Ideally located Hotel
Gk Aug 25, 2009
It would have been good if the parking is free. And also entering into hotel is not direct. The location of this hotel is ... great. This is very near to downtown and also from the stanely park and other attractions. I am hardly in the room except for sleep. Overall the experience is pleasant. There is no fridge in the room may be because the room booked through orbitz. That is really bad considering you are staying with family and need to have milk stored somewhere for the kids. Accessing internet costs you. But if you use this for staying and sleeping this is a great place with ideal location.

Old, but convenient
Empty Nester Aug 12, 2009
The staff of the hotel was friendly and helpful. The location was very convenient to the excitment of Downtown, but far ... enough from the traffic that it was easy to access. My only disappointment was the age and dated condition of the hotel. The rooms were huge, but any added features were obvious after thoughts. The breaker for the a/c went off at least once a night. Surprisingly, the breaker box was in our room! Just a little inconvenient (for my husband, anyway) and kind of comical. Our room was on the 17th floor and that was kind of cool, however street work below was very noisy. It kind of felt like a place that would have been a four or five start hotel in its day, but as is, ranks no better than a three.

NOT a Good Deal
Disappointed Jun 29, 2009
We thought that the price was right and that this would be a good match for us since we are traveling on a budget, but wanted ... to stay somewhere clean and downtown. This is NOT a downtown location. There are buses that go downtown, but not in the late night so going out requires about $20. cab fare back to the hotel. Also, parking costs $20. for overnight (different from the price I was told over the phone which was only the daytime price of $10.) and internet costs $15. per day. Part of the deal for this hotel was also that we were supposed to get a voucher to the hotel's diner for $10. towards breakfast. NO ONE told us AT ANY POINT that breakfast was only served until 10am and it was NOT POSTED ANYWHERE. So we missed breakfast by about 5 minutes and thus didn't get our voucher redeemed. The worst part was that the people who worked behind the front desk were surly, argumentative and the opposite of helpful. The room was clean enough that I didn't feel I needed to sleep in my own sleeping bag, but it was falling apartholes in the curtains, peeling wall paper and air vents falling apart. Not to mention that the balcony (which should be a bonus in any hotel room) was shared but a noisy and ugly swamp cooler. We actually HATED this hotel and the service so much that we switched to the Georgian Court Hotel which was under construction and still managed to be nicer than the Plaza 500.

Does the job

I was looking for a decent place to crash for a couple of days with a friend and we were going for the lowest rate in the 3-4 ... star category. The Plaza did just that. It's infrastructure (plumbing and air conditioning) is kinda creaking but the room, comfortable beds, and location compensates for the hotel's aging amenities. You also have to pay for everything (parking, internet access, etc...). Not alright !!

The hotel was very friendy and addressed standards. The location was very good with access to the BC Liquor store and 15 bus ... routes and soon the subway line once it opens in 2009. It also has the best view in the world!

What's nearby? Downtown is a 15 minute walk or you can take the #15 bus North Bound to downtown. The 500 Plaza hotel is about 1.5 miles from downtown--but worth it for the views! Lots of coffee shops and restaurants are located within 30 seconds of the hotel. There is a safeway and Fitness World in front of the hotel at the shopping centre.

Mediocre stay
Serina Dec 7, 2008
The Plaza 500 was spacious and comfortable and had a nice view of city. Downfall was the bathroom door was broken, small ... tv, no microwave and HAD TO PAY FOR PARKING which was $20 a night unless you can find a non-towaway spot on the street nearby. Looking for cheap but comfortable and moderately safe place to stay this is good.

Our room had a great view and the layout was nice. The staff was friendly as well. They charged $20 a night for parking and ... they charged to use their computer to access the internet as well. The second night we parked on a nearby street for free so it is pretty easy to avoid the parking fee. All in all, we enjoyed our stay. We thought the hotel was ok.

It cost more to park then the cost of renting a car! This Hotel was close to some good dining places only a few blocks away. ... The TV was too small the bathroom did not have a hair dryer---they took it off the wall. The outside light came in the room--the curtain did not block them out. Very Good Choice
Jamie Sep 24, 2007
The Plaza 500 exceeded expectation, the room was clean, had a cozy feel, and was well appointed. I was especially impressed ... with the staff, they were well organized, very friendly and accommodating. The location was also very good, in a nice neighborhood, across from the city square for shopping, few blocks from downtown, and seemed to have easy access to city transit. The onsite restaurant the 'Figmint' was amazing, must try. The only issue I had during my week stay was the sliding glass door did allow rainwater to leak onto the carpet. It was my last day there when it happened so i made no attempt to report it to the staff, I however have no doubt that if i did, it would have been resolved immediately. I will return to this hotel, and highly recommend it.

Nothing Spectaular
Esteban Sep 23, 2007
The Plaza 500 was sub standard due to its older room accomidations. We had a bathroom vent that sounded like thunder was ... rumbling above us. There were also light fixures in the room and bathroom that did not have appropriate covers. The restaurant located adjacent to the hotel was great. The food and the service was extraordinary. The French-press coffee was excellent. The location was across from the transit system which made getting in and out of the downtown area easy.
