It was very nice. We used both of the pools and hot tubs. It was very well maintained, the grounds were very pretty. The ... only issue I had which wasn't major, was the air conditioner was kind of a hassle. I had to have the staff come to my room a couple of times for it, but they were very happy to help!

There are great dining establishments and shopping in nearby Lahaina. Also great art to view and purchase. It is a wonderful place to visit.

You will absolutely need a rental car. At least for the first few days. Most things you will have to drive to but it'll be worth it. For example, going to Front St. where all of the restaurants are is great but its a ways away. But if you need it they'll have it. Parking is sort of crazy but we had a blast.

The staff was very friendly and always took care of you in a timely manner. The Market across the street was absolutely ... wonderful! We would go across at all times to get the things that we had forgotten. Parking was very easy and close. The one drawback was if you had visitors they had to pay when they parked. Other than that this place couldn't be beat for the price. Full kitchen w/ salt, pepper, pots/pans, silverware, dishwashing liquid, towels, nice sofa w/ pullout bed, flatscreen tv in lv room and nice tube in bedroom. Great overall experience.

Previous stays at this hotel were much better. I was given a room with a view of the outside dumpster instead of the garden ... view we paid extra for and reserved months in advance. I believe Aston taking over Resort Quest had something to do with it. Our stay in Maui was great other than the hotel.

Beautiful Vacation Resort
BriLan Oct 18, 2009
Great beachfront location. The room was very nice and spacious. The Beachfront restaurant was very good. The ocean views ... from this resort are spectacular. This portion of Kaanapali beach is about a mile of unobstructed sand and makes for easy long walks. My only issue with this resort is the internet kiosk is not free which makes you have to pay to print your returning boarding pass. They do, however, have free wi-fi access. This is our third time at this location over the last six years and we've never been disappointed. We will definitely come back here in the future. We would highly recommend this resort to anyone planning a trip to Maui.

Overall good. We had a spare bedroom that did not have working air. We had to ask for another room which they gave us and ... made us happy. But why even rent a room that you know does not have air? They told us they knew and they told us there was nothing they could do about it. So why put us through the trouble of having to move rooms?

Hotel In desperate need of updating
Wailea mama Oct 8, 2009
The hotel lobby was nice as I expected our room to be. Not so, well maybe if you want to go back to 1981. The suite was ... obviously just 2 rooms put together. There was a sink in the closet!?? The bedroom with a queen bed had a weird bleach like smell as did the bathrooms. Also in the master, you had to close the TV armoire to squeeze by it and the bed. In the bathrooms you could see the linoleum, yes linoleum, peeling away from the wall. I'm so glad we were only there for 1 night. The best thing about the room was that there was a washer and dryer in it. The girl at the front desk was nice. We didn't walk around the property so I can't comment on that. It is just a short drive to Whaler's Village which was convenient.

EB Oct 6, 2009
The rooms are cheap, but they nickle and dime you for everything and you have to sign & initial so many forms, you'll think ... your applying for a passport. This probably isn't unique to this hotel, but it was alarming. Don't even think about buying a coffee at THEIR coffee shop and bringing it in to THIER restaurant. They won't seat you for fear you may be sneaking in alcohol at 9AM. What are we 14? I understand it's just policy, but... wow...

Across the street is the craziest coffee shop in the world - "Java Jazz." You must see to believe. It's beyond description, and they also have great food and service.

Great family vacation!!!!
Happy Vacationer Oct 4, 2009
Nice mix of activities and lazy days by the pool. Enjoyed complementary activities such as chair massages 3 times per week, ... free hula lessons, free scuba lessons in the big pool, free pool side "hula" show Wednesday nights with free punch for the kids ($2 rum punch for adults). Also did lei making for $6 each lei. The hotel also offers a contenental breakfast the first morning with a presentation on all the activities offered on the island. With a 5 year old who loved the pool, we spent tons of time at the kids pool. Great to have a shallow pool (they have 2 pools) so she could go in by herself. Enjoyed the conveniance of booking a snorkel trip and luau right from the hotel lobby. Very knowledgable staff without being too pushy. Was unhappy with view from initial room, immediately went back to lobby to complain and they moved us to another room. If you are not happy, let somebody know. They didn't even question me or give me any resistance. Will definately return! Next time we will stop at WalMart and the grocery store near the airport on the way to the resort. The store across the street is very conveniance but spendy. Bring a soft shell cooler for day trips or even for cold drinks pool side. Nine dollar drinks added up quickly from the poolside bar. Great vacation for honeymooners, families and retirees!

Fantastic sushi restaurant just a short drive north in Kapalua called Sensai. Just wonderful - this restaurant should definitely be on your list of places to eat. Can be pricey - but worth it.
--Megan, Lacey, Washington Oct 1, 2009
If you swim right in front of the hotel, wear sandals/shoes, there are fairly large (2' high) rocks in the water, or go 1/2 mile to the left where the beach is more sandy.Snorkel by the Boeys in front of the hotel. The store behind the hotel is convenient. Keep in mind that many attractions are in central / east Maui so it takes some time driving there. If you go to Hannah leave real early, if you can return before sunset (6:30) it's best. I drove all the way back in the dark (3h) and this is very challenging/tiring even though I'm used to twisty roads. Hotel restaurant is pretty decent.
--tbo, Seattle, WA Sep 21, 2009
You can save lots of $$$ by utilizing the kitchen in your room. Also, there's a bus stop right next door that will take you into the shopping district for only $1 or $2 each way, depending on where you want to go. Lots of $3 MaiTai's all around town during Happy Hour, too!
--toothlessaudra, Detroit, MI Sep 16, 2009
I found the activities were significantly cheaper to buy direct or through discount activity centers in Lahina vs. buying them through the Activity desk at the hotel.
--Atef, SF, CA Sep 8, 2009
Buy produce in the Star grocery across the street from the Hotel. Wine from CA is cheap, Milk is quite expensive. We made our lunch each day opting for a more expensive dinner each night. Merrimans and Sensei (at Kapalua) were great. We ate breakfast in the mexican joint across the street, well worth it all the food is made from scratch and the owner will pass along several travel tips.

--Wendy, Denver, CO Aug 21, 2009
If you can , take the trip to Hana. It is a 10 hr. trip by van but very relaxing. A very comfortable bus, with comfortable seats and large windows. You stop for breakfast, sight see, stop for lunch and then more sightseeing. You see beautiful waterfalls, rainforest, the 7 pools, etc. , beautiful flowers you feel as if you are in a garden of eden. A must see adventure. If 10 hrs is too long for your taste, you can go by van and return by helicopter allowing the viewing of the volcanos. Don't miss either of these experiences.
