Great hotel. Old world style with class. Near everything my partner and i wanted to do. Hillcrest neighborhood was a few ... blocks away(could of driven but it was kinda chilly). Good size room. OWN FULL KITCHEN!!!!!! The only thing it could do is update the furniture and maybe paint white all the wood accents in the kitchen(gives it a clean look) but definitely NOT a deal breaker. Very Nice continental breakfast on the rooftop. Spectacular views from the top. Parking is free but hard to find at night. They have a restaurant and piano bar so the lot was full. We had to park on the street. Didn't have any bad experiences with staff. As for the staff, they were very nice. Fast and easy check-in. We didn't need anything so there was no need to call/request anything during our stay so we can't comment too much on that.

Old Town Mexican Cafe in Old Town. yummy carnitas. not dry at all with all the fixins. Good marguaritas. Drinking- if you're gay, go up fifth ave. You can walk if you want. Not far at all. The Loft was a cool place to have a drink. Not a WEHO type of bar. very friendly people. Neighborhood bar.

It was quiet and nice right across for a playground at balboa park. The free breakfast was nice. The staff was friendly. Our ... 2-bedroom suite was huge and there was a walk-through closet where we could put the playpen so my son had his own area. The kitchen was convient for snacking and lunches. The fans in each room were nice and needed. Now it's old. Really old and there's heavy, heavy wood furniture everywhere that is super uncomfortable. Mirrors and scary statues everywhere. The kids (and me)were freaked out. Tables with glass on top and sharp corners. My toddler probably had 5 accidents with his face.

Great staff---very helpful. A little off the beaten path but clean and spacious. The building is historic and it seems the ... owners have made great attempts to keep it that way ( though the wireless access was great!!). Being on the older side, there were some creaks in the floor from above. Right across the street from Balboa park-- beautiful place to walk/run and close to zoo.

Park Manor Suites
Terry D Oct 28, 2009
I have previously stayed at 4 and 5-star venues in San Diego but this was by far the most comfortable, spacious and friendly ... properties I have ever experienced. Being a single traveller this time, I was particularly appreciative of the friendly and warm attention of the staff. The piano bar, restaurant and roof patio made this a place to linger rather than go out searching for other dining spots. The suite was spacious, quiet and spotlessly clean. Being next to Balboa Park, all the amenities were within walking distance, as was the vibrant neighbourhood of Hillcrest, just a ten minute walk away. Even more astounding, parking was free! The first opportunity I have, my plan is to return to Park Manor Suites for another relaxing stay. For the business traveller, the suites offer a quiet and peaceful alternative to the hustle and bustle of the busy central hotels, yet you are only 5 minutes drive from downtown. Top marks to the Park Manor Suites!

Do not waste time searching for dining/entertainment venues elsewhere. This is one of the best in San Diego. Three-course meal specials are also offered at very reasoable prices. As a single diner, I was able to return with half a bottle of wine for dinner the following evening! That's a first in N. America for me.

Very nice boutique hotel. Balboa Park across the street - easy walk to Prado. 4th of July weekend made it pretty noisy - no ... air - could not close windows. Large party with predominantly gay crowd on roof two nights in a row. Lobby and entry charming with nice rose garden, raised patio, french doors. Overall good experience.

It is a gay-friendly hotel. We weren't aware of this when we reserved it. Worked out fine except for the noisy weekend parties. (but it was 4th od July. Pleasant, Quiet, No-Frills Hotel
Traveling Salesman Apr 22, 2009
The hotel is a bit drab and in need of refurbishing. The room was large and the bath and kitchen, while functional, were ... tired and/or cheaply remodeled. It was a long (45 minute) but pleasant walk to the Convention Center. The desk staff was friendly and helpful. The breakfast (included) was simple-- mostly cereal, fruit, yogurt, bread/pastry items, tea/coffee, juice. The view from the top-floor breakfast area, however, was very nice.

Gregory Dec 30, 2008
Love this place. From the moment we checked in, had nothing but positive experiences. The staff was very friendly and ... attentive. The room was huge with a little kitchen, large closet, roomy bathroom. Very comfortable all around. The rooftop view is spectacular. Located across the street from Balboa Park is a great plus as is the free parking. Lots of good places to eat in the Hillcrest area within walking distance (especially recommend the Crest Cafe for breakfast and the Golden Dragon for dinner). Will absolutely stay here again. A+++

Spacious room
Marsha Dec 30, 2008
Our room was very spacious with full kitchen, eating area, double closets, vanity, couch and comfy king sized bed. The ... furniture and decor is older, but nice, and the mattress was new. The views of downtown San Diego from the 7th floor breakfast area were fantastic. The location is great; a five minute walk to the Balboa Park trolley, which takes you to the museums and other highlights of the park. It was an easy 10 minute drive to the Gaslamp District from the hotel. The hotel does not include a gym or spa, but we would definitely stay there again, because of the spacious room, friendly staff, breakfast and location.

