Great hotel for the money

Sandi Nov 9, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

The only bad experience was that the first night we ended up with a free "upgrade" to a fabulous suite on the 12th floor. The ... bad thing is that is was a smoking room and smelled awful. We asked to change and they claimed to have no other rooms available, despite the fact that we had reserved a non-smoking room. The upshot was we got very little sleep because the smell was everywhere. We were able to switch to a non-smoking suite the next day. Lesson - check in is at 2 p.m. Don't try to check in early (we arrived at noon). They will store your bags but you will end up with whatever is left if you show up at 10 p.m. as we did.

Hommie! Love it!

I am a photographer. I was in the city for the fashion week. I stayed in this cozy hotel for five nights all by myself. I ... think the hotel was an apartment building before. The room has everything that a home should have! Even kitchen with cooking tools! Although I don't really cook here, but it makes feel nice. The carpet in the hallway is very clean. The location is relatively quiet but only 3 or 4 blocks away from park ave and 5th ave. I like this place very much. It's a great place to stay when travel in the big apple. One serious bad thing though, there's no wifi service in the room. Free wifi in the lobby but constantly gets disconnected. Please fix it!

Convenient, comfortable, and cheap.

SN Sep 8, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

I spent the weekend in NYC with two friends from college and since we're used to crashing on floors and couches on a regular ... basis, we weren't expecting much for the price we paid for the room. Let me just say that we were very pleasantly surprised by this hotel. We shared a junior suite and there was more than enough room for the three of us. The room was spotlessly clean and comfortable, the water pressure in the shower was FANTASTIC and the hotel is located on a very quiet street. The kitchenette was perfect for storing alcohol and leftovers. As many people have already said, the rooms are a little dated, but that was only a minor drawback that didn't really matter to us. Some people might be annoyed that Times Square is about 10-15 minutes away on foot, but, again, it didn't bother us and it's definitely doable if you don't have anyone in your group with mobility issues. If you're young, traveling with friends, looking for something cheap, don't need many amenities and don't plan on doing much in the room besides showering and sleeping, this is the perfect place for you.

Every kind of restaurant, cafe, and deli is within three or four blocks of the hotel. There's a fantastic grocery store around the corner and a nice wine/liquor shop about two blocks away, too. If, for whatever reason, none of the restaurants around the hotel appeal to you, check out Grand Central. There are a bunch of great places to eat in there, plus the building is incredible and it's worth a visit for that reason alone.

Awful

Jill Sep 6, 2009

The television, which we might have lived with, was substandard, and couldn't be seen from the bed, which we also might have ... lived with. There was no wifi (unheard of in this day and age) except in the lobby, which we reluctantly were living with. The water in the shower didn't stay the same temperature for more than 30 seconds, which we also might have lived with. But the blanket had stains [...]-distusting--and that we couldn't live with. We called the front desk, but because it was after 11:30 pm, the desk clerk said he couldn't bring us up a clean one but wanted us to come down. We refused. The next morning we spoke with the day supervisor who was very sweet and understood why we left. We did not have to pay for the stay, which was also nice. But I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone, even if they upgrade and get wifi. Unsanitary conditions are beyond the pale.

This hotel was perfect. It was a decent distance from the busy-ness of Times Square, Herald Square, etc and every night when ... we returned, we appreciated the tree-lined streets and less bustle in the neighbourhood. There were many delicatessants and grocery stores nearby where we could pick up breakfast supplies for the morning and snacks. The kitchen in the suite was really a plus!!!! (I love my coffee first thing in the morning.) The suites were large and kept very clean. The price point was perfect! I would definitely return to this hotel on my return visit.

Nice

Nancy & The Girls May 2, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

We did a lot of sightseeing, and found the hotel was a convenient location. It's not a bad walk to Time Square, maybe 15 ... minutes. The sofa bed needs a new mattress, it was thin & uncomfortable...therefore had to sleep on it un-opened. The Air Conditioner hadn't been turned on yet (in late April), even with the 90 degree weather. Thankfully it cooled down in the evenings when we were in the room. With the provided a fan it was bearable. The shower was great in the Junior Suite! We liked that the hotel was in a quiet neighborhood, yet close to Times Square. With three friends the room was roomy enough. We liked visiting St. Paul's Chapel across the street from Ground Zero. Lots of info. and history. The top of the Rockefeller Center has a great view of the city! It was helpful that they stored our luggage the last day until we needed to leave for the airport. We didn't need amenities, just a very clean comfortable place, so we'd definitely stay at Murray Hill East Hotel again!

Zarela's has delicious Mexican food, and about a 12 minute walk. Frontier Restaurant was very close & a nice diner for breakfast or late evening dessert, also there is a very nice supermarket across the street from it with everything you could need, should you decide to cook. Grand Central also has several places to dine, if you need something quick and not fancy.

Dining hint, Short Walk

Zarela's has delicious Mexican food, and about a 12 minute walk. Frontier Restaurant was very close & a nice diner for breakfast or late evening dessert, also there is a very nice supermarket across the street from it with everything you could need, should you decide to cook. Grand Central also has several places to dine, if you need something quick and not fancy.
