It was a beautiful Hotel friendly people. The pool is amazing the room has its own mini bar with 4 bottles of alcohol. The ... things i did not likewas that ou have to give a $20 deposit for an iron. There are only 2 restaurants and the are only open until ten , so if u want a midnight snack you have to walk to another hotel. But overall even with the 2 restaurants they have the Buffet was amazingly good. the chefs can cook . Amazing food. Pool was amazing. More for family couples resort. But wonderful place I would stay again.

The Riu Bachata is a nice all-inclusive hotel. The common areas are nice and the grounds are immaculately maintained. The ... food was good for an all-inclusive. It is indicated that you can go to all three Riu resorts to eat, but that does not include dinner. If you would like to eat in the Italian or steakhouse restaurants you must make a reservation early in the morning on the day you plan to eat there. The steakhouse food was great and worth the reservation. The buffet was large and offered things like fish, chicken, pork, pizza, and salad which were all better than the last all-inclusive resort where I stayed. Sosua and Cabarete are about 25 and 40 minutes away, respectively. We spent a lot of money on cab rides! It was $50 to get to Sosua and $65 to get to Cabaret. We went on the zipline tour and that was a lot of fun. We took a 40 minute ride through the mountainside of Puert Plata and saw how many of the locals live. The zipline tour bus picked us up at our hotel and provided small snacks afterwards. If you have been wanting to try ziplining, this excursion is worth it! My husband and I also went snorkeling and scuba diving in Sosua and had a great time! North Coast Dive Center had very helpful and competent staff. The only drawbacks about this trip were distance, heat, and night time entertainment at the resort. If you plan on hanging out at the resort for most of your trip, this place is for you. It is a beautiful place, but I would describe it as more isolated than it appeared in its brochures. The Dominican is very humid. We are from Las Vegas and still sweated a lot!!! There is air conditioning in the rooms, but it doesn't work very well. The restaurants, buffet and bars are all outside or open to the outside, so it was always very warm. Finally, if you are into the nightlife and want to go to clubs this may not be your place. There were plenty of people hanging out at the bar having drinks at night, but I don't think that many people went to the club. The staff tries to entertain onstage at night, but it wasn't very good. They literally sang the "Hokey Pokey" song every night! Overall, I would say this is a very nice resort with friendly staff. If you want to hang out at an all-inclusive for most of your trip, it's great. If you are more interested in multiple excursions, interacting with the locals and partying at night, you might consider Cabarete or Sosua instead.

If you want to save money on cab rides, you can leave the hotel property and find a driver who will take you to your destination for less money. They aren't in cahoots with the hotel and charging the same rates as the cabs the hotel will call for you. You can negotiate with them too.

The staff are friendly, courteous and extremely diplomatic. Unfortunately, that's not always enough. Our stay was for five ... nights and we did not have Air Conditioning for even five minutes. When I was did my research prior to making our reservation I had read reviews stating this same this very same problem; I thought for sure the problem had been fixed. When it is 95F and humid it is almost impossible to dry off after a shower. Nights did not cool off much so even leaving the terrace door open and the fan on didn't help very much and we had an oceanfront view. Aside from no A/C everything else was perfect. The grounds are well maintained and it was nice being able to walk freely from one resort to another. If you want to eat in any of the a la carte restaurants, be sure to make your reservations early in the morning. The food was good and plenty to choose from. The drinks leave a lot to be desired. The weakest licquer I have ever had and I'm not a drinker.

While at this resort i spent most of my time reading by the Bar Pool. When too hot u may have a dip. if your thirsty the bar ... pool is available for alcoholic beverages and behind bar pool u have access to coffee and tea. Also the rest room is conveniently just about 25 to 50 feet away. The Food was average. The club had poor sound quality and they played the same music every night which was very annoying but atleast alcohol was free. The staff is friendly and the rooms were kept very clean thru out day which was great. 2 months prior to this resort i stayed at the Riu in Punta Cana and it was much better but pricey. If you enjoy the beach you will not like this location because it is very rocky with rough waves. But perfect if u like to boogey board, sail, or surf. Beach is windy but has tons of shade from trees all along sand which makes it a great place to read. I went solo and had a great time. Met many people. Very friendly environment. Be advised there is no iron in the room and the electrical outlets are not like that of the US. so bring an extension cord with same size prongs in order to charge ur electronics.

