My sister and I just spent a week at the Riu Hotel 11/7/09-11/14/09! It was fantastic! I had never heard of the ... hotel---booked it online. Wow, we had a ball! All the staff go out of their way to make sure you have a good time. The room was large and very nice. The refrigerator was stocked with beer, sodas and water and 4 different kinds of alcohol in the cabinet! The beach and pool are terrific with lots of lounge chairs and many bars for drinking! The water wasn't as clear as expected and had some seaweed at the end of the week....but a storm had been at sea previous to our trip. The food was fantastic! I would highly recommend this resort and hope to visit again one day!!!! Florida Girl

Almost the entire hotel is located outside or in an open air atmosphere (except the sports bar and the disco). So during very hot times during the day the only place to escape the heat without going in the water is in your room because they tended to open the windows of the sports bar during the day.

The bartenders were fantastic, usually filling drinks as soon as they were empty... sometimes sooner. Many of them would ... remember you from previous days and would show off their skills behind the bar. The rooms were all clean and neat. The food was so-so and late nite options were very limited.

I traveled with my husband and 4 children ages 10 through 18 years old. Hotel was very clean and beautiful, staff polite and ... accommodating. Salon was excellent and reasonably priced. Nightly entertainment was good. My teens loved the sports area with video games, pool tables and internet access. Hotel beds very hard and uncomfortable. Disappointed in lack of linens, we only had face cloths when requested and never had them at any other time otherwise and had to use hand towels in replacement. Food quality was fair at best. Pool was wonderful! Very disappointed with the beach, it looked very beautiful but the water was murky and slimy on the bottom. This beach was very unlike other Jamaican beaches I have been to in the past. The first day we arrived at the hotel and walked to the beach,(locals) approached my husband and I and also one of my teenage sons and asked us if we were interested in buying marajuana or crack. On another occasion my 10 yr old daughter and I were approached by a (local)on the beach that asked us to steal him some food. If you go onto the beach, be prepared to be harrassed! Snorkeling/parasailing excursions were great!

The hotel is about a 15 minute ride from the airport; however, the cab ride is $20.00. Overall, the hotel was great for the ... price. The food was horrible, but I guess that helped my bikini. I just don't like the fact that EVERYWHERE in Jamaica everyone is trying to make money off of you. I would never return to Jamaica nothing against the hotel.

This was my second time at the Riu Montego Bay. I think the hotel is great. Scuba Caribe is right on the beach to go ... snorkeling or diving. They have entertainment and music by the pool everyday. I won the arm wrestling contest! Great swim up bar. They have a jerk chicken shack on the beach. Usually it is just chicken, but other days there are ribs, pork chops, lamb chops and beef. That was very good. Booze 24 hours (brand name, like absolute, just have to ask for it) Nothing close enough to walk to, but a short cab ride to Margaritaville, the hip strip, and luminous lagoon (which was very cool). The food does get a little boring after a week, but is still edible and they have different theme nights. Jamaican night was the best! Try the Jamaican Sweet Potatoes! Would definitely stay again.

I enjoyed the beautiful pool and they did make good drinks, if u need stronger just ask. I had no problems with my room. It ... is a very large room, with a refrigerator that contains soda and water. There is also liquor in the room. I found staff to be EXTREMELY kind and helpful. I did think it was unfair that the restaurants fill up and u then have to eat at the buffet which can get old. I was told by someone that u can only eat at the restaurant one time, and there are only 3 then its buffet. I didn't stay a week so I am unsure if this is true. It is an extremely large hotel. I had no issue every finding a seat, there are plenty of seats at the beach and pool. Keep in mind everyone has a different perspective. Some will love it and some wont..

Read many reviews and was afraid of a bad experience. Not the way it was at all. The air conditioner was very cold, the ... pool was clean, no mosquitos, even though i did bring repellent. There were a couple of tiny black bugs, but your on a resort full of water and food, what do you expect. Drinks were a little watered. The food was not top quality but they have to deal with too many different tastes of the different patrons to do too much. The steak house was ok, the asian was barely middle of the road and the italian was even less so. But all in all the place was a great place to relax and just enjoy life. They could use better liquor since im sure i saw premium liquor in the ad.