I was very impressed with the friendly staff both at check-in and when I had special requests (transportation questions). The ... hihglight of my stay was the breakfast served rooftoop with views of the water, mountains, and the city. It was a delightful treat! My room was very large and had a kitchenette which would have been a great time and moneysaver had I brought my family. I saved lots of money on transportation by hopping on the bus (the block outside) to attend meetings at the downtown convention center. A day pass with unlimited use was only $5.00. The hotel was also very conveniently located to the huge park and other great places. I will definitely come back to this convenient location and great value.

The Park Manor Suites is an ideally located, historic hotel that emits a laid back friendly aura with comfortable, large, ... clean rooms. Once you enter the beautifully appointed lobby, you feel as if you have entered a bygone era that has been carefully preserved and includes the value (free, convenient parking) and attentiveness of the staff to provide what any discerning travelor might require today. Whether its enjoying the complimentary continental breakfast each morning on the roof overlooking the city and the bay or taking a daily jog, stroll in the park acroos the street, you feel like your destination in the city of San Diego is actually the Hotel itself. I highly recommend this property to all of my family and friends.

Jeffrey Jul 15, 2008
Freindly and very helpful staff, nice size rooms, great location (across the street from Balboa Park), very reasonable ... prices, BUT..conditions are just a little too beat-up to recommend. It is an old hotel, so some of the paint/finish is to be expected to be in need--but when all said and done I just cannot bring myself to recommend a hotel, when you end up killing a C.roach in the bathroom first thing in the morning.

Good Choice For Certain Situations
Patrick Mar 12, 2008
If you are looking for a modern high-rise with outstanding views, the newest amenities, service and conveniences, or are ... looking for a location in the middle of downtown where all the action is, this may not be for you. But if you are looking for a spacious place with separate living room, bedroom, and dining room with kitchen, and don't mind an older property, this may be for you. It has more of an older home or inn/b&b type of feeling than a hotel and is on the older historical property (although it was clean). But because it is an older building, you really get that feeling when staying there. Floors and ceilings creak above and below you, the bathroom fixtures are older style (but clean and working). There is also no a/c. It can get rather warm in the room (only way to cool it down is to turn on the ceiling fan or open the windows. There was a ceiling fan in the living room but none in the bedroom. They had a cheap standing floor fan in the closet that one could use. Recommend the hotel install a ceiling fan in the bedroom as well. We went in early March (which is still considered Winter) so not sure how I would do in the middle of summer when it gets a lot hotter. The staff (front desk personnel) was very friendly and are able to give suggestions on what to see, but don't expect parking valets or bellmen to take your luggage to your room. Included are free self-service continental breakfast on the rooftop (choice of indoor or outdoor seating) was a good start each morning with nice views of the surrounding area on the rooftop (mostly low rise buildings and Balboa Park nearby). Also free parking and internet access helps planning for things to do during the day. Not much else to see within walking distance, especially during the night.
Traveler type: Couples
If you want to visit museums, Balboa Park, and the San Diego Zoo, they are all within short driving distance (or a long walk).

Good Basic Hotel, With a Few Drawbacks
William Mar 2, 2008
Generally, the Park Manor Suites proficiently met basic needs. Nice room size (full kitchen, dining area, spacious living ... room and large walk-in closet space), nice bed, and very quiet at night, perhaps because the structure dates back to the 1920s. The continental breakfast was outstanding, and the staff were very helpful and friendly. And, the hotel's restaurant was superb -- but pricey. But there are a few drawbacks. The dimly lit hallways posed a potential security risk for guests. There was no air conditioning in my room, and presumably that's the case for all rooms. However, there was a ceiling fan, which helped. And of course, there's no pool or fitness center, although the hotel offers passes to a local health club -- for a small fee. Overall, it's a good value for the basics that are provided.
Traveler type: Business
Not a lot of good restaurants nearby -- although there's a nice dessert place, a coffee shop, a Mexican restaurant and a Seven-Eleven nearby. Balboa Park is across the street.

Sofia Jun 20, 2007
The Park Manor was a great find. The staff was very welcoming. Our room was upgraded to your 2 bedroom suite, what a ... surprise. The beds were very comfortable and the bedding was clean and fresh. My only suggestion is to have a better supply of the little things at the front desk that a traveler may have a tendency to arrive without (i.e. toothbrush and toothpaste and shower caps). I was surprised to learn that the front desk had none of those things. Luckily, there was a 7 Eleven with in walking distance as it was 11:30 p.m. We will definitely stay again.
