The bad, the worse and the awful
Dreams Cancun Next Time Guy Nov 3, 2009
I'm a veteran of many an all-inclusive. This place was really poor. The restaurants were awful, no service and food was very ... low quality (exception for the buffet; it was good but the same thing every day). The beach was nice, but the chairs were uncomfortable. No beach drink service; no bars past 11pm and the bars they had have little real booze; the rum is in a bar gun! So, you end up drinking Corona. Anyway, the room has no operational window, so can't enjoy breezes in the room. Rooms are smelly; lots of mildew and broken fixtures, curtains, etc. The Dreams property down the road is WAY better; next time I pony up a few extra bucks. Don't waste your time at this hotel; it ruins the trip. Also, the timeshare people are really really harassing...no means no lady!

OASIS Hotels...The NON All inclusive
All inclusive hunter. Nov 2, 2009
The OASIS hotels are good for price and price only. Upon walking to our room, the big clump of hair in the hall wasn't the ... welcome mat we were expecting. I live in Mexico and go to cancun at least once a month. The Oasis hotels offer a good price, but the "all inclusive" is only half true. Most all inclusives include drinks in your room or at least a fridge. The OASIS chain pulled the fridges out and offer you a package of drinks to buy. Thats ridiculous! If you want a bottle of water they should have them provided. There is also too little staff at the bar, so be patient if you are waiting for a drink. The bartender might have to prepare his bar while the line of people just keeps getting longer. I've stayed in the Viva Beach, Palm Beach, and the Caribbean. The Cribbean is the best and newest. The only reason I stay here is the price, not the quality. If you are going budget and want to sit on a beach, this place is ok. If you want a place with impecable customer service and ammenities, pay a little more and look elsewhere. Overall, I've stayed in about 25 hotels in Cancun and the riviera maya. Just remember, you get what you pay for.

Great Deal for All Inclusive
[...] Oct 24, 2009
This hotel was pretty great. For an All Inclusive I was a little worried how it would turn out considering I spent under ... 600$ round trip for 6 nights. The food was pretty good. There are several options to choose from though I would have thought it being Mexico the Mexican restaurant would have been much better. The Asian/sushi and seafood restaurant by the pool had several options that were good. The alcohol that was part of the inclusive package was ok to say the least. As far as beer well Corona, and more Corona cause that's all they offer which kinda stinks. But on the other hand you can just get drinks of several varieties with liquor(non brand name). So overall I would say that is pretty good. Nightlife: Nightlife outside of the hotel well its Cancun so there's variety of things you can do. All the taxi drivers try to make you pay 10$ U.S which is a rip! You can always haggle a 4$ taxi from the hotel if you walk 100 yrds from the hotel. Or walk about 5 mins an take the bus for less than 4 dollars for four people. O and be sure to try and get some sort of deal as far as transportation from the Airport to the hotel. Apparently they only offer one taxi cab service from the airport to the hotel zone. Otherwise you can take the bus or be a sucker like our group an pay 60$ US.

If you have your own laptop they charge the same for internet service as if you were using their desk top. Refrigerator provided in newer tower but was charged $5 a day for one. Will never return.

The real story about Oasis Palm Beach
PK BROWN Oct 21, 2009
After searching and reading reviews on this hotel here is what we found. We stayed for 6 days. The hotel itself was very ... nice and clean for the most part. The front desk was very business and to the point about additional charges ( in-room safe, room service, phone etc). We had a "lagoon view" room and found it decent. We were surprised that they had no blankets on the bed though. Don't touch the bottled water or you will be charged $3.00 each. Also no ice vending machine and if you want a refer they charge you $5.00 per day. The Mexican service was good but the food was mediocre. The first time we ate there our food was luke warm. The fish tacos were great and the ribs were terrible. The coffee was the best we've ever had. The Asian restaurant was much better but the a/c was off and it was very hot and humid while eating dinner. Because the place was so hot, I had reservation about the raw fish but eat it and enjoyed it anyway. The third restaurant never opened. The buffet was probably the best food at the hotel. Most was Tasteful and served hot. For breakfast, be sure to have the short-order cook you a personalized omelet. They also have a fresh fruit bar but unless you look for it you may not know it's there. The pool-side hamburger stand served fresh and hot burgers w/fries or nachos. Never realized the sushi bar until the last day. The bad points are this: they have a slew of time-share sales staff that make you believe they are hotel staff, they hound you from the moment you get there and will wake you up with phone calls to your room telling you they have a "welcome gift" for you. DON'T BELIEVE THEM! These people are the reason I'm giving the hotel a 3 star instead of 4 stars. The phone situation is also bad. It will cost you $3.00 to make a local 800 free call. Buy phone cards from the local stores and you can use the phones outside the hotel. If you want to rent a car, go to the hertz at Wal-Mart and you can rent one for $22.00 a day w/o insurance. Wal-Mart is a great place for any items you will need. Be carful about where you park the car. We went to Market 28 and ours was broken into and our passports, cameras and other items were stolen. That is a whole other story though and not a very good one. So the bottom line on this place is it's not a 5 star place and it could be a 4 star place if not for the time share sales staff harassing you from the moment you arrive.

