Great hotel & beach, far frm South Beach
Eileen Nov 17, 2009
Overall, the hotel and beach were great. We went as a group of girls looking for a beachy weekend getaway. The room was ... clean, daily housekeeping services kept it in good shape. The front desk had NO good recommendations for clubs or restaurants though (the first night we were there and asked for good restaurants in the area, they suggested a chinese buffet across the street), so make sure you look up some good places before you leave. The beach was beautiful, but since the hotel is surrounded by huge high rise hotels, certain areas were fully shaded by 2pm. After the first day, you learn exactly where to go to stay in the sun until sunset. Apparently we paid for the cheapest room possible, because it didn't even have a window! We didn't plan on spending much time in the room, though, so it was fine. Only complaint: the hotel is located in Sunny Isles, which is a 20 minute cab ride (about $25-30) to South Beach. For the dirt cheap price, this hotel is definitely worth a try.

DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES STAY HERE
Frequent Traveler Nov 17, 2009
Called three days prior to my arrival and they could not find my reservation, because they had my name spelled wrong. No big ... deal, it was taken care of and I was assured I would have no problem with my late arrival (around 10 - 11PM). Went to check in at 10:30 and the lobby and bar area was hopping. So I was exited and thought some of the several bad reviews were wrong about this place. After a long flight, my family was looking to get into our room and get some shut-eye. Well, that optimism quickly soured when upon check in we were informed that they were under renevation and have no rooms available. All I could think of was the Seinfeld epsiode when Jerry told the clerk at the car rental place who did not have a car for him say that "taking the reservation is easy, anyone could take a reservation, It's holding the reservation, that's the key." We were told we would have to move to a Holiday Inn seven miles away. We were not the only family this happened to and the couple behind us could not beleive it either. Can you say overbooked, eventhough they claim it's due to renovations. I don't manage a hotel for a living but renvoated rooms should not be considered available when making a reservation. Refer to Hotel Managment 101. The clerk said no manager was available to talk to and we would have to call him the next day. He said we have no choice but to head to the Holiday Inn if we wanted a room to stay. He handed us a letter to give to them. After reviewing it, it was only for two nights and our trip was for three. I was told I would have to come back to their hotel the last night. Unbelievable! Oh, and for our incovenience, he said the manager authorized for free parking and hand wrote it on the letter in front of me. Wow! Needless to say we never went back for the last night and forced the Holiday Inn to please keep us the last night. My family and I travel quite a bit and never had a situation like this before. I would never recommend anyone to make a reservation at Newport Beachside Resort. I was enticed into the low room rate especially for a beachside hotel and it came to bite me in the butt. We met some individuals who did happen to stay their over the weekend and had a terrible time with noise and the cleanliness of the rooms. Eventhough it was a mojor inconvenience, I am glad we did not stay at the Newport Beachside Resort and strongly recommend everyone to stay somewhere else and don't be fooled by the low room rate. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!

There are two negative things I have to say about the hotel: 1) The male staff are not personable, and seem very unhappy or ... rude..I could not tell. 2) Asking for an extended checkout time isnt possible.

poor experience
[...] Nov 16, 2009
the Hotel was overbooked and we were not able to get our room for the first night. we were told to go 25 minutes away to a ... Holiday inn! We insisted this was not what we had paid for. Finally after half an hour of trying, we were given one night at a Hotel 5 minutes away. The Night Manager was very friendly, however events seem to have overpassed him. we called the Hotel the following day and we were able to move into the Hotel for the remaining two nights of our stay. Sadly, things did not go well at the hotel. i hope this was just a one off bad experience, and not a manner in which they run the Hotel!

Loved the hotel, the staff was great!
karen Nov 15, 2009
we all were very happy with the hotel. [...] was very helpful with activities in the area and places to go. [...] at the ... front desk was so nice, we arrived early and he found us a room. [...]the hostess at the restaurant was very nice and accomodating when we forgot to make reservations. The food at the restaurant was delicious. They had evening activities in the lobby that were run by young adults that were silly and fun. It was enjoyable. The tiki bar is perfect the bartender was very nice she let us know of places to go in the area. loved the landscaping and the beach, the only thing that they should do is move the beach chairs to another spot. they were in the middle of the beach area blocking the view of the water. other than that it was a nice stay and the hotel was clean and the decor was kept up nicely. They were in the process of renovating which did not affect us at all. Did not know dogs were allowed and we could smell the dogs on our floor #5, maybe they should only allow on one floor. but besides that We thought the people at the hotel all were very nice. we would go back again.

Miffed Nov 14, 2009
Where do I start??? The ONLY thing good about this place was the view of the ocean. Overall, the front desk and management ... staff were NOT friendly. The hotel was noisy, not only from the groups that were there, but also from the construction they were doing on a room near me. Add onto this the fact that the construction workers were using the three guest elevators and making a HUGE mess everywhere! They even took stinky, smelly trash out using these elevators. And I wasn't the only guest that noticed! The room I stayed in had been refurbished (so they said), but the carpet was dirty, stained, and looked like it had been there since the 80's. Find another place to stay!!

Quick Trip Nov 11, 2009
First I was given a nice renovated room on the third floor. When I got to the room it was occuppied. I called down to let ... them know it was occuppied the staff did not beleive me. I had to call a few times to convience them. Then I was sent to a room on the 8th floor. It was small and smelly I had to ask for another room. Then I was moved to another room that was even worse than the one before. When I asked for a room like the first one they said they only had these two rooms only. Mind you the hotel was not very full and was not at capacity.

Spent 4 days here from Novemeber 2 -6, 2009. The hotels location is superb and stay was cheap (~70 per night), especially ... compared to ultra-luxury resorts like Trump International and Le Meridien just down the road. I booked a single room but when i arrived they upgraded me to a suite with city view free of charge! Rooms were nice and clean if slightly outdated but you don't go to Miami Beach primarily for hotel accomodations. Valet parking avaiable at hotel for $15 per night or $10 if you wanna self-park right across the street.

I stayed here this past weekend I and was very concerned based on the previous reviews posted on [...]. I actually wanted to ... change my hotel but I'm glad I didn't. The front desk staff was very friendly, we were there early & our room was not ready but I was allowed to see the room to make sure it was to my liking, it was a bit outdated but nice. We left our bags @ concierge desk and I was told to come back in 1 hr, we were gone for more than 2hrs we were told the room was ready and when we got upstairs it wasn't. The house keeper was in there she was really nice we told her we were going to the beach and she assured that the room would be ready upon our return and it was. I would recommend booking a suite, our view was great we were able to see the pool area as well as the beach. As mentioned by previous visitors, there is a $15.00 a day valet parking fee as well as a $10.00 daily resort fee. This hotel seemed to be very kid friendly and I would definitely visit again. The only thing is I wish the resort was a little closer to south beach.
