It was like stepping back in time. Quiet and beautiful location. Good restaurant and even better bar with is own brewery. ... Only two draw backs -- no internet and the roosters start crowing at 2:30 in the morning - they must still be on east coast time. :)

Great place

The description of the Waimea Plantation Cottages on the Orbitz site was perfect. We wanted an individual, private cottage ... located in a complex with large grassy expanses and on the ocean with a sandy beach. We got it! The staff was always friendly and even upgraded our stay at no charge to an ocean view cottage. The vegetation is so lush that each cottage feels very private. There were NO glaring lights at night anywhere. We could see the stars as clearly as if we had been out in the middle of the ocean. The only sounds were the ocean waves, the wind in the palms, and in the mornings the warbling of the myna birds. We liked that we were close to the town of Waimea, but not in it, close to Salt Pond Park, and also not far from Port Allen, where we boarded our dinner cruise tour of the NaPili coast. Unfortunately, we both came down with horrible colds our 2nd night and didn't feel like doing much the whole week we were there... which turned out to be not a bad thing. Our King size bed was VERY comfortable and the bedroom was large and had a view to the ocean also. The bathroom was enormous. Loved the oversized shower and separate cast iron tub. Since returning, we have talked with 3 other couples that have stayed at the Cottages years earlier and also had fond memories of it. We toured the rest of the island but didn't find any other place we'd rather be.

Best meal I have had in my life was at the Mediterranean Gourmet, on the North shore, near the end of the road. I had the Walpoo local fresh white fish in a saphron sauce ---the most delicious fish ever.

Big Save and Ishihara Market. Great place to shop for your daily meals while you stay at the cottages. Also, Ishihara has ready-made local-style food - great for dining the local way. Also have marinated food meats and poultry for barbecuing during your cottage stay. Very nice, local small town feeling. Very relaxing.

Quiet relaxing retreat
Thomas Oct 21, 2008
These cottages are in a spacious plantation setting. It is not the place for people seeking the usual resort-hotel ... amenities. The beach is not suitable for swimming and the sand is black. The only restaurant on-site is a brew pub. On the other hand, the cottages are comfy with full kitchen facitities, and there lanais and hammocks in the trees for just lazing around. One needs a car here, to get to the place, to go shopping, and to visit Walmea Canyon and other beaches. There is cable TV and wireless internet (the latter on the porch of the main building).

Relaxing, private in local Hawaiian setting
Mila Sep 23, 2008
We were impressed with the cottage - the privacy, spaciousness of the home and the setting. Reminded me of my childhood days ... spending our summers with our grandparents, aunts and uncles in Makaweli. The cottage looked very similar to our grandparents but with the modern amenities which we could not live without. Very calm and relaxing and a great place to 'get away' and rest away from our normal busy life on the mainland. We enjoyed it so much and are thinking of returning next year - maybe for a planned family get-together.

Great Value and Family Friendly
Ying Apr 10, 2008
The location is out of the way, but great access to the Waimea Canyon. No internet available in the rooms was difficult to ... deal with for work reasons. But the surroundings and comfort of your own four walls is priceless. It is very family friendly with plenty of room for large groups. Great views, immaculate grounds. No jacuzzi only a pool, but a pool with an oceanside view. Limited food choices nearby. We had several salamanders in our room, but they were friendly and ate any other bugs, besides I hear that is the norm for Kauai. We had a blast and would definitely go back again!

Relaxation Get-a-way
Nicole Sep 6, 2007
The Plantation Cottages are AWESOME! I can't say enough good things about this place...and I am sometimes hard to please. I ... arrived on the island late and I had been informed that the front desk staff would be there until 10 p.m. I ended up arriving closer to 11 p.m. I thought how will I find this place in the dark? It was lit up beautifully with tiki torches. The sign on the door said to call security to check in and when I did he said he would be right there. I hung up the phone and the door opened! I got to my room and found a beautiful flower arrangement...my boyfriend worked with the front desk and they took care of everything. Awesome! They had bottled water and coffee in the room for me and a nice little collection of shampoo and bubble bath items. The ground of this place are breathtaking. I loved lounging in their hammocks on the property. The cleaning staff was only supposed to come once while I was here but they came twice and did a fantastic job. The Hartfelt Day Spa was EXCELLENT! You must try one of their massage packages...I have gone to spas all over the world and this place was the ultimate in relaxation. The Brewery was fabulous. I think I had the best lunch of my entire life with their pork sandwhich and homemade brew. FABULOUS. LOVE IT!!!!

This is very close to the Waimea Canyon which is a nice little piece of nature in your backyard and sits on a black sand beach. There is the Brewery on site and also a few restaurants close by. Make sure you stop at JO JO's clubhouse for a shave ice...best on the whole island.

Great Honeymoon
John Sep 4, 2007
The ResortQuest Waimea Plantation Cottages is a great place to stay if you want to do almost absolutely nothing. It was ... probably the most relaxing vacation I've had in years. And was just perfect for a honeymoon.
Traveler type: Couples
There are really only two dining establishments by the hotel, the Waimea Brewery at the hotel and a steak house in town. Both are very good and the plus of the brewery is you can walk back to your room. But both close around 9 pm.

Great Location away from the tourist crowd
Audrey May 26, 2007
The Waimea plantation cottages made our honeymoon a memorable and wonderful trip. The cottages are nice and private. They ... were incredibly clean and the sheets were especially nice --- great quality and thread count. The kitchen was stocked with pots and pans, dishes, etc. so we could make a few meals and save some money. The staff was really helpful and made great recommedations on the island. Take plenty of film as you'll want to take lots of pictures of the amazing banyan trees on the property... The hammocks on the beach were so relaxing and a favorite part of the trip. The beach isn't swimmable (neither is much of the island) but it was awesome for a morning walk or a stroll at night. Beautiful beaches were less than 10 minutes away. We loved Polihale, and Ke'e on the north shore, but the canyon near the cottages is a must see and truly comparable to the Grand Canyon. Overall, the place was comfortable. No air conditioning, which was a concern at first, until we realized we didn't need it. The cottages have plenty of windows and a fresh ocean breeze was wonderful. There were some nice restaurants nearby and a grocery store right down the street -- very convenient. We plan on coming back next year.

The Ka la Lau lookout was truly amazing. You go up to the canyon and continue on to Kokehe Park. Stop at the Kokehe lodge and have the portugese bean soup and sweet corn bread with passion fruit tea. Awesome. The Ka la lau lookout is about 7 mintues from the lodge and truly amazing. We took pictures that are frame-able.
