The hotel is just ok. This was my 4th trip to Cancun, but the 1st staying in the hotel zone. The food at the buffet was ok, ... nothing too spectacular. There was only 2 other restaurants that you could go to without the black wristband. We went to the Mexican one, the soup was the best part. It was indoors with no air conditioning, and ants running all over the tables. The bartenders were very limited on what the could make, and they do not have a theater to host their night "shows". This hotel was pretty much the bare minimum on everything. I would recommend staying at another resort.

Was worth booking airport transfers through orbitz. Had representetive waiting on arrival to bring us to hotel. Upon ... arrival we were placed in a room with two double beds-musty smelling. Bathroom light did not work. Complained to staff for three days before light was fixed. The three other couples we went with were placed in much nicer rooms. Food was good-Italian restaraunt was the best. Was dissapointed that top shelf liquor was not offered. Needed a black band for top shelf. Was very dissapointed in night pirate show. Boat was over-booked and had to watch show from inside tv screen. Show was not well choreographed. Took the catamaran boat tour/snorkeling to Isla Mijeras island. Trip was well worth the money if you like the ocean, swimming and a good time. Everything is negotiable including tours (pictures, movies, taxis, etc) Take advantage and go to other Oasis resorts to utilize their facilities.

Good Vacation

We've been to many resorts in Cancun and Playa Del Carmen area. This one ranks right up there, Great Resort. Staff was ... friendly and helpful. The food was excellant and selection of choices were good. This resort offers you the freedom to be as active or relaxed as you want. The only downside to this resort were the bars. The lobby bar has a TV which is filled with people watching sports all the time so it is difficult to get close enough to get a drink. Additionally this is the only bar open in the evening and again same story, it is difficult to get service because of crowds and limited seating. They need to keep one of the two pool bars open in the evening, otherwise a great resort. Beach was nice, plenty of lounge chairs. The only thing about the beach is that it is in a protected area so there are no waves. Bring a travel mug with you for drinks, it saves going to the bar often and using the small plastic cups.

Fantastic beach, beach vendors come through all day but very respectful. Definately go to Chichen-Itza but don't book ... Chichen-Itza at hotel, go across the street and don't pay more than $50 bucks pp and this included transportation, lunch and swimming at Senote "under ground caverns. Nightlife is only a couple blocks away. Downtown is quite a long walk and very busy so use the bus (.65 pp)Love the all inclusive part of the hotel but you can't get premium alcohol with your standard wristband or go into certain lounges. Check out how to get an upgrade wristband. Our fridge didn't work and we talked to several other people and theirs didn't work either. Pillows extremely hard. Food was good and a large selection each day. Most relaxing vacation we have ever took. Highly recommended this hotel.

Great hotel and service
Honeymooners Nov 2, 2009
Although there were mixed reviews on an advisor website, we decided to give this hotel a try. This turned out to be a great ... choice! Our room was on the water and the room was huge, as well as the bathroom. Everything was super clean. This hotel is very heavily staffed and the staff are always cleaning and performing grounds maintenance. We stuck with the buffet restaurant for it's wide variety of selections and the food was outstanding, as well as the service. The beach was not overcrowded and there were always chairs available, even under the shade coverings. This hotel is within walking distance to the flea market and Senor Frogs. We did catch a city bus to Playa Turtuga to catch the ferry over to Isla Mujeres, which was also a great day. We also booked a tour for Chitz en itza and we did that through [...] (on the beach). It was much cheaper then booking through the hotel or other services and our tour guide[...]could not have been any better. The only thing that was not included in the all inclusive was coffee/sugar/creamer in the room. The room has a coffee pot, but you don't get the rest. However, the lobby had coffee, pastries and fruit for the early rises (the restaurants open at 7:00 a.m). This was an awsome honeymoon and I would definitely stay at this resort again!

The flea market is a great place to buy souveniers. You can barter with the merchants. We found the Playa del Fiesta very expensive and there is no bartering there.

Great Value for the $ (at least for now)
Frequent Cancun visitor and Oasis guest Oct 28, 2009
I have stayed here multiple times and enjoy this hotel...but I enjoy it because I know exactly where in the hotel I want to ... stay. The staff is pleasant enough but do not go overboard. I prefer the original Oasis Viva Beach rather than the newer Grand Oasis Viva section. Even though the rooms in the original section are somewhat dated and offer few amenities, the view from the balcony overlooking the beach cannot be beat. Also, the old part of he hotel is much quieter and less congested than the newer. Unlike many other Cancun hotels, the Oasis Viva still has a beach. The waters are calm but shallow. The food at the buffet is great...the specialty restaurants are so-so. Having stayed there at least 9 times in the last 3 years, I can honestly say that I've never felt like I didn't have any options at the buffet. My general impression is that tipping is expected, even though the hotel is billed as an all-inclusive.
Traveler type: Friends
Prebook your transfer at least to the hotel. The taxi fare from the airport is government controlled. While hotel and package prices are down--way down--the prices for a taxi from the airport have soared. This time, we were quoted $100 one way to the hotel zone of Cancun (which we eventually negotiated down to $45). This still is high, considering a taxi back to the airport ranges between $20-$25.