When we checked into the Oasis Palm Beach Hotel, we were sent to a room at the Oasis hotel next door. We had to go back to ... the Palm Beach Hotel for all our food, drinks, etc. Our room was very nice and quiet, but a hike to get a drink. The food was great. We snuck a peek at the rooms at the Palm Beach; they were a little smaller but adequate. The Palm Beach hotel was much noisier, more younger people.

Oasis Palm-Beach Excellent stay
Luis Sep 8, 2009
Excellent experience, having read descriptions from previous travelers I was having doubts about booking this hotel. People ... that have a single bad experience criticize the whole trip even though it may have been in part their own fault. If they have a bad flight they blame it on the hotel and everything related to their package. I have had bad experiences with flight on previous packages and I strictly blame it on the airline not the hotel or the package provider. This hotel was excellent for the price you also have to go by the star rating but for a 3 star I would say the room was a bit better than 3 star hotels I have stay in the US. I was traveling with 9 of my family members and they all had a great time and were pleased with the service most of them coming from the hospitality field. The lobby did not have A/C but I guess with the previous loss in tourism they had to make up for lost revenue. Which I was not planning to spend the entire day in the lobby, the rooms were real cold and I had the thermostat to set it which made it comfortable. The bartenders were excellent and if you threw in a tip they were even better, this guys only make 5 dollars a day so they depend on your tips so don't be cheap just tip them and you will have a better service and top shelf liquor with your purple wrist band. We had rooms in the first floor that overlook the beach and the pool so it was great since we all had our own balcony and for approximately $350 per person/ all inclusive package flight/hotel and all you can eat and drink you can beat that at any other hotel. I would highly recommend this hotel. Remember when you are in vacation make the most out of it since is only for a few days. I would also recommend buying your extra activities package from the walmart in downtown Cancun. They are way cheaper than buying it at the hotel or the vendors roaming around the beach. Don't fall for the timeshare opportunities they are not worth taking time out of your vacation experience.

Nightmare Vacation
lee moe and d-reg Sep 7, 2009
This hotel is at a horrible location if you wanted to enjoy the beach. It meets the lagoon so they only have a small section ... where you are able to swim unless you would like to swim in seaweed. First day we were greeted and we checked in with no problems. I was with my 2 other friends and she gave us 3 room cards and 2 towel cards. We didn't make a big deal about the towel cards because we were excited to unpack and get in the pool after our long flight. When we checked out the same lady said we were missing a towel card and we had to pay 15$ for it. The taxi service for the same destination each night varied on how much you had to drink and if you knew any Spanish. We talked to some ladies from the UK who didn't know any Spanish and they were being charged 20$ each time whereas we paid 10-13$ to the strip by the clubs. They buffet is horrible, beach is small, and service is slow. While i was walking to my room i saw a lot of commotion so i turn and a little girl had drowned. They spent about 20minutes giving her CPR and then took out the defibrillators. That made me question the life guards on duty and should be considered if you are bringing family to this hotel. On the strip by the mall they had a money exchange, it was a drive away so we decided to exchange at the hotel. My friend asked to exchange 100$ and at that time the dollar to pesos rate was 1$-13pesos. Well she gave it to us at 11.5 pesos and my friend lost out on about 13$ and i do have the receipt. We asked after she gave us back the money why it didn't add up? (i used a program to check) and she simply said "that's how we do it here" we looked at each other confused and asked her again and then she finally added that there was a fee for the exchange.. this hotel took advantage of us and i would never recommend it to anyone.

Not much shopping that I was interested in, there was a small mall approx 15 minute taxi drive. You can save a lot of money by riding the local bus. If you want to get to Chichen-Itza, Xel-Ha, X-Caret, and etc, take the local R-1 or R-2 bus and go to the "ADO" bus station, which will take you approximately 10 minutes.

Take the local bus downtown to Market 28 for souvenirs & gifts (~7.50 pesos each way, when I went). Many vendors sell the same merchandise. Shop around at different vendors before you buy because everybody will want to give you a "good deal" on what you want. Save money on cab fare by taking the bus into the town of Cancun! Ruta 1 (Route 1) runs north on La Zona Hotelera (Hotel Zone), down the main street (Ave Tulum), past shops, hotels, restaurants and the local bus station. It'll cost you about $7 MXN (about $0.50 USD) and the buses are frequent and fast. Many tourists take the bus and the drivers are helpful, but generally Spanish speaking only (bring a Lonely Planet for help, if you're Spanish-impaired). Buses run south, the other direction, back to your hotel, and will generally drop you off directly across the street from where you caught the bus.

Make activity plans as soon as you arrive; walk to near by vendors to compare prices. Certain off the shore vendors in Isla de Mujeres have more affordable prices. Negotiate prices with vendors, if they want to really sell they will lower their prices.
