Just OK
Aruba Traveler Nov 14, 2009
We have been to Aruba 4 times in 3 yeas and this was the least enjoyable trip. The hotel looks really nice and is huge, but ... everywhere you went though it smelled liked smoke even though there were no smoking signs everywhere. When we got home we had to wash everything - even items we didn't wear. The room had a constant damp feeling and smelled musty and like smoke. The bed was the hardest and most uncomfortable that I have ever slept in - they surely cut corners here. This resort is ok for families trying to save money on meals or people who love to drink (cheap alcohol). Breakfast and lunch were ok - not bad for an all inclusive, we ate dinner out most nights. No premium alochol here - only local bear and liquor. The pool was really nice and big, however the resort felt very crowded so if you didnt reserve a spot at the pool before 8am (which by the way there were signs everywhere asking guests not to reserve spots) you were unable to find a chair or hut on the beach. We would definitely not stay here again.

Relaxing get away but very HOT
Julie Nov 10, 2009
The hotel was very nice as well as the service. The restaurants had a limited menu to choose from. The only draw back to ... this vacation was having to get up at 6:00 AM in order to have shaded spot on the beach or reserve a spot by the pool. My suggestion is to invest in some umbrellas for your customers wishing to sit on the beach. Limited number of umbrellas for the quantity of guests.

GREAT TIME
HickoryHills Nov 8, 2009
We had a great vacation, we did have a few problems with the room air-conditioning and room safe but maintenance came within ... minutes of calling to fix problem. Horseback riding from the mountain to the baby bridge and goldmine ruins was fabulous! Rented a 4 wheel drive and took off for the natural pool, not something you should do without a guide!!!, we almost got stuck trying to get back, difficult and very off road down the side of a mountain, beautiful though, but again should do with a guide, many guided tours available to this area, you should be prepared for a very bumpy ride. Baby beach was beautiful but, 30 sunblock was not enough becuase the clearness of the water reflected like a magnifying glass and we did get sunburnt. 50 to 80 is what the locals recommended after they saw how sunburned we were. Overall, the hotel was wonderful, never saw a bug the whole time, very very clean. The staff was very nice and helpful with everything. The locals were also very nice and would stop to assist you if they saw you looking at a road map wondering which way to turn. The butterfly farm is within walking distace of the hotel and the fee to go is good for the whole week, it gave us many different time for photo opportunities of the beatiful species of butterflies.

Great Relaxing Get-Away
Parents in need of a kid-free vacation Nov 6, 2009
We went with friends for a long weekend get-away. The resort had everything you could need for a beach vacation. Several of ... the reviews I read prior to the trip set up very realistic expectations. Made for a very easy, relaxing vacation. We only left the resort on two occasions - (1) for dinner at Madame Janettes (incredible food); (2) to watch some NFL games at Buster's Garage (tons of American beers). The food was fine - as good as can be expected at an all-inclusive. Huge buffet. Something for everyone. Rooms were nice. Gym okay - the treadmills never worked.

E Oct 13, 2009
Overall the waitress and bartender staff were great. However, we were disappointed that all of the treadmills were broken at ... the fitness center. In addition, we had to have the maintenance people switch out the remote controls three times before finding one that worked. That said, Lorene, the public relations manager was great and apologized, and then checked in everyday to make sure we had everything we needed.

overall experience was great however there were a few minor details that could use improvement. pool closed at 7 , i thought ... it would be great to be in pool later into the night especially with the great pool bar they had.The hotel was a little noisy because of echoes from the hallways (tile in halls, not carpet)you can easily hear talking from hallways.I thought the bed was uncomfortable, it was very very firm and the blanket was not very soft either, however the bed was huge.

even though the trip was all inclusive and the food and service on the resort were great, there was some really great dining that you can easily walk to and worth spending the money to try out.