Relaxing little resort
Moyski Oct 28, 2009
Check-in was simple. Staff was friendly. Rooms were neat and simple. I thought we were going to have a mini bar but was not ... supplied with one so that was a disappointment. Beach was nice, very low key atmosphere, although I think it could get crazy. No entertainment offered at the resort but a party was planned and offered every night outside of the resort. VERY close (walking distance) to downtown Cancun but far enough away that you don't hear all the craziness if you choose not to. Received a 10% off card upon arrival to be used at local shops and in the spa - no one honored it, that I asked. A pipe broke in the room next-door to us so our room/whole floor flooded and we were not offered any compensation which I thought would of been nice, but they did apologize. Massage was "ok", not very organized. I got a couples massage with some guy in the room, weird. This was a last minute trip, booked the night before and left the next morning, it was just what we needed!

Worst hotel in Cancun
GM Oct 26, 2009
This is our 7th All-Inclusive trip to Mexico so we know what to expect from a supposedly "Three or Four-Star" resort. The ... Oasis Viva Beach would have to struggle to get "One-Star"!The Oasis Viva Beach is the worst hotel in Cancun and probably one of the worst on the planet. The Staff was of no help when trying to work out a problem with the noisy (right outside the elevator) dirty little room they put me in.[...] do not stay at the Oaisi Viva Beach.Lastly, if you stay at any Oasis hotel in Cancun, be prepared to be endlessly harrassed to take the 3 hour (they will tell you it is 90 minutes) Solaris Sells pitch. They are brutal about hounding you througout the pitch.

Great Beach, Rooms, So, So
D & C Oct 23, 2009
We travel to Cancun twice a year and have stayed in lots of hotels. The best feature here is the beach; very calm and steps ... away from the hotel. Our first room smelled, the cold water knob in the tub did not work and we were not asked if we prefered a balcony or not. There were only two towels, no bottled WATER, and no ICE. We had to go to the bar to get ice. We were moved (at our request) to a room with a balcony, which was a little better. The housekeeping staff was very helpful, but its always a bummer when you have to move to another room. We were on standby for half a day, asking as many as five times at the desk about our new room. We walked to Playa Caracol and took the bus to Wal-Mart and took the bus Mercado 28 for great seafood ay Cejas. Would go back to this hotel for the beach and the food and a guarantee that our room had a balcony and everything was working in the room.

Great stay at Oasis Viva!
Carrie Oct 20, 2009
The Oasis Viva is a wonderful place to stay. The smaller size of the resort makes it easy to get where you want to go ... quickly. The rooms are spacious and clean with a very nice sized bathroom. The sand on the beach is powdery soft and beautiful. Most all of the staff are very kind and accomodating. My best friend and I had an excellent stay and would recommend it to others who just want an affordable getaway and don't need all of the bells and whistles.

We had a nice time with our three kids. We had two adjoining rooms. The beach and water were very nice. The outside grill ... was good for a quick lunch. We ate mainly at the buffet, except one meal in the hotel resturant. We did eat out several meals in Cancun. We stayed at the hotel for the cheap price, and the location was good. The staff was ready to please and very nice. They were quick to get things done. I would rate the hotel as good. We have stayed at five other hotels in Playa Del Carmen. We took serval day trips (Isla Mujeres for the dolphin swim), Chichen Itza, and Xel-Ha, which I would all recommend.

This Hotel Rocks!!
Terri Oct 11, 2009
I almost didn't book this hotel because of some of the bad reviews people left. I am now convinced that there are some ... spoiled people in this world. We stayed on the 9th floor, had a beautiful view, nice clean room, friendly staff and GREAT food. This is an inexpensive hotel, but for the price we paid, it was well worth it. Obviously these spoiled people are use to staying at $200 a night hotels. But I question why would they stay at such a inexpensive hotel then complain about everything offered. You get what you paid for?!? But in our case, we paid for less than what we got. Everything from the food, staff, drinks, pool, entertainment, etc. was great. The food was mostly mexican but they did manage to throw some great american favorites in. The hotel's restaurants are good, but the variety they provided at the buffet could be eaten morning, noon, and night. The one thing I did notice...the 9th and 10th floor must have been recently renovated, because they did look the nicest compared to the other floors.
