Romantic and secluded
RobbinK Sep 20, 2009
We stayed at this hotel when we needed one night before we left the island after a week stay at a time share. Princess ... Heights is a beautiful property, built into the hillside overlooking Oyster Pond on the east side of St. Maarten. The decor was very elegant and romantic with a breezy island atmosphere - it lacked the "generic" feel of the larger properties. The staff was friendly and thorough and nice, but not elaborate, room amenities were provided. The view from the balcony was spectacular, particularly at dawn, and the room itself was immaculate and well-appointed. For the price, I don't think you can find a room with a more plush feel, and the bed was the most comfortable I have had in a hotel. There were a few negatives. This is not a property that is amenable to being without a car. The road up to the property is incredibly steep and can be difficult to access in bad weather (which is thankfully rare). There is no internet access or in-hotel restaurants and stores available, however the staff is helpful in procuring anything you may need - and grocery service is available for a fee. We were able to hook up and check email at the nearby lobby of the Westin Dawn Beach, where there are also two excellent restaurants, shops and a casino (gaming room). If you are looking for a romantic, secluded getaway with a personal touch and don't require a concierge desk to book your activities, this boutique hotel is an excellent option. It is wonderfully European in character, and was a fantastic place to spend our last night on the island. If you want a full-service resort, this may not be for you.

Although the room was gorgeous and had a fantastic view, it was a little inconvenient getting to the beach and dining. The ... hotel sits high up on a hill and requires a walk down a lot of stairs and a hill to access Dawn Beach at the Westin Hotel. You do have the option of driving which is the easiest if you have a rental car and parking at the Westin. Dawn Beach is beautiful and has some of the best snorkeling on the island.

Our Kinda Place
Happy Camper Sep 9, 2009
My wife and I stayed at Princess Heights for our 1st anniversary. Being on the Atlantic side of St. Maarten, it's away from ... the more crowded, busier, and less private areas like Simpson Bay and Phillipsburgh. We had a deluxe studio suite, which included a king bed, two large closets, stainless steel kitchenette (fridge, microwave, stove top, blender, utensils), double vanity in bathroom, jacuzzi tub, and tile floors throughout. We found the management and housekeeping personnel to be helpful and pleasant. After a couple days at the beach, we asked our housekeeper if she could wash the beach towels we had brought down with us and she gladly did so.Our room also had a beautiful view of the beach and ocean. The massive Westin resort down below is nothing special. It does have all the amenities you would expect from a huge resort, including a small casino, but we would definitely take Princess Heights over the Westin any day.The only reason I did not give Princess Heights 5 stars is because it's built into the side of the hill and you can't just walk right out onto the beach. This was not an issue for my wife and I, as we didn't mind the short walk down to Dawn Beach (less than 5 mins). Also, you'll find on St. Maarten that you'll be driving your car to the other beaches and activities around the island, so really it's not a big deal that you're up the hill a bit. It actually makes for a great view.We picked up some items at the grocery store when we landed, so we had some drinks, sandwiches and snacks to hold us over during the day. At night we would go out for dinner and/or drinks. Most of the restaurants are priced between $15-$30 for entrees. Even burgers and chicken sandwiches tend to be around $12-$15.We found a place called The Dinghy Dock and absolutely loved it. Good pub food and drinks fairly inexpensive. Literally right on the water over by Captain Oliver's. We had so much fun hanging out with some of the regulars a couple nights, and met some great people. Ask anyone where Captain Oliver's is and you'll be able to find Dinghy Dock from there.Driving in St. Maarten is a bit of an adventure the first couple days, but it was kinda fun after we learned our way around. If you visit Orient Beach, go to a place call Lestring...[...] (one of the owners) is a great guy, and [...] (one of his bartenders and beachboys) is a lot of fun too. They do it right...good fun! There is internet access available in the rooms if you bring your laptop. Otherwise the computer in the office is available for use by guests. We checked our email a couple times just to say hi to family since our cell phones didn't always work on the island. All in all we had a relaxing vacation and would definitely stay at Princess Heights again.

Dinghy Dick and La Fregate are two great places to eat good food at reasonable prices and they are close to Princess Heights. At Oyster Bay Resort we found Big Fish to be over rated for the price. Mr. Busby's is cool bc you eat pretty much right on the beach.

The staffs were awesome, they were able to switch us to another room with a private balcony. The locations is so far from ... eveything else, but at least it was quiet. The facility were pretty clean with housecleaning every morning at 10AM. The only complaint is the creakiness of the bed; it would creak everytime I move.

Princess Heights was excellent

The views of Dawn Beach in the the Caribbean were excellent from the Princess Heights. I enjoyed the exercise walking to & ... from the beach, but you could take a car there as well. We stayed in a one bedroom corner suite with a full kitchen. Our dining balcony overlooked the Caribbean as did our bedroom. We liked the quiet and the nearness to the rest of St Martin/Sint Maarten. We went to the spa on Oyster Pond, we went to Yvette's local good food restaurant, we went to Orient Beach, Downtown Phillipsburg, the Market at Marigot, Cupecoy Beach, etc. Nothing is far, but you need a car. Princess Heights has rental cars, but we rented ours at the airport. We would return and stay here again.

The Princess Heights Hotel is a fantastic value to say the least. Although the Hotel is not right on the beach, it offers ... Ocean (St Barths in the background) and Beach views that are awesome. The rooms are immacculate and the cleaning staff did a unbelievable job. I have been to St Martin 8 times and the last 2 times stayed at Princess Heights. I wish I had found them sooner. The wait staff was extremely helpful and very accomodating to all our needs. Their recomendations for dining and beach spots were exceptional to say the least. The Princess Heights team of [...] have solidified my choice of staying at Princess Heights the next time I visit St Maarten! Unfortunately they could not met the request of a Hot Tub by their pool, yet everything else was above and beyond EXCELLENT! Did I say Phenomenal? Do yourself a favor try Princess Heights the experience will be nothing short of spectacular and it is a HUGE BARGAIN!

The hotel itself is excellent. There is no restaurant there, so you must go find your food.
