DO NOT STAY HERE

RTA Sep 7, 2009

This was the single worst hotel stay I have ever experienced. First of all, when I booked on Orbitz I booked a room with 2 ... queen beds. When I got to the hotel they gave me one Full-size bed. I was told by two seperate staff members, including a night manager, that "that is what you get for booking through a third party". I was then told that the hotel was full and I could not get anything but this room. I was traveling with my wife and two children for a wedding. The room was barely enough room for myself. I called Orbitz and they read my booking agreement which stated I was supposed to get either a king bed or two queen beds. Orbitz was kind enough to call the hotel directly, and the next day they switched me to a room with one king bed (an improvement). When I asked about compensating me for the first night, they treated me like a second class citizen for booking through orbitz and told me I was already getting a deal and should not complain. Secondly, they charged me an additional $23 per day to park my rental car, despite the fact that I was staying there. There was a surface lot across the street that, I found out later, only charges $8 per day. Thirdly, despite this being a supposed "historic" hotel, there was no old world charm here, only minimal ammenities and a dilapidated and dated decor. The bathroom was small (one sink to share) and the furnishings minimal. The only good feature I could find was that their shampoo was Aveda, and I like Aveda shampoo. Otherwise, unless you want a rude staff, minimal amenities, hideous decor, and an over-inflated price, then this hotel is not for you either.

charline's weekend date Aug 21, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

We found the hotel to be fabulous. We were in walking distance of our event and the area around the hotel was inviting . The ... only problem we encounterd was not receiving the room we was promised from our booking itinerary. According to our reservation we should have had a room with a king or 2queens,in which neither we received. We were put in a small room with 1queen bed and not offered an apology. We were told excuses of several weddings that were booked for the same weekend and when booked on line this is what happens. Sounds like booking on line puts us on the bottom of the list for accomodations.

A hodgepodge of a hotel

All4intonation Aug 10, 2009

Went to Cleveland to attend three concerts at the Severance Hall with the Cleveland Symphony Orchestra. Hotel does not ... deserve the 4 starz. Rooms have almost no sound insulation, no refrigerator, no thermostad!, and no exhaust in the bathroom. Old and creaky furnature in the room. At the same time, it has a good room service, and clean carpets, which is a rarity. Good bedding. You have to buy internet service for $13.95 a day. And, yes, they do inflate your bill.

Would recommend to a friend!

Though older, the hotel was pretty, clean and in good condition. Some construction going on outside of building. Ate in one ... of the hotel restaurants. Food was reasonable and very good. Best location ever ! Walking distance to a lot of our destinations. Also easy access to RTA and buslines. A lot to do in the area. Downside was that there was no info available in rooms about hotel, tv service or downtown restaurants. Went thru several people to finally get info from staff.

This hotel cannot handle large crowds

Rocked in Cleveland Jun 15, 2009

When I got there, they did not have the room type that I had reserved and only had a queen for myself and my teenage son. ... Finally, they gave me a room with a queen and a rollaway. I asked for a discount and they said 'sorry, you booked with a third party'. There was a convention at the hotel and anytime during the day, the elevators were so crowded that you either had to wait 20 minutes or climb the stairs.

Terrific Hotel Experience

Lydia Apr 22, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

We traveled to Cleveland for the first time and stayed at the historic Renaissance Hotel at Tower City Center. Everything ... was within walking distance (Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, House of Blues, Hard Rock Cafe, Quicken Arena [Cleveland Caveliers], the Indians' and the Browns' stadium, and the shopping mall). Although we didn't take advantage of the public transportation, it was widely available. The hotel provided us with tickets to the Rock and Roll Hall of fame and had walking maps of the various Cleveland locations. We stayed on the 14th floor with accessability to the Club Room. This was a nice bonus and a great place to watch the NCAA playoffs. The food was fabulous as were the wait staff. The omelets for breakfast are a must. The drive to and from the airport was convenient and the hotel was conveniently located to Shaker Heights, where we attended a wedding. All said, the hotel was great and I would definitely stay there again should my travel needs send me to the Cleveland area. I will stay longer to see more of the historic sites and experience more of the local haunts. By far, this was one of my best travel experiences and this Renaissance was as great as any I've stayed in. Thanks for an enjoyable trip.

Pamper yourself in luxury, a short metro train ride from the airport, and located near the best restaurants in Cleveland. ... Beautiful finishes in the lobby and room, high quality furniture, a pampering experience.

Great Place to Stay

Sandra Mar 2, 2008

Would recommend to a friend!

We were very lucky that we selected this hotel as it made our trip very easy. We flew into Cleveland and rode the subway to ... the hotel. The subway stops at Tower City which made it so we never have to go outside. We attended two events at the Quicken Loans Arena. Again never having to go outside. We would stay again.

Elegant hotel for receptions

Elisha Jan 27, 2008

Would recommend to a friend!

We had a business holiday party to attend and stayed the night. Would plan another reception there if needed. The hotel was ... elegant, staff pleasant and efficient. Because of the function that night the check in line was exceptionally long but moved along quickly. We stayed in a standard king room but it was much nicer than most standard rooms at other hotels. It had a small desk for a lap top or for dining, a comfortable chair to sit and relax and a King bed with nice linens. The hotel has many luxury suites that we will take advantage of on our next stay. Great hotel and staff!

Great Historic Hotel Stay

Glenn Aug 13, 2007

Would recommend to a friend!

Nice place, but the neighborhood at night was less than desirable. The bedding was quite nice. Fast elevators (4 of them). ... Shopping mall and the subway to the airport (RTS - $1.75 exact change only) was attached to the property by corridor and mall. Skip the Johnny Q steak house visible from the front door and go to the warehouse district.

Great Location

Phyllis Jul 29, 2007

Would recommend to a friend!

the Cleveland Renaissance Hotel is in an excellent location! We were able to walk to all of the major sites in town. The room ... was spacious and the beds were comfortable. The breakfast buffet was delicious. The concierge was extremely helpful and friendly. We would definitely stay there again!!!

An unusual convenience: hotel has an access to the mall (a big indoor mall) and to the metro system which gets you to the airport.

--All4intonation, San Diego Aug 10, 2009

Money savers hint, Short Walk

Take the red line RTA from the airport. It costs $1.75 and stops inside the mall that is connected to the hotel. Everything is within walking distance - no need for a car!

Time savers hint

Don't rent a car. Instead, research the vast array of public transportation modes. The trains and the subways as well as the mass transit will take you absolutely everywhere. You can get some great exercise before and after meals if you walk to the various attractions (weather permitting).