Air conditioning did not work, the three days that I was there, it was like a sauna, it seemed like it was controlled by ... staff, who by the way were very unpleasant. Some members of the enterntaining group were always trying to find someone who will get them drinks (I guess it is prohibited)and asking for money. Client services were incredibly rude; there were not towels nor soap in the room and it was dirty. When I asked for towels they told me that they did not have anymore until the next day. Both my friend and I got sick from eating the terrible food and the waiters were also very unpleasant. the best part were the bartenders they were very nice and attentive. Believe me this is the first time that I complain about a resort in the Dominican Republic and up to now they were all good, but this one deserves if any just one star.

Nice, friendly family resort
Mr Blue Aug 23, 2009
This is our first time at an all-inclusive resort and in DR. There were a lot of families at the resort and is obviously very ... kid friendly. This was not really an issue for us as we were placed in building #1 which is the farthest away from everything. We preferred this location b/c it was quiet and away from other guests. The food wasn't super but acceptable. The steak house required reservation that can only be made from 7am-10am. The steak house was about 2/3 full that night. The other night we ate at the buffet in the main dining hall and it was decent. There is a beach for only the resort guests, but many parts of the water were full of rocks so it wasn't really possible to spend much time in there. Although on the beach itself, it was nice and cool. The pool was pretty crowded, but we didn't have a problem finding a lounge chair. The bar was fast with drinks and we had no problems getting drinks all day. The on-site casino only opened from 8pm to 3am. There were 2 blackjack tables, 1 carribean stud poker, 1 hold'em poker table, 2 roulette tables, and the rest were slots. Except for our blackjack table and 1 roulette table, the rest of the casino was most empty for the 3 hrs we spent there. There are several on-site stores that sell misc. items such as sunscreen. Remember to bring whatever you need because sunscreen costs about 2-3x as much as NYC. Basically everything is overpriced. Taxi is extremely expensive, but there are no other options if you want to get off the resort. Although it is possible to spend all your time on the resort, sometimes you may want to wander off it for a bit. A round trip taxi ride to Ocean World is about $6 per person. It costs $10 / person to the hotel from the airport. The staff at the front desk speaks multiple languages so no problems there. Finally, it's not a 5 star resort. Although it's my first time at a resort, my friends have stayed at others and said it's probably a 3 star. Although for the money we paid, we were satisfied with the quality of the resort. Overall it was an enjoyable trip. We would consider visiting again except we'd rent a car w/ GPS instead of paying for taxis.

The place was situated in a perfect tropical region. It feels like your own niche. The 2 other sister hotels are along the ... side by no other, totally in paradise. Our room was an ocean view, which I recommend not only for the view, but for the sea breeze. Rooms were clean and the staff were nice and courteous. The food half the time were good selections. If I didn't care for the lunch, I ate double the dinner. Fruits, fruits, fruits... loved the mango, will miss the papaya juice every morning. If you water sport, be strong for the current pulls. Was fun and so many activities available @ the resort. Pools were full of people, but no night swimming. Beach was nice. Water seemed clean, until I saw some animals in the shade past the end of Mambo. Gym was a sauna (only had ceiling fans). Billiards was an option, since the casino was so tiny. Other than that, should have stayed @ the Riu in Punta Cana. p.s. International drinks my foot. For example, Smirnoff vodka only.

Beautiful location, great shows by the animation team. Took wonderful excursions to Paradise Island (Best snorkeling ever!) & ... the catamaran was awesome. The hotel was lovely & was spotlessly clean. The food was well done for a buffet. On the negative side, we had a couple of issues (empty mini bar & broken door to the patio) both of which required multiple calls to rectify since the standard answer seemed to be "We were told that was taken care of", most of the staff was friendly but some (I emphasize some)of the front desk help seemed a bit lacking in customer service.

