The islands of Vieques and Culebra are located off the eastern coast of Puerto Rico. Growing in popularity, most visitors travel to the islands for their pristine beaches as well as for its azure waters which are ideal for snorkeling and diving. One of the most fascinating attractions on Vieques is Mosquito Bay, where bioluminescent organisms cause the water to glow at night when splashed in the moonlight.
Porta del Sol is home to gorgeous beaches, energetic surfing and scrumptious seafood. The main city of Mayagüez combines an urban atmosphere with the feel of a resort town. Further south, travelers can unwind at Boqueron Beach in Cabo Rojo. Also in this region is the uninhabited Mona Island, known as the Galapagos of the Caribbean; an ideal setting for overnight camping trips and day nature excursions.
The south’s Porta Caribe region is home to the “Pearl of the South,” Ponce. A major cosmopolitan and cultural hub, the city houses several world-class museums worth visiting. Other culturally-rich towns include Guayama, Arroyo and Coamo with its famed hot springs, the Baños de Coamo. Adventure seekers should go diving in Puerto Rico’s only underwater marked path system on the Island of Caja de Muertos.
San Juan, the capital of Puerto Rico and the gateway to the Caribbean, offers travelers a myriad of cultural, historical, leisure and entertainment attractions. From the charming historical and residential districts of Old San Juan, to world-class beachfront hotels Isla Verde, exclusive shopping and exciting nightlife options in Condado, visitors will find themselves at home in this cosmopolitan Caribbean paradise.
