was just ok. We found that the busier the hotel, the better the food. I found there weren't many healthy choices to be honest. I was CRAVING a healthy crunchy salad by the time I got home - that's for sure. All in all we would recommend the Riu Palace, but you may want to look at going into Cabo for a couple of meals. In terms of the restaurants at the resort - The Steakhouse had by far the best meal of steak and lobster.

We walked into Cabo one morning. We walked along the ocean...it was about a 40 minute walk. To cool off we jumped in the ocean along the way. It was a beautiful walk and we got to see other resorts and talk to some of the locals along the way. I would recommend this walk to anyone. You enter the town via the marina. It was a great way to see more sights!

While the beach is beautiful, the sand is a little coarse, and can be hard on your feet. You may consider your footwear when choosing to walk to a restaurant or to the Marina. A day-time walk can also get a little warm, so bring water!

Excellent Hotel

Before we went to Cabo I went over many reviews trying to pick the best hotel and came across many conflicting reviews. This ... review is written from a late 20's couple's perspective: Hotel was amazing. First off we got a great deal on the package. This hotel is all-inclusive, which I cannot even begin to imagine how much money that saved us. Liquor was very good and bartenders were very friendly. Food was also surprisingly good. They have a fusion restaurant called Krystal that is was such a nice experience we went twice. During the end of our trip we decided to go downtown to eat at a local restaurant. $85 later we figured out we had been eating better at the hotel for the vast majority of the week. Our room was beautiful with a full ocean view. It was kept very clean and had a great AC unit. Bathrooms were very nice with granite and double sinks. Value: absolutely worth every dime. Great quality and saved me an unbelievable amount of money. Hotel: Great architecture and fantastic staff that do everything they can to help you. Food: They have great restaurants (Krystal) and some okay ones (Japanese). Main place for b-fast had amazing spread and they barbecued at the pool for lunch most days with fresh fruit. (also had main restaurant but poolside was nice) Location: About 1-2 miles from downtown which is much closer than most hotels we looked at. $10 cab 8peso bus. Downsides: Strong current so be very careful going into ocean. Overall: This is an amazing hotel that is worth every penny. Would go back in an instant. Do not be anxious about going with this hotel, you will love it!

Our experience at the RIU Palace was perfect!!! We've been to other all-inclusive resorts like Sandals, but this was better! ... Great Value, Great Location, and Great Staff. Go to town for various dining options. The food at the hotel is fine, however, the restaurants in town are better. Check out "The Office" or "Casa Country" just to name a few. Taxi fare is only $10 total each way. We loved hanging pool-side during the day and watching the evening shows after dinner. The entertainment staff did a great job and all were very fun to hang around with. Most hotel entertainment is quite lame, but the staff at the RIU Palace was terrific! In all, we were blown away by how nice the hotel was, how great the staff treated us, and how terrific the vacation turned out. I would go back in a heartbeat!

Weather was bad (rainy & Tropical Storm). With all the tile and granite, it was very slippery. Saw several people fall. ... Was told 2 nights in a row that we could not use our reservations for the outside restaurant (steakhouse) because of the weather when it was not raining. Should leave that up to individuals to decide. Need another club that opens earlier than 11pm as each night seemed to get shorter and shorter.

Good Value Vacation
Gimpyone Oct 27, 2009
The Rui Palace has something for everyone. The food overall was good to excellent, except one of the restaurants (The ... Steakhouse) was closed for 2 of the nights we were there & when it was open, you had to make reservations in advance. After making reservations for what we anticipated would be a supurb dinner, we were very disappointed. Very limited choices for both the entrees & the dessert and both were mediocre at best. Service was very slow as well. We both felt the main restaurant had the best food selections, as well as supurb service! The staff there were extremely friendly & bent over backwards to make sure everyone was happy! The room we booked was to be an oceanview Jr. Suite & they tried to put us in a ground floor unit that although it faced the ocean, it sat so far back that you couldn't see beyond the vegetation & pool. Fortunately they were able to move us to another room that was higher up, but it only overlooked the pool area unless you were on the balcony, and then you could see the ocean. Despite this, we both felt the resort is a good value for a vacation. The food and drinks were all inclusive & both were always available! The bar in our room was always well stocked with premium liquor. All of the swimming pools were beautiful & very well maintained. The poolside bars were staffed with terrific bartenders as well! Very entertaining!

The hotel was wonderful. It was the first all-inclusive vacation stay I have taken and I am hooked. The staff was extremely ... friendly and easy to work with. The food was exceptional and there was always a huge selection to chose from. The rooms were clean and anything I needed or wanted was provided asap, no question asked. It was a very family friendly environment & although I didn't travel with kids, I saw many families while at the resort. The location doesn't get any better and there were more activities available to chose from than you could do in a week. I went with friends who got married at the resort. The wedding was fabulous and we had the best steak I have ever eaten at the wedding dinner. I would book a wedding package at this resort in a heartbeat! I was not at all ready to come home at the end of my week!

We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at the Riu Palace. It is truly a Palace. Well kept, with plenty of staff. The mini-bar ... in the room was WELL stocked EVERY day with alcohol and drink mixers, as well as the required LARGE bottles of water for the morning! We went the first week of October and found it to be not overly busy, easy to get spots by the pool and eating areas. As for the oft mentioned required 7am dinner reservations for the specialty restaurants... we found that most allowed a two night before reservation system (ie. you couldn't reserve for tomorrow - but you could for the NEXT night). The Steakhouse was the most popular, as it seemed to be the only one available to the morning reservations. We had been to Cancun a few times - and honestly did not have super high expectations for either the local of Cabo, or the resorts there. We were VERY impressed on both fronts. We will definitely be back to Cabo and definitely back to the Riu Palace. Also, we briefly walked next door to the Riu Santa Fe and found it similarly comfortable and clean. (ps. Your palace wristband is valid at the Santa Fe, drinks, pool, etc. - BUT** if you have a Santa Fe wristband it IS NOT valid at the Palace) Just like all other areas of Mexico everything outside of the hotel is NEGOTIABLE (including tours you book in the hotel lobby :)

--Cabo rookie., Los Angeles Oct 6, 2009
Don't bother getting the Grayline shuttle. You can get a taxi easily. Also, I never felt comfortable that Grayline was going to be on time. Also, after you get your luggage and clear Customs, there are a couple rooms swarming with people trying to get you to attend a time share promotion. They will tell you your shuttle has been delayed and try to rope you in. Instead, get your stuff and immediately go outside where you will find the shuttles and taxis. The shuttles and taxis are NOT inside the building.