First-Class, Worry-Free Vacation
EricAndLoriR Oct 5, 2009
From the moment we landed in Aruba, we were provided with first class service. On our shuttle to the RIU Palace hotel, the ... driver provided us with the ins-and-outs of the island regarding travel, markets and attractions. Once arriving at the hotel, we were quickly attended to and provided with a worry-free and relaxing 7 day stay. The all inclusive package was -definitely- worth it. We highly recommend the RIU vacation and plan on doing this again in the future.

Hotel was amazing....Staff very helpful and nice. The only complaint we have is there was no non-smoking rooms and our suite ... smelled like smoke. Breath-taking from the time you pull up to the resort! Seemed like the place was filled with ppl from New Jersey and Long ... Island. I Usually don't like buffets, but if you can't find something you enjoy on these ones, then you are simple insatiable. Top notch service. Krystal restaurant was great. Draw back was trying to get reservations at restaurants (9am-12noon is very limited). Spa was nice, but fitness center kinda shabby, and not so clean. Pool was perfect, from comfy lounge chairs to swim up bar to attentive service. Room was lovely, but beds really not so comfy. Take advantage of the casino and daily activities.. Good times!

Great Place to stay
ejss Sep 2, 2009
The food was very good at the two of the restaurants that we went too. The buffet was also very good, but sometimes an item ... that was on the lunch menu did not appear, and that was disappointing. Otherwise the bar and total staff and service was great. There was never a problem that they could not solve. The only low point was that there were not enough beach/pool umbrellas. People "hogged" them over the days and others had no chance of getting out of the sun. The second problem was not with the Riu but with the DePalm side trip that we took. Two of the Land Rovers used were not in great shape. The one I drove had very bad brakes that needed to be fix yesterday. We have decided that we will definitely take our next vacation at a Riu Hotel.

Honeymoon review
Mel Aug 20, 2009
Beautiful resort - very friendly and attentive staff. Delicious food - many options. Generous drinks. Though room was ... beautiful, it is quite simple. Also, the beds were quite hard and not the most 'lush'. Beach volleybal was a nice activity while there - also took advantage of excursions offered by De Palma tours, which you can book through a representative located in the hotel lobby. Snorkeling is a must. It's very windy and humid, so don't bother bringing the straightening iron. Weather was beautiful the entire time there - not a drop of rain. Wind (and the ocean) makes heat tolerable. Make sure you bring enough suncreen.

Honeymoon at Riu Aruba
NYChoneymooners Aug 18, 2009
We went to Riu Palace Aruba for our Honeymoon. Over all the Riu and staff were perfect. The all inclusive was fantastic and ... we enjoyed every resturant and buffet. It seemed like most couples were there on honeymoon and there were a few families there was well. My only compliants would be with the staff at the check-in. We were met with an unfriendly welcome. I was amazed when I asked for a King size bed the response from the staff was "is that what you requested?" . Apparently all rooms come with 2 Double beds and when you request a king they move the doubles together to make a king with a pillow top on it. I had to ask 3 times for the King bed. The rest of the staff was awesome, Freddy, Carlos and Jairo were the best pool side staff around and kept us well hydrated and feeling good all day.

In the hotel lobby there is a desk for De Palm tours but if you take a short walk up street or along the beach you can find tours alot cheaper. Also check out Bugalo pier bar and grill on the beach front for great drinks and the best sunset view.

We liked the Riu Palace. Enjoyed the food and the room was perfect. It was luxury in a budget for us. We enjoyed and would ... recommend it. Bugaloe's is a bar off the beach (not part of the hotel) that my husband enjoyed. Close to downtown and they helped us rent a jeep so we could off-road. Good staff, food, and location.

Walking around Aruba is very safe and wonderful. From the the RIU, I took the public bus which cost me $5.20 cents American for 4 riders. The bus is very safe and it is cheaper than getting a taxi.

To book the fine dinning inclusive restaurants you have to book with the lobby between 9am-11am. If you miss that window, you will be eating in the buffet for dinner (which isn't that bad). Make sure you stay at least 4 nights so you can try all the restaurants (steak house, japanese, italian, and french).
