Outrigger Reef on the Beach - Classy!
Tharan24k Nov 10, 2009
The view of Diamond Head from the beach area and the restaurant are great! The food was very good and reasonable (for ... Hawai'i). Staff members are friendly and helpful. The hotel does not provide beach chairs or umbrellas - those you rent on the public beach. In November the beach is not crowded but during the high season it probably will be.

The Outrigger Reef has been beautifully renovated including the historic, soaring canoe house entrance. Local musicians play ... traditional Hawaiian music every night at the Grille and it sounds beautiful wafting up to our room which overlooked the pool courtyard. The location is excellent, right down the street from the new Waikiki Beach Walk Development(and all trolley and bus stops). Walk over to the Hilton Hawaiian Village for a luau and check out the beautiful sculptures all over the property. Try Eggs n Things on Saratoga Street for a "local" breakfast spot and the Yard House on Lewers for the best grilled cheese/tomatoe soup combo. We took the bus and/or cabs to Diamond Head, Iolani Palace, Hanauma Bay and Pearl Harbor (USS Missouri currently in drydock). Although cabs are usually expensive, plenty of cab drivers were offering fares off the meter that were usually just a couple dollars more than the bus. Rented a car for a day trip to the North Shore.

Another fantastic trip to Hawaii
Hawaii Joy Oct 27, 2009
This was my 2nd time staying at the Outrigger Reef & both visits were wonderful. Now that the hotel is done with their ... remodeling it's probably the best place to stay in Waikiki. The pool never felt crowded, chairs were always available. The pool area isn't as noisy as at some of the more resort-type hotels. We spent alot of time at the Shorebird Beach bar. Their lunch menu is great & the Mai Tai specials from Noon until 5 can't be beat. PLUS the view, it's just amazing. Sitting there & gazing out at the beach & Diamnond Head, well it doesn't get any better than that. We also had breakfast included with our room, so we ate here every morning too. Two days we got to witness the Vow Renewal ceremony that the hotel puts on. It looks beautiful & my husband & I plan to return in 3 years do renew our vows for our 25th anniversary. It was a great, relaxing vacation. The worst part of the whole trip, having to leave the hotel to come home.

Make use of the ABC Stores. They are all over Waikiki, with one just a short block from the hotel. They have large bottles of water for only .99 & they also have sandwiches & snacks. Coco Cove on Kalakaua also has a nice deli if you just want a sandwich so you can have lunch on the beach or by the pool.

We loved the Outrigger Reef on the Beach
Beetle Mamma Oct 19, 2009
My Husband and I loved the Outrigger Reef on the Beach!! We were on our 25th Anniversary and my Husband 5oth Birthday. The ... last time we were in Hawaii was 25 years ago for our Honeymoon. We loved our ocean veiw and the size of our room. The hotel was very clean and friendly. One of the things we really liked was having our breakfast included with our stay. We really liked were our hotel was located because one of our favorite things to do is to walk along the ocean front every moring after breakfast, then lay out on the beach for the afternoon. We only went to the hotel pool on the last day of our because we felt that the reason we came to Hawaii was to enjoy the ocean. We loved the fact that we were close to all the shopping and some very good restaurants. Our favorite place was the Ocean front restaurant that was right in our hotel it a very classy place and the service was bar none!!! We give the Outrigger Reef on the beach a 5!!

AlohaLani made us feel welcome the minute we arrived and called us before checking out which started our trip out right and ... ended it on a high note. We were in town for the ADA Dental Convetion and felt right at home in the Outrigger Reef on the Beach. We traveled the island via rental jeep, hit the waves at the North Shore, snorkeled, hiked Diamond Head and walked the streets of Honolulu. We had a great time and would recommend this hotel to those who like the island feel while having that cosmopolitan flair.

Extra Person Charge Excessive
ToothWizard Oct 8, 2009
Despite two double beds in the room, an extra person fee of $50 was added to the room rate. Considering the expenses to the ... hotel were more toiletries and towels used, this was over-the-top excessive. For the six-day stay that amounted to $300 plus taxes. You can get a whole room for less than that in most states.

We enjoyed the sight seeing,we went to North Shore and Diamond Head and pearl harbor great places to see. We had asked for ... king size bed and we recieved 2 double beds and they were not very helpful to try and get us into a room with a king bed unless we upgraded at $65 per night. My husband and I travel often and it was a nice place to stay but was not over all impressed with the staff. They did not seem to go out of there way to help solve issues.

We received an unexpected auto upgrade on our arrival. The decor is first-rate and does not disappoint! The hotel was gorgeous and perfectly placed, so it wasn't too rowdy from any of the events in the area. Service was ... phenomenal. The only down side at all was the road construction and the work on Trump tower that woke us up every day at 8 a.m.

Great Hotel in a Great Location

The Outrigger was one of the nicest hotels my wife and I have ever stayed at. It is located right on the beach and close to ... all shopping and restaurants. The staff was great - they let us use a room for 30 minutes to shower before our leaving flight, even though we had checked out earlier. We enjoyed the Starbucks right in the lobby. The bed was comfortable and there was a refrigerator in the room.

A good vacation spot in Waikiki
Vacation Girl Aug 26, 2009
My boyfriend and I stayed at the hotel for a week. It was our first time in Oahu and the location was good for the price we ... paid. I'll start with the down sides. We got a partail ocean view room but we were only able to see a sliver of the ocean between two buildings, when we leaned over the balcony. Our package came with breakfast at the Shore Bird restaurant, which serves the same buffet items every day. Not a lot of choices if you don't eat pork. The pool is a bit small and the pool hours are only from 8am to 8pm and there are usually a lot of kids in the pool during all hours. Now for the good points, service was great and the location on Waikiki, although not as great as some of the other hotels, but everything in Waikiki is still within walking distance. There are plenty of restaurnts and shopping within a 5 to 15 minute walk. During our stay we took three tours and all pick up locations were at our near the hotel. The hotel uses a shuttle company fir guest that want to go a nit farther and booking through the valet service was $1 or $2 cheaper then booking direct. We had a very late flight in the day of checkout and the hotel provides luagage storage and a courtesy room for half an hour to freshen up, which was the best thing about the hotel. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would stay here again.

For gifts and souvenirs go to the Aloha Swap Meet, only open Sat., Sun., and Wed. It's not as big as I thought it would be but prices were definitely better than shopping Waikiki.

Besides the mandatory valet parking at the hotel, having a rental car was worth its weight in gold. Waikiki is what it is: crowded, expensive, and of course very touristy. At no time did I feel trapped and I could get out of the city whenever I felt like it and find my own slice of Hawaii. Trust me, there is way more to see, the island is not just Honolulu/Waikiki.
--The Satisfied Canadian, Vancouver, British Columbia Aug 7, 2009
The Outrigger Reef serves as the perfect hub for an Oahu vacation. Don't get a rental from the airport - use www.jcairportshuttle.com for a private ride to your hotel, then just pick up a rental as you need it from the Hertz desk at the hotel. With no car on your hands, it's easy to kick back and soak in the hotel's ameneties and service, and walk to the many Waikiki attractions as you wish. Then when you want to strike out, the great valet service will handle your rental car at a moment's notice. Suggest you book the rentals in advance if you can to ensure available cars.

Nice to watch some hula dancing then, stroll on down to the beach to watch the fireworks. Remember to bring a mat!
