Decent and reasonably priced hotel

Dora the Explorer Oct 8, 2009

This is my second time in Hawaii and for both times I picked Ohana East.. def. love this hotel! Although it is not directly ... located on the beach, it is only about 2 blocks away (less than 10 minutes walk). It is not located on the main, busy Kalakuala street, that means it's not too noisy at night time. Around the corner is Kuhio street where the small, decent, nice and less expensive restaurants are. King's Village is also nearby. It's also half a block away from Food Pantry (the grocery store). Hyatt is also across the street, which is a pick-up location for a lot of tours. They also have complimentary pass for the pink line trolley. I havent really used their pool before. It looks kind of small to me, but when the ocean is a few blocks away, I guess it doesnt really matter. THey also have a jacuzzi in the pool, but again, it's small. The only thing I have complaint about is the bathrooms. The first time I stayed in the hotel, the stand-up shower area (i.e. no tub) is TINY and the bathroom can fit in 1 person at a time. This time the bathroom is bigger because i think it's designed for people with disabilities, and that's also why there's no tub. The ocean view is also only partial (but it's still gorgeous), as the hotel is located behind taller hotel buildings. Some rooms has no views at all. There's also no complimentary breakfast unless you upgrade your room package. I guess if your not too picky about bathrooms and the partial ocean views. This is a great choice of hotel for your stay in Waikiki! I will def. stay there again when I go to Honolulu again!

There are a lot of decent restaurants on Kuhio. They are small, but they are gooood. Some chained coffee shops are also located there. Bento (Japanese lunch in a box) can also be purchased in Food Pantry.

Great location

Kathy Sep 7, 2009

This hotel is in a great location. Just a block from the beach and close to lot's of restaurants and shops. The ... International Marketplace is right next door. The only caveat is that the rooms are small and the beds are uncomfortable. I booked a room with two double beds. The shower is also extremely small. I didn't have too much of a problem with this since I'm a small, petite girl. But I could see this as being an issue for guys or a larger person.

I went to visit my daughter, who lives there. I really felt the workers at the front dest were somewhat jaded and really ... not as helpful as those at ANY other hotel I have stayed at. I did not feel comfortable talking with them at all. The rest of the hotel staff was great, by the way.

great hotel with Excellent staff

The hotel was very centrally located.. close to all amenities. Each floor had it's own personal housekeeper with her/ his ... name where you could find it! We had a 10 month old with us and were given a crib to have in the room at no extra charge. Staff was very curious and friendly! Drawbacks if any.. hotel was older had a bit of a musty smell; and the restaurant staff was a bit grumpy! Other than that it was a great experience and I would definitely recommend this hotel to friends and family!
