Home away from home

Honeymooners Nov 13, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

We chose this place for our honeymoon and we were VERY impressed. It's like having your very own apartment close to the ... attractions. The hot tub is open late and the wildlife is amazing. Housekeeping is not included, but you have your own washer and dryer, dishwasher, vacuum cleaner etc. You can pay extra for housekeeping if you want. The quality of the rooms isn't perfect, they are not brand new or anything but we were very happy to have this little home away from home.

DON'T BELIEVE THE PICTURES

Disneyworld or Bust! Nov 10, 2009

First Disney trip for my daughter. We thought the kitchen would be a money saver. So what went wrong? The fridge froze ... everything(even on lowest setting), the vent above the microwave fell everytime you used it, only the small burners worked on the stove and they sat at a 45 degree angle off the stove, I had to call to get a skillet and what I got was small and pitiful. I asked for trashbags and never got them. Further, the pictures displayed does NOT show the room I got!! It was a box. Living room/small table/kitchen crammed into maybe 150 square feet! Bedroom OK, only one bath. Nothing like the pictures shown. It said climate-controlled pool, so I'm assuming they meant whatever the weather is like outside is the temperature of the pool because it was not heated!!!! All in all, a real let-down.

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!!!!

MAD MOM Nov 9, 2009

The whole description online was a lie. They do NOT provide a shuttle from airport. The shuttle to the theme parks stop at ... 11:30am, although thier check in is 4pm!!! They had HUGE bugs! The safety lock was broke on the door...they never fixed it. The shuttle was late everyday. After waiting 2 hours after the park closed in the dark & cold for them to come. They never said anything about the anemenities at all. I got a recorded message about a place for the movie being switched...what movie??? They had an overly expensive store that was NEVER open!!! The so called other store was 2 miles away. The carpet was dirty. The staff was very uncaring and rude. They kept mentioning that the shuttle was free! Is that why they are always late!!! They ruined my birthday, with the shuttle thing and couldn't care less! They changed my room in the beginning, of course I don't know why??? Which left me a veiw of a dirty fence!!! It was facing NOTHING!!! THEY COST ME SO MUCH EXTRA MONEY BECAUSE OF THIER LIES!!! I had to pay for cabs!!! I should have stayed on the disney property for all of the extra money I spent!!! HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE!!!!! EVEN THE BREAKFAST...WHICH WAS $5.99 WAS HORRIBLE!!! THERE IS NOT EVEN A VENDING MACHINE! The nearest restaurant is 4 blocks away...not on site. After all of my complaining, all the manager [...] could say is all I can do is give you breakfast!! UNBELIEVABLE!!!

Very easy to find from Orlando International Airport. Hotel sits close to all major attractions! When we arrived 2 hours ... before check in time our room was not ready and they quickly moved us to another room. I requested a high chair and pack n play for our room, it wasn't in our room on arrival but by the time I walked back to the room (less than 5 minutes) the pack n play and high chair met me at the door. There were not alot of towels in the room, but when I called for more they arrived within 10 minutes! You have to talk to a rep for the timeshare for your parking pass and I nicely said I didn't want to set up an appt for breakfast and the timeshare speal and that was the end of it. No more pushy phone calls or people bugging you to buy. Overall a good visit!

Oak Plantation is a self serve hotel, in the regard that you do your own cleaning (House keeping). And, if you choose, do ... your own cooking. A general store is convieniently located at the center of the hotel complex of buildings. Doing your own house keeping reduces the price of the stay. You can have cleaning services if you choose, at an extra charge. We found the rooms to be clean and well appointed. The kitchen was very well equipped with dishes, pans and utensels. My bride and I found it to be an Excellent place to stay during our honeymoon.

A FAIR AND HONEST REVIEW........

