Fairly decent hotel at reasonable price

Occasional Traveler Nov 17, 2009

Hotel price was decent but room wasn't as nice as we had expected. The room was clean but furnishings were average. The ... beds were small and not very comfortable. Housekeeping service was good. Compared to other hotels we've stayed at on the Vegas strip, this was at or below average. The restaurants/bars and casino were great though.

Great front desk staff and bell people. The America restaurant is open 24 hours and have a great staff. I love the location, ... it is near all the major attractions. Very family friendly. The bad TV and weak remote are a minus for family travelers. The batchroom was adequate, but definitely nothing to write home about. All in all, I will easily reccomend it to my friends.

Fun hotel, great location

Bill Nov 14, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

This hotel is in nearly the best location in Las Vegas, across from MGM Grand [which seems to always have the shows I want to ... see, and great restaurants] and handy to other top resorts. New York New York is owned by the same company as MGM Grand, so if you get a casino card, it'll work in both places and some other resorts too. Had fun in the casino, played in the twice-weekly blackjack tournament. Upside: Empty fitness center -- on my two late-afternoon visits to lift weights, I had the run of the place. Treadmills, stationary bikes and cross-trainers were unused. Staff said this was normal -- I guess people aren't into fitness. Good for me, though. I had the excellent sauna and steam room to myself. Was too cool in second week of November for the pool, though it was open. Pool looked only average-size for Las Vegas; maybe this hotel isn't the place to go if the pool is your main thing. Downside: Thin walls in hotel rooms aggravating if your neighbors want to party at 4 a.m. And I wish hotels would knock it off with stuff like the mandatory daily $3 "phone charge" -- just fold it into the price of the room, OK? If you want to pay more, NY NY has an optional daily $7 "resort fee" that covers the phone, a daily newspaper and some other items; I skipped it.

Recreation/Attractions hint, Short Drive

I'm a cyclist, and on two days I rented a bicycle from Las Vegas Cyclery on West Charleston Blvd., about 8-9 miles from the hotel. There's a great loop ride, about 33 miles, from the bike shop out to Red Rock Canyon and back. Rental cost is about $60 a day for a speedy carbon racing bike; they'll rent a helmet too [I brought my own]. If you don't bike, Red Rock and Valley of Fire State Park are worth the trip by car; both places also have good, easy day hikes.

Nice but not the best.

Under enthused purchaser Nov 12, 2009

First, I need to start with my missing complmentry champaine. Also, what is the point in paying a resort fee when you still ... cant use the amenities like the gym. We were told that we had to pay an extra 25 dollars just to use the fitness room. The room was nice and relaxing but beside the hot tube in the room, it was just a nice standard room instead of being a suit. The hot tube was wonderful and the service was great. Also the hotel was very nice, with all of their resturants and fast food selections. For the price, I had a better stay at planet hollywood or even excaliber. The beds were not very comfortable. I Would go again if they were having specials or discounts, otherwise I wouldnt pay full price for this overpriced hotel.

This hotel is one of the best on the strip! The location is great and the atmosphere of the hotel is fantastic! Very clean ... and the rooms where away from the casino so in the evening sleeping was peaceful. The rooms are very clean but pretty simple however all you need since most of your time is spent outside of the room in a city like this.

When you check in ask if they have any free upgrades instead of paying for a better room in advance. We had three couples and all got upgraded. In this economy they are not selling out and glad to have you there! Also if you want to see a show use the cheap ticket booths along the strip the day of and save 30 - 40% on your tickets.

Higher Expectations

Disguested with Room! Nov 10, 2009

I was debating back and forth whether I would go with the NY NY Hotel or the Paris Hotel and I wish I would have went with my ... husband and chose the Paris. The hotel room was not what I expected. We had the 3rd room from the least expensive and on the internet, the pics were beautiful of the room. When we got there, I hated the marbel tile which was one of the features I liked on the internet. The tub wasn't the cleanest. I could still see a ring around the tub. It looked a lot more spacious online. Next time, if I come back to Vegas, we will be staying at the Paris Hotel. All of our military friends told us to go with that one and one of the factors that pushed me to choose NY NY was the rollercoaster and how nice the room looked online. DO NOT choose this hotel unless you are getting THE MOST expensive room and I'm only guessing it's probably really nice bc of the cost. I paid more then the lowest room and was VERY dissatisfied.

NICKLE AND DIMED TO DEATH!