My wife and I enjoyed our stay at the RIU Montego Bay most of the four trips and locations in Jamaica we have traveled to. ... The service was first-rate, facilities were the finest of any we had previously stayed. I would like to add that the e-mail updates regarding our travel by Orbitz kept us up to date on any flight delays or gate changes we encountered. I found this particular service to be invaluable.

RIU fulfilled all our expectations and more! The place was beautiful. The staff are friendly. The food variety was beyond ... expected and delicious. The jerk chicken on the beach was mouth watering. My daughter and I enjoyed the pool and the built in lounge chairs. The beach was nice too. But, it needed cleaning. Too many sea weeds were in the water. Plus, guests threw their plastic cups in the beach water, which was gross. Last, but, not least, the nightly entertainment was excellent. The entertainment crew is very talented. They keep the audience engaged and allow us to participate in the pre-shows. They provide top of the line entertainment each night. I will definitely be returning to RIU Montego Bay soon.

This resort is very large. The property is emaculately kept and well maintained. We stayed previously at Sandels Dunn's ... River in Ocho Rios for 3 times the cost and it was a dump. The food is average at the Riu. You definately will want to get reservations for their nicer restaurants. We were very satisfied over all with the Riu. Our only suggestion would be designating an adults only swimming pool.

Total Peace & Relaxation
Sarah Aug 20, 2009
Our trip was very relaxing and beautiful. The view of the ocean and laying by the beach was my favorite part. The water gets ... more blue/green through out the day which was really nice. Sailing and Paddle boating are included in your stay and it was very nice to go out on the boats. The bars are very conveniently placed on one the beach, one in the pool, and two by the stage. The bar tenders and staff were very nice and polite. Drinks were very generous! And we even had our own full bar in our room! The activities and games at the beach and pool side were funny and fun to interact with other people. Usually when we go away we are packed with events and things to do on the trip like water sports and entertainment but on this trip we found we didn't do anything but go to the beach and the pool which we were very satisfied with. The room was nice, new, spacious, 2 sinks made me happy, and very clean. The closet is a nice size as well. The room did have kind of a funky smell.. slightly mildew- but it really wasn't unbearable. You get used to less than a minuet. It's nice that everyone has a balcony. The problem with the gym was that it wasn't air conditioned. People were working out and seemed fine, but I couldn't imagine doing that. It was fine though becuase I just got to relax =) The thing we didn't love was the food. It didn't even matter much because it wasn't the most important thing. there was enough drinks and beautiful places to lounge out that we didn't worry too much about it. The day we checked in we made reservations with out a problem to all the restaurants (there are 3, make sure to make reservations the day you arrive otherwise its the grand buffet). The Chinese restaurant was the worst. Just didn't even seem like it was really Chinese food. The Italian restaurant was ok, I ordered Salmon which i normally love! but it just was rubbery and bad quality, totally under seasoned. My boyfriend got steak and I ended up eating the steak- was much better than the salmon but he didn't care for it much. The Steak House was the best dinner we had, I really recommend going there. The steaks are not as thick as we are used to, but everything was well seasoned unlike most of the food we had there. For lunch there was a Jerk Chicken BBQ on the beach which was very good also (not the best jerk I have had, but it was good). Besides the food which is doable, the trip was relaxing and beautiful. If you want to lay a nice beach or pool with a drink, then this is the place to go!

We found the Riu Montego Bay to be awesome! Everything from an efficient check-in ([...] had to rearrange rooms to get ... friends and us together) to check-out (quick and efficient) was a pleasure. All the staff we had contact with were friendly and helpful. Service was excellent and entertainment was great. We've stayed at other all-inclusives on other islands and this one ranks up at the top of our list. The only thing we wished were different was the ocean - it's not the clear blue Caribbean. No waves and the bottom is mushy with seaweed but we still loved the beach. We won't hesitate to stay at a Riu in the future.

The Hip Strip is a lively place to go with a mix of locals & tourist. The Bobsled Cafe is a quiet place to go & start the evening and take your pic in a bobsled. Then go across to Twisted Kilt. A very nice place with a nice view of the water from their patio. Margaritaville has alot to do during the day, but doesn't get hopping for nightlife until 11-12:00 and then it is really crowded with a small dance area. The live bands upstairs are nice to sit, have a few drinks & ENJOY.
