Overall, I had a positive experience. The train went right past my window, so if you're not used to noise, you might want to ... ask for a room on the other side of the building. I live in a noisy city, however, so the train didn't bother me. The room was bare bones but kept very clean, the staff was friendly, and the location is perfect. As I mentioned, it's right across the street from a major train station and just 2 blocks from Dublin's major bus station, so it's easy to access. The pints at McCoy's (the hotel's bar) are generous and cheap, as well. I would definitely go back.

Great Hotel

This hotel seams to be small from outside but when you get inside you realise that is quiet big. It has 175 beadrooms and is ... well furnished and equipped. It has a gymnasium, sauna, car park and the staff is really friendly and helpful. I have stayed in this hotel before with late rooms and I had the same opinion then as I have now, which confirms that it wasn't a fluke. Very central and close to everything. We will definitely come back.

The Temple Bar area is fantastic! A real Irish experience! Good shopping, great restaurants, and authentic Irish pubs. I would recommend Gogarty's or The Quays. Live entertainment, lively crowds, friendly people. Loads of fun.

We upgraded to a Premier room and we were not sorry. The beds were extremely comfortable and the rooms were luxurious. ... However, ask to stay on the back side of the hotel as the hotel is located across the street from the train station.

The North Star Hotel is a hotel that has history. It has a contemporary feel with friendly staff. The room we stayed in was ... clean and on the whole comfortable however the mattress on our double bed had obviously seen better days as we sank in the middle and found it not so comfy other than that the room was adequately stocked with the usual tea/coffee facilities and on the plus side had a wonderful on suite power shower. As a base to explore Dublin it was ideal as it was very close to the train station (literally across the road) and bus station (around the corner) and was about 15min walk from OConnell street. Temple bar was also only about 20min walk from the hotel. On the whole this hotel was good as a base although we did not sample the food on offer as we were booked in as bed only and felt that 10 euros each a little expensive for just a standard breakfast when you could get the same for less elsewhere. Comparing the North Star to other similar priced hotels my husband and I have stayed in we were a little disappointed it is a fairly comfortable hotel but due to its closeness to the train station some rooms could be noisy.

This hotel is fantastic! The staff was so helpful and so friendly in such a maner that made you feel you are somebody. And we ... were, we were the guests looking for that something away from home. Great location, just beside the train station and luas; we took the luas to the Jervis shopping centre, it made everything so handy! The room was spacious and cozy and the staff was great. We'll definitely come back.

Don't stay near the train tracks.
Irishman_34 Jul 6, 2009
Our first night there was right next to the train tracks. Trains came all throughout the day and night. It sounded horrible. ... No A/C in the room either, so we had to have the window open. After the first night, we changed rooms (for an extra $40) to the renovated part of the hotel, the premier suites. this part of the hotel was night and day compared to the other part. the $40 was worth it. Beware of the tracks. :)

Be careful!
Kathy B Jul 4, 2009
Our room upon check-in was small, no air conditioning, no fan, rock hard bed, no hot water! Just outside the only window was ... a train station, roaring trains and actual shaking of the bed and furniture all night long. Upon complaining the next morning, we were moved to a much nicer room. If the first romm is an indication of how Orbitz customers are treated, I would think twice about booking through Orbitz again. On the plus side, it is convenient to restaurants, bus stops, and Tmple Bar area. Don't miss that!

The Northstar Hotel was an easy 10-15 minute walk from Temple Bar and many of the other sites we wanted to visit. It is also ... very near the financial center, and being on the north side of the Liffy, it was easy to get to and from the airport. The gym was better than most I have found in Europe. I particularly liked the noon-time check-out policy which is much better than the typical 11:00 policy imposed by many hotels. I would definatly stay at the Northstar again.

Be careful walking to and from Temple Bar late in the evning. We did not encounter any problems but Dublin can be a little rough after dark. It is best to walk with someone and stick to well lit streets.

A couple of cautions.......
Leah May 27, 2008
Our room in the North Star Hotel was located street side in the original Georgian building. The Cons: The room was ... small and we had one night without heat and another day without hot water, my son had to take a cold shower. The DART runs directly over the hotel and it could be distracting, but didn't keep us from sleep. The television in our room only had like 4 or 5 channels, we weren't in a lot so it didn't bother us. The Pros: It is located on Amiens Street, situated on the corner with Talbot Street. Talbot Street has a few shops, like shoes, purses, souvenirs, etc. It also runs into O'Connell Street, no more than a 10-15 minute walk. I preferred this location to the busier ones because the entrance to our hotel was never congested and we always had safe easy access to our hotel. The room was small but comfy. I was traveling alone with my 6 year old son so safety was a big thing for me, I felt safe knowing no one could access our floor without a key card. We did not have air conditioning in our room but we did not need it, we ran our heater most of the time. I am from Florida and knew it would be cooler in Dublin but still thought I needed an A/C (just in case), the room was always comfortable. The staff was always friendly and went out of their way to help with any request I had, they also deducted fifty euro from my bill for the heat and hot water issue. All in all we had a really nice stay at the North Star Hotel in Dublin and we would definitely stay there again!