I'd like to start by saying that I think traveler's reviews are so important when it comes to booking a trip so I want to ... make sure I convey what our trip was like! It was just me and my fiance that went for 8 days, 7 nights. The first day we got there it poured and we though, oh no.. but after that the weather was absolutely beautiful...dare I say too hot?? Make sure you bring sunblock, probably stronger than 30 because we still got a little burnt! The sun is very strong! Our room was very nice (703) it faced the pool and was centrally located which was very nice! The maids were great, a couple dollars now in then would get you far, although they never refilled our water, we always had to ask for it (don't drink the tap water in case you didn't know that!) The pool is absolutely gorgeous and by far the best one of the 3 hotels. Only bummer is having to walk around it to go get a drink if you sit somewhere not at the bar (no waitstaff...but hey who doesn't need the exercise!) Oddly enough there were TONS of sun chairs, the ones in the shade were the ones hard to come acrossed! The bars were nice, we checked out la discoteca a couple nights and it was alright, very night-cluby but fun if you'd had more than a couple drinks. The one bar is open 7p-7a and is by the entertainment and casino (don't go, no one ever wins there!!). The pool bar closed at 5pm, pool at 7pm and the other bar at 12am. You HAVE to ask for alcohol to be put in your drinks if you order like the banana mamas or something like that because they won't put it in unless you ask! They beer was good, we mainly drank that and it wasn't watered down, my hangover could tell you that! The entertainment was good, they really tried to get people involved and if you're willing you'd enjoy it. The food...ah the food. If you're not a picky eater (which were not at all) you might be ok. The breakfast and lunches were not very good and seriously was the same food e-v-e-r-y-d-a-y! I've never wanted real food so bad!! A lot of rice and a lot of blah pizza. They always had fresh fruit which was great. The dinners were usually pretty good at the buffet. Don't waste your time at the steakhouse. We went there to try it and it was not good, the buffet was better! The beach was also sub par I'd say. It was sooo rocky, when people say to bring water shoes, BELIEVE THEM! We barely spent any time there. And of course there are topless sunbathers so people with kids beware! The lighthouse by the beach was wonderful, very beautiful views. There's a nice little strip mall between hotels but watch out for the sales people they can be very pushy. We went to Cancun last November and I'd almost have to say I enjoyed it better. The Rui Bachata is VERY secluded, which is nice, until you've been there for 4 days and tried everything there. We booked COCO Tours transportation to and from the airport (DO THIS) and it was alright. The driving is CRAZY...I mean CRAZY!! We literally flew out of our seats into the front seats (bruising the heck out of my leg) but that seems to be how everyone there drives. I say to do it because the cabs there will charge you outragous amounts. It definately helps A LOT to know some Spanish (obviously) we knew enough to barely skate by but you can usually find someone that speaks English to help you.

We did the Ocean World Excursion. TOTALLY WORTH THE MONEY! It was a blast and they had a lot of shows that were great. I would definately recommend this to anyone, young or old! It's only a 10-15 minute bus ride, they take you there and pick you up. Catch the Sea Lion show...they're adorable!!

Make sure you bargin when shopping both in & out of the hotel area, there's a huge difference between the opening price vs. the sale price

Make friends with the people at the stores and they will give you decent deals. most of the stuff is way overpriced so haggle all you can. The pharmacy is extremely overpriced because they know you are at their mercy so come prepared.

Take a taxi into town - it cost only $20 dollars round trip. They will take you to all the shops in town which are much cheaper.

There's a lot of shops in the front of the Hotel but the best places to buy souvenirs is behind the rooms where the jet skis are. They are the locals who will give you better deals.

As long as your adventurous, make sure to see the waterfalls of damajagua. Take a taxi and do it yourself to save some money. It is a great adventure and you'll never forget it. Skip the zip-lining. While it's fun and exciting, it's overpriced, too far from the RIU's, and generally overhyped.