Coleman Crew Oct 29, 2009

Here is a fair and honest factual review of the resort....simply put..1) If you are going to be spending a lot of time in ... your room expecting to enjoy lots amenities... DO NOT stay here. Reason being, the rooms are NOT that clean (my husband an I had 2 after requesting a new one we moved into a second one. You will most definitely have to clean it before use. They do have an ant problem (a bad one, as in don't leave food on the counter) and the furniture is EXTREMELY OLD and pretty stained. If I were staying with my 5yr old and 8 month old baby I would have been displeased . The refrigerator leaked and the dryer did not work. I can tell the place is having major problems with maintaining the property. 2) HOWEVER..The customer service is WONDERFUL AND THE PEOPLE ARE EXTREMELY FRIENDLY. When I called about the ants they came and sprayed immediately. And honestly I've stayed and Westgate resorts and they have HORRIBLE bugs as well so this seems to be the norm. I also called for new sheets and response time was immediate as well. My hubby and I were in town for a 5 day getaway and did not plan on spending more time in the room than out. Now I will say they have A PLETHORA of things to do right there on the resort for ALL AGES! far better than other resorts I've seen and the outside grounds look great. We were basically there for the parks and we never ate in so it pretty much served the purpose of somewhere to lay our head and take a shower. There is not DVD only VCR but the cable is Great! We did not walk around barefoot because the floors appeared dirty and the carpets need replacing badly (sometimes old looks dirty). [...] I will say if your not that picky and your just coming in town to have a blast outside of your room this will serve the purpose. Again, I would have deemed it not acceptable for my kids and I DEFINITELY would not have my daughter sleeping on that sofa sleeper because it was so old (I didn't unfold it and look at the mattress so I cannot speak to it's condition).Honestly if you don't expect Embassy Suites then you will not be disappointed. I was not angry about the place and I can't say flat out don't stay there; just bear these facts in mind. I might stay there again it just depends on the circumstances of my visit BUT I probably wont.

Nice place, good price.

When first arriving at Oak Plantation resorts I notice that it was quiet, scenic and not to big that you'd get lost trying to ... find your way out. It wasn't apparent at first where it was we were to check in. The building marked Guest Services had a not on it's door that it's location had been changed, so we back tracked a bit. Check in was quick. We were given a complimentary breakfast if we would listen to a sales presentation afterward. The room was a lot nicer than I thought it would be. It had a full kitchen with stove, dishwasher, full sized refrigerator, pantry, and a washer/dryer. The room was decent sized and the pillows had a nice variety to them: one soft, one firm, and one just right:) The bathroom was a bit small but it served its purpose just fine. The carpet looked like it could use a cleaning. The hotel was a comfortable distance from Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure. We also ended up going on a couple of road trips. One of them was to St.Petersburg and to Wakeiva Springs (not sure how it's spelled). Both within 1hr to 2hr drive. The springs was definitely worth it because we got to canoe with alligators. Overall, satisfactory experience and I would go back.

This place was a very nice place with the amenities. We did hear a few planes in the morning but other than that I would ... definitely stay here again. The Charleston room was awesome - 2 bathrooms, lanai, and full kitchen. Also the pool was to die for. I loved the fact you had a bar there as well that serves quick bites to eat. Oh yes, and breakfast to purchase if needed - good value.

Nice family resort

Very nice facility. Check in was a little slow and got fed up waiting for the golf cart to drive us to our room. The room did ... need some repair work and i did point some things out as i did not want to be held responsible. The pool area was fantastic and the tiki bar was a nice addition for adults. The pool was open until 1am which was great after a tiring day at disney. It was a little far from the disney parks and taxis were expensive. They do have a shuttle but it was a pain when you missed it. Mid week we had some people move in above us and they were very noisy. Did not get much sleep. Not sure if it was the thin flooring or just an overweight loud family. Should have complained but did not feel like packing up to change rooms. Ask for top floor when booking. Did have to have bed cover changed as I noticed bodily fluid stains and somebodys dark hair. they did come straight away with a clean cover. I would stay at his facility again but would rent a car to get around. Only a couple of resturants within walking distance.

