This hotel has delightful "old-fashioned" atmosphere that once welcomed the English clientele during Paris Belle Epoque. The quests would admire the charm of the waxed wood and the cozy atmosphere in piano-bar. The hotel boasts a stunning position: an exceptional location facing the Louvre on the corner of the Rue Saint Honore, famous for its luxurious windows displays.

The room was kept clean and refreshed. The hotel always had hot water 24 hours. TV worked great. It was pleasant..reminded ... me of a historical stay..if they renovate, the price will go up..so for the price..and location it was good. There was not a clock w/alarm and no hairdryer..otherwise room had a safe..and a fridge..and a grocery store half block away. I enjoyed my stay.

Certainly not a 4 star, but a great deal

The Normandy may have been a 4 Star hotel once upon a time but it's fallen far from that recently. That said, this hotel is ... not as horrific as other reviews might have made it seem. In an effort to keep this review readably short I'll truncate my experience to familiar "pro" and "con" lists. Pros: Location (you're literally a block from The Louvre and the First District is a GREAT place to launch excursions to all points in Paris from), large room, comfortable bed, decent shower, friendly and approachable staff (all of whom spoke English), and- because it bears repeating- location. Cons: Dilapidated state of the room in general (peeling wallpaper, carpeting was musty, furnishings had obvious scuff marks, paint was chipped or peeling on ceilings and shutters), lack of amenities (no hairdryers or irons in standard rooms), intrusive cleaning staff (they woke us up on two separate occasions by barging into the room ignoring the Do Not Disturb sign on the door), no wifi (wifi in the lobby was free- but spotty) If you're an older couple or more accustomed to finer hotels, skip the Normandy as you'll be disappointed. If you're willing to stay in the Normandy- warts and all- as a nice upgrade from a Hostel it offers an incredible and convenient location and probably more than you could find at a comparable price further out from the main attractions. Consider the distance you'll need to travel to your hotel room after wandering around the Louvre for 5+ hours and you'll begin to see that the Normandy Hotel is worth the money... so long as you know what to expect :) tl;dr- It's not a 4 Star Hotel, but it's quite tolerable and the location alone makes up for its shortcomings. Bring earplugs if your room is facing the street and enjoy the 15 minute walk to Île de la Cité!

We walked all over town looking for late night crepes only to return to the hotel and find the perfect restaurant literally across the street. Also found a nice light lunch spot 3 blocks away on a circle and bakery with lines out the door for breakfast.

Great Location and Great Staff!
MGehring Oct 28, 2009
Hotel Normandy has a charm about it because I don't think it has changed much in 50 odd years, aside from the television ... sitting on the mini fridge. The lobby has two grand pianos but no one ever played them and that would have been cool. I was fortunate to have a shower head that was mounted on the wall but my friend had a handheld shower head and no curtain. The paint, on the walls and ceiling showed it's age and was cracked. The dbl bed was hard but I am spoiled with a pillow top at home. The front desk and concierge staff were very helpful and respectful that I spoke little to no French. Breakfast is not worth the price in my opinion. I think they are trying to serve a american style breakfast but fall short. What I would have done for an omelette bar... The hotel needs a renovation. Keep the charm but update everything with a level of class a building with this heritage deserves. Overall it was good but I hate when I see a place that could be so so so much better.

While checking in I submitted my documents and got left standing for about twenty minutes, while the staff decided to take ... care of other business. No attempts to apologize for ignoring me where made either. Over all the staff was not overly friendly. We got the room at the top floor and given that it was a very hot day, had no air conditioning. We got quoted for the breakfast buffet, but the staff did not mention, that the price did not include taxes; something which should have been done, especially since it made a big difference at the end. Really the only good thing to say about this hotel is the super location. But this is just about it.

We really enjoyed this old style hotel. The staff was very helpful and accomodating. It held the charm of yesteryear. My ... 6'2" son was not so enchanted with the daybed and tiny 18th century furniture in the sitting room, but the main bedroom had a king bed with lots of cupboard type closets. Bath was large. I would recommend. The Younger generation looking for internet and such would be happier elsewhere.

The room was large and kept clean by the maids, the price reasonable, and the service efficient. From the Normandy you could ... reach a number of the most famous and beautiful sights by foot, such as the Musee d'Orsay, the Louvre, Champs-Elysees, Notre Dame, the Latin Quarter, and the Opera; or use the nearby MET and RER to carry you in every direction from the Charles de Gaulle Airport to the Palace of Versailles or the Loire Valley. We highly recommend this hotel.

Great Hotel!
Holden Aug 4, 2009
We had a great stay at the Hotel Normandy. From one of our 6th floor balconies (we had 2 of them), we could see Notre Dame, ... the Eiffel Tower and of course, the Louvre. The hotel is obviously old, but that is what makes it so special. Our room was perfect, chipped paint and all...it had wonderful character and charm. We lucked up by asking the desk attendant to check out the available rooms first. She showed us three rooms and we picked the one with the most space and best views. I will stay there again.

Great location but room needs help
Meg Jul 29, 2009
I stayed in this hotel in 2003 and had two very large room air conditioned room with a window overlooking the street. The ... location was within walking distance of many attractions. For instance, it is two blocks from Louvre entrance. In July, 2009 I booked two rooms due to it's location. Due to the comments listed by Orbitz customers, I chose the upgraded option. One room had a street view, small room, and a fan...no air conditioning. In order to recharge the camera either the fan or lamp needed to be unpluged. The second room was larger, faced and interior courtyard (alley), and had a floor unit air conditioner. Neither of the rooms was anything like the room I had on the earlier visit. I commented to the staff on the difference in rooms from my previous visit and the explanation was that they had only a few room like the one I had stayed in before. I also asked whether the rooms were an upgraded version and was told that all the room were superior, etc. I also viewed several other rooms that were worse than the ones we settled on. Stay here only for the location!

Dr. M Jul 15, 2009
This hotel is in an excellent location, right across the street from the Louvre and the Louvre Carousel, however, the rooms ... in the hotel are in serious need of a make over. The hotel is a charming old hotel with antique furniture in the bedrooms. I think it is possible for this hotel to retain its antique charm while making some modern updates. As a result, this room appeared dirty, dingy and old. The bed was very uncomfortable and it was impossible to take a shower due to problems with the water temperature. The water was either scalding hot or freezing cold. This hotel, in general, was the worst we stayed at during our 3 weeks in Europe. It is definately not worth the money, you are paying for the location.

The Normandy is a wonderful hotel, not too fancy, not too plain. The marble and wood entrance, beautiful winding staircase ... greet you along with a very frielndly helpful staff. Location close to Louve. The room has the charm of a hotel room you might expect in the 1930's. Large enough, good size bathroom with old fashioned large swing windows, small crystal chandelere, and radiator. The bed was a regular for two female friends that looked as if it was sinking in the middle. We were able to get a day bed (twin size) that tilted slightly to one side. Still we were comfortable. It was clean and quaint. With an investment in new mattresses, I think it would be an excellent choice.
