Better Than Expected

Out stay dates in Freeport Bahama were 09-07-09 to 09-12-09. We booked thru Orbitz and booked a room at the Our Lucaya Reef ... motel. When we arrived we were told that we were upgraded to the Radisson ( the old Westin). The Radisson room was really nice and had an ocean view, room service was very good and checkin people were really nice. Our room was located on the 9th floor and offered a great view of the ocean and property. The room could of used a few updates but all in all it was very nice. The bed was really a dream to sleep on and very nice. We suggest you pack lots of snack foods in your luggage when your travel, its a lot cheaper than buying things locally! Since we booked everything in September there was no crowd at any of the shops, beaches or resturants we visit, we really enjoyd the Lucaya Market Place located just across the street from the Radisson. You can bargain with the sellers at the market place and save a few dollars, they are all friendly there. The beach area at the Radisson was great, they have a tractor and plow the sand early each morning and it is great to walk on and also fluffs up the sand. Lots of sea-doo to ride and the ocean water was really warm. We also contacted a dive shop and made a two dive day in the ocean a few miles off shore. Be sure to check out the prices for these dives, some of the dive people are not very nice and we wish we had of choosen a different dive company. The resturant the "LeMed" , down by the marine harbor was ok but way over priced, tried the local beer but the taste was to flat for us.We ordered the Lobster & fish dinner and it was great and a nice salad on the plate to. Everyone should try the Conch, its sorta like clams but a really sweet taste. If you like a great cigar visit the Havana Cigar Shop located just a few doors down from the Isle Of Capri Casino. All cigars there are kept in humidity safe cigar room. Average price was about $15 per cigar but was great to have a Cuban cigar. Also buy your cokes there, they are only $1 a can, we paid $3 a can at the Radisson Motel lobby. The AfterDeck Resturant located in the Market Place - GREAT SERVICE Try the grouper fish & chips, its very good. The China Grill - Overpriced - GREAT HAMBURGER ! Located by the pool at the Radisson. Going thru Customs is a snap but be sure to keep all your paperwork, passports and immagration cards handy, you will need them to leave the country.

Great hotel for the price
Jess Aug 21, 2009
This hotel was great for the price that I paid, and since it's part of a two-hotel resort you get all the benefits of both ... hotels. The staff were very friendly, the room was nice and bright, and it was in a great location on the island. I guess my only complaint is that the lock on my window was broken so I couldn't open the window to enjoy the breeze. But that's a minor complaint.

Beautiful Beach resort

Wonderful location. Nearby Market Square stores and restaurants. Beach water at hotel is awesome. We did various tours ... and enjoyed them all. Enjoyed the casino at the hotel. I purchased the tickets on Friday night and departed on Thursday to celebrate my husband's 70 birthday. Enjoy every minute of it. I was looking for this particular hotel (Our Lucaya Reef Village). We purchased 6 air/hotel/all inclusive packages in June for our annual family vacation. My husband became ill the morning of our departure, July 2nd. and stayed home alone. We ended up losing the value of his travel package. I really wanted him to see the Bahamas and purchased 2 more travel packages for his birthday. The representative of the hotel gave us a beach view room as we were there to celebrate my husband's birthday. The Miss Universe contestants were there at the same time of our vacation. The staff of the hotel is friendly, helpful and courteous. We have been to several Carribean island and the Bahamas is so far the BEST IN EVERYTHING. I would love to go back for our family reunion. The only thing I would suggest is to have show or some activity at night near the pool area and have more staff during peak check in times.

Dave Jun 28, 2009
Very clean room, great location, overpriced food and drinks at hotel. Go across the street to eat at the market for better ... deals. We bought two bottles of liquor and some soda for the same price as two drinks on the beach. Casino is nice and clean. Do be careful of people selling things on the beach, some are scam artists. Very good first trip though, had a great time. P.S. Check out Lucayan Nat'l Park, beach is beautiful there.

Grounds were Fantastic!
Caribbean Connoisseur May 28, 2009
Check in was flawless, no wait, stayed 5/23-5/28 no hassle about the resort fee. I paid this up front through Orbitz when I ... purchased the trip. The pools were fantastic especially the infinity pool that overlooked the ocean. If you go past the Convention Center you can find a more secluded pool near the Westin suites. For Dining, I recommend After Deck at the Marketplace across the street. If you like fish, try the fish and chips or the grilled mahi mahi, fantastic and affordable. Zorbas also had good fish although a little pricier. Stayed at the Sheraton and you can go to all the facilities at the Sheraton or the Westin. Beds were comfortable. My recommendation for the air conditioning is to turn it way down about an hour before you go to bed, then turn it off for the night because it can get a little noisy. Sometimes they did not clean the room until 4:00 p.m., but always came by to make sure that it was done. They have a tractor that combs the beach everyday and makes the sand nice and soft to walk on. If you get out early, you will be the only person on the beach. Some stores in the marketplace close early around 8:00, or even 6:00 on Sundays so be aware. Also some stores do not open until 8:00 or 9:00 a.m. Overall it was a fantastic resort.

Hidden Cost
Rick and Diane May 14, 2009
Nice resort however upon check out I found out that I owed an additional $210.00 in hidden "resort" charges. One of the ... charges was $8 per night per person and the other was $7 per night per person for a grand total of $30.00 per night for a couple. This was never explained to me at all by anyone either from Orbitz or when I checked into the hotel. When I got to the hotel they told me I would be responsible for taxes never mentioned the hidden $30.00 per night fee, as it turned out they tried to charge me for the 2 six percent taxes that I had already paid through Orbitz, I had to make a long distance call from Freeport to get this taken care of. Also I had an ocean view room garentee however when I got to the room and went out on the balcony (facing the ocean) all you could really see was about 100 feet of the roof of the lobby below when I went to have this changed it took about 4 hours to get fixed because they had to wait until a manager made the decision, their kept telling me that because it was facing the ocean that they honored their agreement and on top of that they could not change my room because a party was coming into the resort 5 days later that wanted the rooms they had before. Eventually they did change the room to one with a view. The lady behind the counter who was not the one originally helping me was very rude and kept saying that the hotel only guarenteed the ocean facing room and not the ocean view room. I did not pay this kind of money to sit on my balcony to see a roof top. I actually wanted to get 4 rooms for next year (same time period) to bring my Son, Daughter in law and 2 daughters and grandchildren but not with the hidden surcharge that would be an extra $945.00 for a week stay. Either add the hidden charges in the room rate or tell someone when they book about the hidden/surprise charges.

C+ at best....
NcSavage May 11, 2009
I went down for my cousins wedding. It was your typical redneck family get away type of hotel/Vacation experience. ... CONS: "Loud drunk, lobster red, over weight, middle aged men hitting on anything that moves at the pool bar. " The room smelled like mildew, and it was suppose to be a nicer "ocean view" room. " Over priced everything! " A staff that might let you drowned " They even messed up the wedding reception a bit when the AC went out at the main banquet hall. Then told the bride that "Its ok...the AC will take awhile to cool down the place" just to get he to sign something that says everything is alright with the banquette hall. PROS: " Nice location. " Hidden infinity pool at the end of the compound that no one really went to!?!!?? " Nicer price than the Westen. Overall it was not a bad time, just not a great hotel experience.

Grandma Sandra Apr 23, 2009
It was a lazy vacation with activities centered around shopping, beach/pool, and the casino. Due to slow economy, some of ... the restaurants in the resort were closed and that was inconvenient. The food was expensive but everything was good. There were plenty of restaurants in the shopping center. We enjoyed being close to the casino.
