Location is outstanding
LESD Oct 20, 2009
The location is outstanding. Copacabana is steps away. Ipanema is just a five-minute walk. The staff was friendly and ... helpful. Free breakfast was very good with lots of choices. Our only disappointment was that our "superior room" had no view...and very little natural light. But it is clean and well-run, and it's in the middle of everything. A good value for the money.

Great hotel in Rio!
Frequent traveler to other countries Aug 28, 2009
This was such a great hotel. It was right on the water at Copacabana beach. The beach was great (I was told it was one of ... the best in the city). The staff couldn't have been nicer. I needed help with a tour reservation. No problem. I needed an electrical transformer, no problem. The wait staff in the hotel dining room pampered me. I got there super early (8:00 am) and was prepared to wait in the lobby until check-in time, but they let me have my room right away. I also needed to stay seven hours extra on the day I left and they pro-rated the extra time instead of charging me for an entire extra night. In short, I felt very taken care of. This area felt very safe to me, even though I'd been warned how dangerous the city could be. The hotel doesn't seem to be near shopping, but there are lots of restaurants and little bistros, and there's a nightly bazarre down the avenue that starts at 6:00 pm. The hotel has free Wi-fi, a nice roof top sun and lounge area with drinks and food served with a quick phone call downstairs. The pool is small and the fitness area is smallish. The computers in the business center are not free. But these were trivial to me. This hotel made my experience in Rio enjoyable, comfortable, and safe, and was a great home-base in an ideal location.

Alx Aug 11, 2009
Our expectation was higher. We thought it is a 4 star hotel. It is defiantly not a 4 star hotel. However Staff were very ... friendly and helpful with good command of English, which is a rare commodity in Brazil in general. The location is really good and safe. Very beautiful and panoramic view from the roof. Breakfast was good too. The room was very small with a humble furniture.

Hotel met all of my needs : 1) I am single so the small room did not bother me (605) 2) Good Breakfast, excellent service 3) ... Maid service very good 4) Front Desk very professional, Friendly and safety minded 5) Not a place to bring back escorts--too expensive (175 reals) 6) I saw Families with children and they seemed very Happy with the Hotel and Staff 7) Can't beat the location--beautiful views from the roof top, shopping mall right next store, Resturant(Piglett) right next door--excellent food 8) The street you cross to Copabana Beach can really be busy with traffic and the drivers are crazy, but you will get adjusted to it in a day 9) My first time in Rio, Great experience 10) Word of caution--you are in a third world country, plenty of Police all over but DO NOT DO ANYTHING STUPID 11) I had a great vacation, but, its vacations like this where you learn to appreciated coming home to the United States

Great Hotel for the price!
Woody Jul 7, 2009
I read many reviews about Rio and this hotel before I booked my trip. First of all, don't let anyone fool you about Rio, it ... is very safe. My girlfriend and I walked the entire Copacabana beach at night. Just use common sense and you will be ok. The hotel is in a great location right on Copacabana beach and a very short walk to Ipanema beach. The hotel was very clean and provides a complimentary breakfast in the morning which is stocked and actually to my surprize very good. The staff was very good, very friendly and helpful when booking tours and picking places to eat. They did their very best to speak English and were much better than the rest of the city. They remembered me by name and my room number and accomodated to our every needs. We walked in late on night with some pizza and beers, and the staff just sent us plates knives and forks up to our room without us even asking. The only drawback to the hotel is that the basic standard room is extra small. We personally didnt mind since we didnt go to Rio to stay in our room, but the bed was very hard as well. The room tho small was kept immaculate by the cleaning staff, and I personally love hotels that have a deposit safe in the room and this one did. We were disappointed with the pool as well, the roof has great views of the beach, but the pool is the size to accomodate at most 3 people at a time, so we spent no time there. Rio is a great city and I would recommend the Orla to anyone who is looking for a budget room in a great location with a super friendly staff. & I would recommend if that you don't choose the Orla to still pick a hotel on the beach. We didnt visit any other hotels, but walking around the city, its not the cleanest city and the other hotels just didn't seem to be quite in great locations.

The one day in Rio tour is definely worth the money. It was about 190 Reals per person for us, with came out to about $95 per person in American money. The tour was great though. Its takes you up to the Christ statue on Corcovado where you drive through the forest and we got lucky to see lots of monkeys. Then you eat a great Brazilian BBQ lunch(a must do) then ride the cable cars up to Sugar Loaf mountain. If you do one thing in Rio, do this tour.

Orla Hotel - Great Access to Beach.
A man who likes to walk on the beach. Jun 15, 2009
The Orla Hotel was well situated for jaunts along Cocacabana Beach as well as short walks through Ipanema and Leblon. I wish ... we had also known about its proximity to the Metro as well. The rooms are small, and a bit hot, but given the exceptionally low price, that was not surprising. It was clean, the staff was generally responsive and helpful, and as noted, it had a great location. The breakfast was mostly fruit, which was fine, but it could have used a few more items, like yogurt. The gym had a bike and two treadmills, with some weights, which was adequate. More tourist materials at the front desk would have been helpful, as would have a list of recommended restaurants in various categories, as well as nightclubs, museums, etc. If I was to return to Rio on a business trip I would likely stay in a more upscale hotel, but as long as I am paying, the Orla was more than adequate.

Orla Copacabana Review June 2009
TOK Jun 10, 2009
This was a business trip for me. I've stayed in Copacabana beach hotels before and this was the nicest. Room was large, clean ... and a true double-bed, not just two small beds pushed together. I saw other rooms were smaller than the one I got though, so that should be considered when booking. Staff was great. Friendly and very helpful. Wireless was included and worked well. Breakfast was included and very good. Business center had printer problems, but that was the only negative in a weeks stay.

This hotel has perfect location on Copacabana beach, close to Ipanema, shopping, restaurants and is less expensive than most ... Copacabana hotels. The rooms are small with no view, like our room was, but they are clean and comfy and when you are in Rio you don't spend much time in room. View from top floor terrace in worth million dolars! Hotel staff is very friendly and they help you everything you ask for.You have to wait for elevators all the time, but this is not a big problem. When we go to Rio again we like to stay in Orla.

location is excellent, at one end of Copacabana beach. pool is VERY small but one doesn't go to Rio to sit by a pool !!! Good Location-Price
Christopher Apr 21, 2008
I've stayed at this hotel 4 times now. The staff is very good, rooms cleaned daily. The Hotel is right in the middle of ... Copacabana and Impanema beaches, so you can visit either beach within walking distance. The free breakfast buffet is very good. There is also free internet in your room if you bring your laptop. The rooms are modern and basic but very comfortable. You get a mini-bar (items are priced reasonably), cable tv, air conditioning and a safe.

Like being in Ipanema without having to pay for location
Jose Jul 25, 2007
Ipanema is around the corner from the this hotel, which is located in Copacabana South. This is also the safest zone in ... Copa. The Hotel is OK. The standard rooms are small and don't have view of the bay, which is right in front of the hotel (I don't think you get a beach view in this price range anywhere). Bathrooms are very small. But the rooms have everything you need and nothing looks old or ditry. (You get complementary wireless internet, but the service is not reliable, so you better bring your ethernet cable) So the hotel is great if you are planning to spent most of you day out: at Copacabana or Ipanema beaches by day and at Ipanema or even the bars of Lapa in Downtown by night. In synthesis: great location, right in front of the beach, relatively cheap, good facilities though small ones.
