We Love The Maui Banyon
bq Nov 4, 2009
We vacation with my sister and brother-in-law in Maui when ever we can. Once we went to Kaui and my brother-in-law was not ... happy there. We always stay at the Maui Banyon. We love the area (more local), love the beach (convenient), walking to restaurants (able to drink more), we love the pool for lounging, and we love the rooms (this years was the best!) and love the patio (for playing cribbage). I could probably go on and on. Can't wait to go back again. Kathleen Swift

Pools and jacuzzi were cleaned daily, the housekeeping staff were friendly and cater to requests promptly. I would recommend and choose this place again next year.

It pays to be Kamaaina
RSA808 Jul 27, 2009
I accepted Aston's offer to upgrade Kamaaina (i.e. Hawaii resident) reservations. They provided me with a one-bedroom suite, ... with a kitchen! This was more than for which I had asked (I originally asked for a king-sized bed, rather than two twins). I am very happy with this accommodation!

swim Jul 23, 2009
We have stayed at the Maui Banyan many times. We go there for the swimming State Championship Meet held in Kihei. The unit we ... stayed in this times was by far the most updated. The hotel as a whole needs to be updated. The staff could have done a better job. At times no one was at the front desk and they ran out of pool towels many times and we were told to return at a certain time. Upon returning the towels still weren't available. There were some light bulbs that were burnt out in the room and we had to ask for replacements which was done in a timely manner. We will not be staying here in the future. At the swim meet we met many people who had other suggestions.

Beware Condo/ Hotel with No Hot Water
Mardi Gras Vacationers Jul 15, 2009
This condo complex rents "hotel" type rooms with condos. Unforntuantly, th hot water heater is not designed to heat one ... room, but two. We never had hot water the people in the room next to us the entire time had hot water. The hot water heater was smaller than my 1000 sqft house. We always were woken up by the neighbors cooking breakfast at 6 am due to the thin wall and we had to smell their aweful cooking everyday. Thank goodness Maui has tons to offer as we stayed as little as possible in the place and only to shower with cold water and sleep.

Maui Banyan Resort Survey
Jeanette Jun 16, 2009
This was our first vacation to a really nice beach and it was so nice and adventurous that we will go again for more than one ... week. We spent a lot of time shopping and not enough time for the beach. This whole package was great, the room provided useful things like dishes, soap, and I was suprised it provided a washer and dryer. One thing we disliked was the reservation rep seemed annoyed by our questions about Hawaii and she didn't give enough luau options. She directed us more to one luau. The plane was also great.
Traveler type: Family
I would reccommend that people study a map of the town they will be staying at, and note what they want out of the trip before they go. We spent some time driving looking for a nursery and ended up finding bulb plants in a convenient store.

Good Location but not going again
Nathan Jun 8, 2009
The reason I took this hotel is that I had a great experience in Resort Quest in Waikiki, but this time it turned out to be a ... dissappoitment. We stayed in a two bed room condo w/ kitchen. Since the first day, the A/C in the master room didnt work. I called the front desk, some one came and found out it was the defrosting problem. But he could do nothing but let me wait. Well, I accepted it coz it was late already. So I was waiting but until the day I left no one came to fix the problem for me. The other thing driving me crazy is the hot water. I dont know for what reason, when the second people taking the shower, the water became to warm and to cold. My girl friend complained this to me since the second day coz she took the shower later and this really made her lose her rag. Besides, the furniture looks kinda old.

We were a bit apprehensive about overpaying in Maui, but the Maui Banyan delivered a little bit of everything to make it a ... worthwhile experience. The full kitchen, superb location (opposite great beaches, next to shops, restaurants and a short drive to the highway) and free parking combined to make this a winner!

There's a natural food store (Hawaiian Moon) a short walk away that stocks interesting ethnic food items and organic fare if you're inclined to cook while you're in Kihei. The downside is that it can be pricier than the standards like Foodland.

Can you go wrong with Maui?
One who travels a lot May 20, 2009
The location is fantastic! Kihei is a small town that smells of sun tan lotion and local color; I would revisit for sure. ... What was disappointing about the stay was the accomedations. When pulling into the driveway you immediately realize the reason behind the LONG DISTANCE picture when booking the accomedations; the place is out dated and comparable to a retirement community. But, it's Maui, right?! Who cares! Once inside you don't care about the outside. It is nicely layed out and has that personal touch. It should, they are private suites owned by people like you and I; not by the hotel itself. This, I found, also presents a problem. I paid for a room w/ a view of the ocean. It was great until 3 days into my 8 day trip. I walked into my hotel after spending a fantastic day on the water, opened my curtains and instead of looking out at the ocean, I was looking at dense plastic covering the slider and windows; there was no ocean to look at. The complex was painting the building, but failed to notify me when I booked the suite. After calling to complain, asking them to take down the plastic, I was given a number to call by the front desk. It was the property managers number; but, the front desk didn't mention that the manager wouldn't be available until the next day. I asked the front desk to handle this and it was like pulling teeth from an unwilling patrion! FINALLY, after expressing the seriousiness of the situation, they moved me to another room...I loved the location of this hotel/condo, but I can't say that I would ever revisit...I'm not one to spend hard earned money on unfriendly, unaccomidating service.

The beaches up and down the strip are fantastic, and snorkeling is an easy walk from all the hotels! I saw sea turtles w/o having to pay for a trip out on an expensive boat trip.

If you're cooking most of your meals in your suite do your food shopping at the Star Market and Foodland to the North of the Banyan. For fruits, snacks, take-home gifts, take a run up to Kahului's K-Mart and Wal-Mart stores. If you're a Costco member the shopping there is also terrific. If you're looking for beer and wine, look for deals, as Long's Drugstore, ALL the supermarkets, including Safeway in Pi'ilani shopping centre, ABC stores, all have specials that you'll be happy with. Shop and compare like you would at home unless you have money to throw around in which case you can shop anywhere including the very reasonable Wailea Shopping Centre. You will notice below, in the Satisfaction Survey, that we marked '1' for 'Dining'. The reason for that is that the Banyan doesn't have any dining facilities. That you can have within easy walking, or short drive distances. Check out and make use of all those skinny, tall, narrow books on Maui for MANY good ideas for trips, shopping, dining etc.

Very short walk to beach. We did not have a car but there were plenty of restaurants and shops within walking distance. We used the free shuttle service offered by Hilo Hatties because it was too far to walk there. While we were there we walked down the street and had an awesome lunch.
