Onyx Boston

This is a cozy hotel just off the main thoroughfares near Faneuil Hall, Government Center, and the North End. There is a T ... stop (subway) right around the corner, so you can get anywhere in Boston easily. The hotel bar was cozy and offered good wines. (We did not eat there, so I cannot comment on the food.) The room was clean and modern. Small by some standards, but a very good size room for Boston. I would definitely stay here again next time I am in Boston.

Onyx is just down the street from North Station - a main public transportation stop, the venue for major sports and other events (circus was in town when we were there) There are quick coffee shops on the same street. The North End is about 10 minute walk away (busy stteets) and has more eating options.

one block to TD Bank North Garden (Celtics). A few blocks walk to the North End and fine italian dining. We even had a lovely walk over to Newbury Street from the hotel.

The location, unless you are wanting to spend your timein Little ITaly, is not very good. The street is under construction ... and is a rather shabby little enclove about 6 blocks from restaurants. The phone in my room did not work andf they could not get it to work. After I was lying in bed watcing TV, a family of four Austrians unlocked my door and entered, and had obviously been given my room (far too small for them! and the key.) The staff were very nice, very apologetic....but three strikes and you're out in my book. Room was VERY small.

Stylish within limits
Judith Oct 14, 2008
The Onyx was very comfortable, stylish, non-generic furnishing and spacious bathroom area. The staff was very friendly and ... energetic, concerned to be helpful. However, we arrived on Sunday evening around 8 PM and most of the restaurants that were open in the area were sports bar-oriented establishments. (This makes sense because the hotel is just down the street from the Boston Garden where Celtics & Bruins play) There was no dining available in the hotel (except room service) at that time because there was a private function in the only eating area. Limitations in finding a convenient place to have a quiet dinner may be as much related to the fact that it was Sunday night as to the location.

We have stayed here several times. The location suites us great for activities at the Garden and dining in the North End. ... The room although some on the small side are very comfortable and bathrooms are a decent size. The beds are very comfortable! The staff is always great - helpful and friendly!! Check in and out has always been very swift. And the wine and cheese service is a delightful touch! Will continue to return in the future.

Friendly staff
Christine May 4, 2008
The staff were great; we live locally but wanted to stay in Boston overnight for an event. We had the hotel car take us to ... the North End, the driver's recommendation for dinner was a better value than expected and exactly the small, authentic italian restaurant we were looking for. Also, the car was quite comparable to a taxi fare but more convenient. We spent our late evening in the hotel bar and really enjoyed the modern atmosphere and the bartender's creativity. The room was very comfortable for the two of us; the bed was huge and so soft and the room was really quiet even though we were next to the elevator. Everything was exceptionally clean and new. When we checked our car in at the front desk the staff told me I should just leave it in the garage until we checked out to avoid some kind of hassle with retrieving it, but we ended up taking the car out several times over the course of the evening without a problem or additional charges. We could have parked nearby for $20, but no ins and outs... Our other criticism is the nickel and diming. We stayed at this hotel hoping to have a romantic evening in Boston, which was achieved, but at every glance in our room there was something tempting with a price tag on it. Why do I want to look at a glass case of potato chips at the end of my bed? But we managed to block the advertising out... We will probably stay here again, maybe with friends. It is convenient to the North End and it was an overall enjoyable experience. Modern and sophisticated and boutiquey.

This is our second stay at the Onyx Hotel. We love the location, decor and especially the exceptional customer service you ... receive from the minute the valet opens your car door until checkout. We love the Ruby Room, however, it closed early on Sunday (over the holiday weekend), but front destk staff were able to make recommendations and as usual, we weren't dissapointed. The only other surprise was the $38 (overnight)parking fee, we weren't expecting, but it's Boston! We can't wait until our next night at the Onxy!

Onyx gets the prize
Finn Apr 22, 2007
It is hard to heap as much praise on the staff of the Onyx without sounding like a paid publicity person. I had arrived ... at the Onyx an hour prior to check in time owing to a change in schedule. The front desk was full of apologies that the room was not yet ready! They were mortified. Gracious it was all I could do to assure them it was OK, was my fault and I would be back after another appointment. On my return the room was ready, again a spate of apologies. The room was very clean, no odours, just perfect. The floor valet was extremely pleasant, very attentive and like all employees we ran into smiling all the time. If the employees are happy it is a sign of good management. As someone who spent many years living in hotels in Switzerland I can honestly say that the Onyx was the best experience in a hotel that I have had. I would, and will stay at the Onyx again and have in fact recommended it already to friends and relations.
