Stay away and go the palace instead
Phil Nov 20, 2009
It suppose to be all inclusive but they didn't bother restocking my mini fridge for three days even tho I asked them too each ... day. The phone in my room didn't work and they didn't bother to fix it for the 7 days I was there. They lost my laundry and didn't find it until 2 days later. I spent $120 on fake cuban cigars that they sold in the lobby, and that was after I asked the staff it they were real and they said yes. I hated the staff there. The only good thing was the cleaning lady who did a great job each morning.

RIU Macao
bell family Aug 25, 2009
Our original booking was RIU Bambu. They stated that they upgraded us to RIU Macao because Bambu was overbooked. This might ... have been a good thing except that we were given rooms in the back on the top floor. The air conditioning did not work, the phone was out and the TV reception was horrible without all channels. So, they acted like they were doing us a favor but we got the worst room. The reception desk was not very sympathetic and stated that he was doing the best he could. We requested to be put in Bambu or get a better room. They showed us another room that had the same problem with the air conditioning. We were finally given another set of rooms on the first floor with somewhat better air conditioning but not great. We didn't get settled in until 8:00p.m. losing our first day and being totally aggravated. We stayed at Macao because we didn't want to waste any more time trying to get a room the next day. The reception supervisor was apologetic but he blamed Coco Tours and Orbitz for our problems. We won't stay at RIU hotels any longer due to this experience. The Hotel itself was beautiful but we have stayed at more modern hotels prior to this that have given us very good rooms with huge beautiful pools and grounds with the same rating for same amount of money or less.

Went with a friend on a last minute vacation. we recently stayed in puerto plata, DR @ the riu Bachata. bc of this, we were ... all about comparing the two. *The beach is stunning- powdery white sand and crystal clear tourquois water. * staff did not particularly seem to go out of their way to help you (i.e. it rained a lot when we were there.... our room umbrella magically diassappeared. when we asked for a replacement we were told "probobly tomorrow youll get one..." ok... *make sure to get your butt up early to get beach/pool towels, they run out early. really? its a beach front hotel, why do you only have the bare minimum of towels? when i went to inquire about this to the front desk, they took their sweet time finding me a towel and seemed annoyed that i asked (i am NOT a pushy complainer by any means) * the food is edible......we lived on salad, pizza and french fries....no food after 10oclock, sucks for when youre starving after a night of drinking! *in order to eat at a "restaurant" (closed off area of the daily snack bar) make sure you get up to make your reservation between 7-10 am.....we chose to sleep, since we were on vacation *teeny tiny ants in the rooms * front desk called and woke us up at 8am on our second day there, to ask us about how we were getting to the airport....5 days later

great beach, good hotel, great service
sandro May 11, 2009
The beach is unbeatable, the hotel personnel friendly and very helpful. The room we got was a little noisy being on the only ... access of the hotel. The only problem we had was the presence of very large roaches (3) the very last day. Aside from that everything is on line with the price and everybody in the resort is working toward making you feel comfortable. This was our third stay in a Riu resort -mexico and DR-. Compared with other Riu resorts in mexico, the beach was deep enough so you could get your own spot all day long, and was kept spotless by the personnel. Overall great stay for a couple or a family.

Honeymoon at the Bambu
destination seeker May 6, 2009
Our trip was very good overall. The hitel was clean and much what I expected after being to DR several times. Food was ... decent and bar staff always had a drink waiting when they seen you coming....we do always tip them extra as they work long hours. Rooms were OK...clean but good enough for sleeping and getting ready. The beach was beautiful and always had plenty of lounge chairs to pick from. As far as fine dining goes, this hotel does not offer a lot of options.....but we were satisfied with the buffet and steakhouse. The zip-line tour is a must. Fun for all ages and worth the $80 US...crew was fun and busride gave you a true glimpse into how the people live. Only complaint would be against parents bringing children and not keeping an eue on them..especially in the pool bar area. We went during Easter break so families were expected..just wish parents would keep their kids under their own supervision!

Sunshine and Warmth
Sharon Dec 20, 2008
This hotel was very good for the price we paid. There were countless food options, the pool was clean and warm, the ... employees were friendly and responsive to requests and the beach was just perfect. Four Riu properties are linked and you can go between them which we liked very much. The only bad thing I can say about this property is that the pillows are terrible and the bed is hard. Blankets from the front desk solved both problems! We had a great time and will return!

Family friendly resort
Martin Mar 15, 2008
Very family oriented resort but there is a lot to do as a couple. We pretty much relaxed on the beach every day.We took some ... daily trips outside of the resort (the are OK but not as described in a booklet, I would think twice next time before booking another day trip if it is worth the money). Staff is very friendly and helpfull, large food selection every day, rooms are OK, outside upkeep is great, people work all the time there. Loved the resort, would go back anytime.

outstanding food
tim Dec 10, 2007
The RUI Bambu has great service and outstanding food. The room was more like a motel than a hotel with very uncomfortable ... beds. The only drawback is that is not advisable to check out the local areas outside the hotel unless you go on one of the many tours offered for a price. The casino was the most unprofessional one I have ever seen and we only stayed about 15 minutes. If you are going away for R & R this is the place for the price.
