Breakfast, Eggbert's is a must. - Short Walk For LUNCH - Bubba's Burgers is the best! And for DINNER - you have to try Sushi Busido's in Kapaa. The sushi doesn't get any better than that! And you must try Plantation Gardens! They have the best cucumber mojito and the garden island tea! That might not sound good, but don't knock it until you try it!

Hawaiians at heart.... Oct 27, 2009
The hotel staff is friendly. We've stayed here twice and have been completely satisfied with our stay. If we had to come up ... with something it would be that some rooms are too far from the parking lot. Bad only when you're moving your luggage. Otherwise, beds are comfortable, tile floors, seem to have been updated recently. Nice and can't beat the price for oceanfront on Kauai! The Coconut Marketplace is within walking distance and has a wonderful breakfast place, Eggbert's. A wide variety of shops and little eateries. Central location on the island. Makes it easier to see the whole island. We would recommend it!

OK, but no parking after 7pm
bluedog44 Oct 13, 2009
The rooms and the location are OK. The property is a bit old and there is not enough parking after 7pm. You have the option ... to park in a near by shopping plaza, but you have to move it before 8am or it gets towed. No resturant on site so there is no room service. Good for families but maybe not a honeymoon. Internet cost $10 per day in the room. The bed had a lot of miles on it and is past the time to replace.

Great location and even better price
The Honeymooners Sep 29, 2009
This was our first time to the islands and it was our honeymoon. We were upgraded to a ocean front view room when we arrived. ... The room was spacious and perfect for us. The staff was helpful and kind. Parking was free and no additional charges were added for oue stay. The pool was great with the bar opening at 2pm until 9pm with happy hour from 4-6. They had activity director at the front desk that we booked a Na Pali coast tour. This is so worth it. The tour blew us away. So much to do on the island. It was nice after all day adventure to come back to a clean room. Also, The Trees bar & grill was steps from our room and had live misic every night. We saw the Capt of our tour there that night and told us that The Trees was the new hottest little place on the island. Coconut Marketplace was also steps from our room with shopping and more eats. Check out the pizza shack in the marketplace. Some of the best pizza I have ever had. The location was great for us as we wanted to explore the whole island. All together our stay at The islander was great. The service was great and our room was better than we expected. You can pay more at other locations but why. This place was a great value for us.

Wailua Wheat drinker Sep 16, 2009
Our room was steps from the beach - we could see the sunrise without even getting out of bed! The staff were very friendly, ... and most accomodating when we requested a different room due to a mildewy smell in our original one (the only negative I can think of mentioning). They also allowed us to check in an hour early. The location, while perhaps not a destination in itself, is perfect for launching to either end of the island - and you will want to visit each end several times.

Lots of restaurants in the area, since it is more populated with locals than other parts of the island. We particularly liked the Trees Lounge right across the parking lot, which had nightly entertainment and excellent small plates.

The location of this hotel is perfect. If you stay there and rent a car, you won't need to split your stay in two hotels as ... they advice it in Lonely planet for example. It's close to Kapaa where you'll find supermarket and some nice restaurants. If you're looking for a deserted beach, no need to go all around the island, you'll find one just in front of the hotel. The standard of rooms is more than ok.

Giorgio Sep 11, 2009
The hotel is good for the price and for the position. It's perfect for exploring Kauai island. The room was big and well ... kept. The beach is not unforgettable because in my opinion it's not perfectly clean and above all it's not much wide (there is a narrow sandy space from the trees to the water); but in any case also the beach can be considered more than sufficient. The pool is small but my son loved it. Finally it's a good hotel with good rates

Great Value and Location
Chopper Pete Sep 10, 2009
This place suited our needs perfectly. We needed a ground floor, accessible room and got it. And with a partial ocean view ... too. Not a huge sprawling resort which is a good thing. The pool is nice with sun chairs and shade huts. And a bar with Happy Hour from 4pm to 6pm. I like this location a lot. The Islander does not have a restaurant but there are plenty nearby and good proximity to drive north or south on the island. I hope to go back next year.

Try dinner at the hotel next door at the Kauai Beach Resort. The restaurant is the Hukalau Lani and it's excellent. Also the fish hut in the Coconut Market Place. The onion rings are the best.

We went away for the weekend (originally from Honolulu) and stayed at this awesome hotel. We don't like being in the middle ... of the hussel, city, touristy locations. This was perfect because we were outside of the noise and hussel but still close to places to eat and beaches. Our hotel was right in the beach as well with an incrediable view. The stretch of beach was nice because we weren't close to other people or jammed all in one small area. I highly recommend this hotel if you are looking to get away and have some quiet and peaceful times in Kauai!

We had a wonderful view of the ocean and pool. The hotel lobby had a great tropical atmosphere to it. The only downside to ... the pool was the hot tub was not hot at all...more like a lukewarm tub. Parking was tight, but the close location to the shopping made up for it. Overall, wonderful place to stay for the price.

Fantastic Honeymoon Location
Katrina Newly Wed Sep 1, 2009
We found the location and resort absolutley fantastic, it wasn't far from the airport and right next door to the Coconut ... Markplace. We didn't need to hire a car we could walk to dinner locations and catch the shuttle bus if we want to go shopping at the bigger department stores. What a lovely quiet location, great for us Honeymooners, we were automaticially upgraded to an ocean view room upon arrival and the view and rooms were absolutley gorgeous. We would highly recommend this resort to any first time travellers to Kauai.

The Trees restuarant was right next door to the resort and had beautiful meals at a reasonable price but the service of the staff was second to none. Very friendly and helpful.

--Couple from Montana, Missoula, MT Aug 1, 2009
The island is small so it was within 15 min. of the airport, helicopter tours, waterfalls, beautiful valleys, hikes, river tours, great beaches, malls, markets, luaus, etc. Kauai is a great getaway for any nature lover or beach bum. We enjoyed all these activities and couldn't pick a favorite. This is not the island if you're a night owl. Leave your party shoes at home (no clubs, a few bars stay open past 11). There's basically no nightlife, but we didn't mind becasue our outdoor activities left us tired by the end of the day.