OK if you can sleep through anything

Gogators Oct 21, 2009

Since it was cheap, it was worth the price. But, it is a little far from Disney and the shuttle is not worth it. We left ... one night early because the beds were so hard. No one could sleep there due to the noise and the lighting outside. The stains on all the furniture were disgusting. We brought our on food already cooked, which was good since the oven didn't work, neither did the remote controls or the dryer. We went out to buy our own toilet paper, paper towels, dish detergent, and paper plates since it was inadequate. One of the bathroom cabinets was broken. Karaoke night kept waking us up.

Great Place to Stay!!

Izzi, Erin and Sassy Oct 20, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

This place was so much more enjoyable than a hotel. We had a full kitchen, so were able to do our own cooking if we had a ... mind to. The rooms were spacious with nice decor, and it really felt like returning home when we would get back from a long day at an amusement park. All our needs were accomodated efficiently and quickly by a very friendly staff. The other guests we spoke with appeared happy to be there, as were we. And why not? It's a great place to spend a week. I hated to leave it.

Would recommend to a friend!

Overall, the trip was very nice. The Resort was better than staying in a hotel. We had the whole small condo, including the ... kitchen and living room area. There were 2 pools and a hot tub. The hot tub needed more water added to it. One pool had cooler water and the other had warmer water, the warmer one tasted nasty like urine or something disgusting. There were many activities within the resort, but we did not partake in any until the last night. The distance from the theme parks, restaurants and shopping was excellent.

Wonderful Value

This place was a wonderful value, probably because it was out of season. I've never gotten so much quality in a room for so ... little money before. We'll be back again when we can stay longer

Avoid Time-share salespitch

Hollywood Oct 19, 2009

Definitely a cut above the standard hotel/motel room options prevalent in Kissimmee/Orlando area -- however, the washer/dryer ... amenities in "Villa" (one-bedroom apartment) were a bit lacking, since the door to the front loading machine was missing. After two days of notifications, staff offered to relocate us to another room. Wound up instead using other on-site laundry facilities during unseasonable hot/humid October instead of comfort of air-conditioned rooms. Front desk staff after-hours noticably light (one person trying to handle many people coming in after Disney parks close for evening). Additionally, sales/marketing staff try to pitch their time-share sales talk much too often -- and then fail to communicate with each other as to who is placed on invited list for complimentary breakfast (finally opted not to participate, due to planned itinerary; still received phone messages for us to meet with them).

Recreation/Attractions hint, Short Drive

Close to Disney, but beware!

Money savers hint, Short Drive

Super Walmart 1 stop light away on main drag, we bought food and made meals in our hotel since we had a kitchen. We also brought a soft sided cooler bag with sandwiches, snacks and water to Disney to save money.

Just a short drive to Walt Disney World.

Dining hint, Short Drive

There are only a couple of resturants within walking distance. A red lobster and ponderosa. Would definatly rent a car so you can explore the many resturants further down the road. Taxis are expensive. We paid $55.00 after missing the shuttle bus!

Bring your own food already prepared so all you have to do is heat it up in the microwave.

Shopping hint, Short Walk

The Bravo Supermarket on 192 just off Hoagland is a sweet place to get groceries. They have a lot of things you won't find at a chain market, and it is only two blocks from the entrance to the plantation.

Ask if the drive that they are on is called by another name. Our hotel was off of Vine Ave. which is also Orange Blossom Drive (farther down) then international drive (farther down yet) and the whole thing was highway 192. Once we found this out it was simple to get around.

Universal Studios is what we did while there...they will take you for free on a shuttle and bring you back if you want

--Floridafan, Lenoir, nc Oct 4, 2009

Time savers hint

If you have a car while at this resort, skip the shuttle and just drive yourself. It's easy to find your way to Disney and after tipping the driver, you don't save all that much money. Just drive yourself and park ($12 at Disney & Seaworld). It's worth it in the end to have your own car at the park and not have to worry about the scheduled shuttle times and a crowded van.

Shopping hint

Buy most what you need before getting to this area of attraction. You will pay a lot more than you think for a small Pizza. Buy your attraction tickets online, it'll cost you less. Express pass is available to speed up your way to a ride.

The driving distance was not to far from Disney World.

Remember the water parks open earlier than theme parks..at 9am, not 10am. Make the effort to get their early before queues build up.