Camo Nov 7, 2009

NICKLE AND DIMED TO DEATH! EVERYONE EXPECTED A HANDOUT AND DIDN'T DO ANYTHING OUTSIDE OF THEIR JOB TO DESERVE A TIP. ... Furthermore, we showed up about 3pm for check-in and our room wasn't ready. Stopped back later and they had to "bend over backwards" to accommodate us like they were doing us a favor. When gambling, we barely ever saw the server for our "on the house drinks". LAME!!! They also charged us $6.00 when we checked in for "telephone service" that we didn't even use once. Internet service is $14.00 a day. Stay away!!!

Money savers hint, In Hotel

always ask for an upgrade. We got two nights for free and had to pay $15 for the other one.

--danny, milwaukee Nov 18, 2009

Money savers hint

Rent a car! There is so much to see off the strip.

--Terri, New York Nov 16, 2009

Nightlife hint, In Hotel

Don't waste your time at the Rok night club. Go elsewhere for your Vegas club experience.

--Dre' T., Oakley, CA Nov 16, 2009

Register first to get any coupons for free items and discount offers to be used during your stay before you do anything

--Rissa, Elkhart, IN Nov 13, 2009

Dining hint, In Hotel

If you choose not to, you really dont have to leave this hotel to get all the things you want. It really has all kinds of stores, shopping, and food all in one place. As well as having a childrens area right in the casino that takes up a whole floor.

--Under enthused purchaser, palmdale, ca Nov 12, 2009

Money savers hint, In Hotel

When you check in ask if they have any free upgrades instead of paying for a better room in advance. We had three couples and all got upgraded. In this economy they are not selling out and glad to have you there! Also if you want to see a show use the cheap ticket booths along the strip the day of and save 30 - 40% on your tickets.

--Vegas First Timer, Cincinnati, OH Nov 11, 2009

Entertainment hint, Short Walk

Use the half price ticket shops located along the strip and it will save you some money.

Found an excellent Italian restaurant 1 mile off the strip. "Sergios" Best food and service I've recieved in my 6 trips to vegas! Highly recommend!

--MockDaDDY, Lowell, AR Nov 7, 2009

Money savers hint, In Hotel

The America Restaurant in the hotel has excellent prices for their food of which they serve very generous portions. Good eats for cheap.

--Tabby, Washington DC Nov 5, 2009

Money savers hint

Make sure to either book packages with coupons or insentives anything that saves you is a great deal. For Women, make sure to carry your nice heals in a big hand bag and walk around in flip flops, really it will save your feet and you dont want to walk the streets bare foot.

--Kayla A., Denver, Colorado Nov 3, 2009

Shopping hint, Short Walk

Just a short walk for the hotel are lots of discount stores. We found it alot cheaper than any place else.

--gators fan, Huntsville, AL Nov 2, 2009

Dining hint, In Hotel

Do not eat at the Pizza joint. Just plain horrible food. We tried to eat at the other restaurants but they closed too early.

--Kimo, Anaheim, CA Nov 2, 2009

Entertainment hint, Short Walk

There's a food court across the street next to the MGM Grand that will save you a ton of $$$ versus eating at the casino(s). Cross the bridge to MGM, then again to Tropicana for a better Player's Club, gambling experience, and better luck on the slots.

--New Mexico Roamer, Albuquerque, NM Oct 31, 2009

Time savers hint, Short Walk

Utilize the Monorail system. From New York New York, use the walkway through the MGM casino. Follow the signs to the Monorail. Depending on how long you are there, get an all day pass or multi-day passes. Ride the Monorail to your destination and walk back, or get on and off. The strip takes so much longer to walk than you think! Or from any hotel lobby, catch a cab, it will save tons of time and the drivers are all very nice. The bus that runs along the strip is okay, however there are so many stops, it takes a long time. The buses are very jerky, I wouldn't do it again.

--Donna, Normal, IL Oct 31, 2009

Money savers hint

They hand out lots of coupons inside hotels and on the strip. If you weed out some sales solicitations, you can get some good deals. My fiance and I ended up with 2 for 1 show tickets. We bought the cheapest seats in the house... and the ushers ended up moving us up to the 6th row. It was a Wednesday night show and definitely not sold out. We also ended up with VIP tickets to a night club...by just taking a coupon someone offered at a hotel.

--Jacqueline, Soon-to-be-marrried, Denver, CO Oct 30, 2009

Dining hint, In Hotel

Eat breakfast at America -- relatively cheap compared to other sit down places in hotel and the food was good, hot and they gave us a small carafe of coffee for the table.

--Moe5155, Dayton, OH Oct 29, 2009

Time savers hint, Short Walk

Use the Duce bus tranportation. Its a $7.00 per 24 hour per person or $3.00 per person one way. The bus rides up and down the strip 24-7-365 days a year. Short wait times at stops. You can go from the old strip all the way up to Mandalay Bay. There are other stops along the way for transfers to airport or other malls and casinos off of the strip
