You get what you pay for
Michelle Sep 7, 2009
My boyfriend and I went there to see the Jays/Yankees game. The staff was nice but the rooms were extremely small. There ... was nothing special about the rooms, but I guess when you pay $100 for a room what do you expect. The room was clean, I can say that much. The air conditioning was VERY noisy. We ended up turning it off because we could not sleep. Also, you have to pay to park your car...its $10/day. The location was not bad. It is only a mile from the Rogers Centre. If you are looking for just some place to stay it is not bad, but if you are looking for a more romantic weekend I would stay some place else. We ended up going to the SOHO Metropolitian by accident, which was VERY nice, however parking was $30/day. It was only a block away from Rogers. You get what you pay for.

Couples week-end getaway
Thirty-something, Married, no kids Sep 7, 2009
We stayed at the Metropolitan hotel for three nights. While in Toronto we went to two Yankees vs. Blue Jays baseball games, ... shopped, and went to a Killers concert. The hotel was about a 15 minute walk to the Rogers centre (we had amazing weather!!) and about 5-10 minute walk to the Eaton centre. We enjoyed our short commute and loved how centrally located our hotel was. The hotel was clean, comfortable and had plenty of space for the two of us. We had called ahead and asked for a higher story room and we were accommodated (we did not have a view of the CN tower, that would have cost an extra $30 per night). We did not eat in the hotel restaurant but it seemed nice. The hotel did provide a discount for eating there. There are plenty of coffee shops and markets within a five minute walk of the hotel so we were never hungry. The hotel does provide bottled water for each guest per night. This service is included with a $9 service fee per night; which also includes use of the fitness room and pool. We didn't use these services. This hotel was comparable to many 3 star hotels. Nice staff, clean rooms, good service. There is also a $20 per day parking charge. We left the car in the garage all week-end. We walked to the stadium, yonge street, Eaton centre, the Entertainment district, Kensington market, and Chinatown. We took a cab to the Molson Amphitheatre for the concert ($20 one way).

Great Location and Nice Hotel
EugeneTravel Sep 7, 2009
I like this hotel. FOr 2 adults and 1 children we had a King bed on 19th floor. The room was comnfortable and had a good ... working aircondition. The rooms were clean, but bathroom is a little bit outdated. Pool was oggd to fit kids and adults. The fitness center also has sauna and small whirlpool. The parking garage is small and the only drawback to the hotel. But you can ask for voley servise.

I'd do it again
infrequent traveler Aug 19, 2009
My boyfriend and I decided to take an overnight trip to Toronto and found the best deal was the Metropolitan. The location ... was awesome! Right in the heart of downtown, the room was a bit small but very clean and welcoming. The staff was very friendly and helpful. There were 3 issues in the actual room: the air conditioner didn't cool the room at all (& it was 90 degrees that weekend), one of the phones didn't work (luckily there were two others), and we were unable to connect to their wifi :o(

Great for business and/or vacation
Dana Aug 10, 2009
This hotel was great in reference to location to the down town area and transportation routes, and to a park where you could ... enjoy entertainment, scenery or a time to read and meditate. Food and services were excellent. Rooms were small but comfortable. The least thing I like about the room was the old air conditioner that did not allow for a balanced cooling system.

Kid Doc Aug 2, 2009
I stayed here for an interview at the nearby Hospital for Sick Kids. The hotel was in a great location for that purpose. ... The lobby is bare bones without much area for sitting or congregating. I didn't eat or drink at the available restaurants. The room was a little outdated but fresh, comfortable, and clean. I had no particular problems with the hotel at all, but it's not quite as sleek as the website would have you believe. Guests were quite noisy.

Efficient, elegant service
Dim Sum Seeker Jun 7, 2009
Arrived for a weekend anniversary getaway. Parked early in the the hotel garage, walked around Toronto, and desk staff ... validated our parking ticket as if we'd just checked in at 3pm. Upgraded to king-sized bed for free, desk staff very courteous. Rooms (and hotel in general) have a minimalist, lightly Asian flair to them. Only complaints are somewhat ridiculous on-demand movie rates ($14 for releases already on DVD? Please), and a mandatory "facilities" fee that applies whether you ever step foot in their pool/sauna/whatever. On the whole, though, a worthwhile stay--especially if you're planning to hit Lai Wah Heen for dim sum.

Good location, RUDE doorperson! Just ok
Cassie Mar 3, 2009
Good: Underground Parking, even though it's $20 a day. (Though avoid the doorman! See the 'bad' below) Easy to locate ... hotel. Good location- close to university and St. Patrick Subway stop. Walking distance to Eaton Center (but I wouldn't recommend it as a must see because it wasn't all that great. Just huge with lots of mid-level shops...mostly ones I don't shop in) There was a very nice guy at the desk who made great recommendations. Not the concierge, but one of the check-in guys! He was the exception to the staff rating. The price of the room was good for the location. Got a discount on Orbitz and I looked online for an additional coupon. Make sure you check for coupons online to be used on Orbitz before you book! Saved us $40. The closet space was okay (though small) for our purposes, since we were only there 3 days. They had an iron and full size ironing board crammed in there, which was nice too. Hairdryer in the bathroom. Great toiletries--smelled great. The bathroom was nice and big. Though I noticed in the King size bed rooms, the bathroom was smaller as was the closet, to accomodate the larger bed. The sheets were soft and there was a down comforter. The pillows were amazing. I should have stolen one. :-) The Bad: Worst experience the entire weekend was with the doorman. My inlaws went to park there car and I was standing at their window. We'd already parked in the garage downstairs and I was giving them instructions on how to do it. The doorman approached and I said they were just going down to park and my husband was going with them. Before I knew it he screamed, "So you don't want directions!?!!? Fine!!!" and walked off and kept cursing us. I mean, it was completely uncalled for and I'm not sure why he flipped out. But I was really shocked at how rude he was--to a customer who had just arrived! I should have asked for his manager, but I just blew it off. Upon thinking about it, I regretted not doing so, but I did fill out the comment card. The room was definitely tiny, but that didn't bother us much. We were really only there to get a great location at a good price and we weren't spending much time in the room anyway. This is kind of a no frills place, definitely catering to business travelers. Also, we didn't touch the phone or internet b/c I think you pay an outrageous flat fee for use. I think free wi-fi should really be standard in these hotels, especially for business travelers! And no business center to my knowledge. The gym was pretty small and the pool was kind of green so I didn't venture in. They had a hot tub, but the temperature probably wasn't above 98-100 degrees. And we couldn't run the jets because they spewed water straight up into the air all around. It was kind of insane how water was going everywhere. The temperature in the room was pretty easy to regulate, but in summer it might be a different story. Our TV made a HORRIBLE HIGH PITCHED NOISE. We arrived so late on the first night that we didn't notice it until the second day and thought it wasn't a big deal, but really, it was so annoying we should have just switched rooms. But we'd already unpacked. We had no headboard. I noticed that, not sure if that's the case with all the Queen Rooms. King size room had one. There was a room service tray across the hall that was not picked up for 2 days. really gross since it had fruit just sitting out there decaying on it. The restaurant (hemisphere's) breakfast buffet was just sort of average and not worth the price tag. (Go to Cora's over near Spadina for a great unique breakfast experience or go to 'Over Easy' near the Royal Ontario Museum on Bloor St.) I didn't have dinner there, but it didn't appear all that appetizing, even though there are some 5 Diamond Awards on the wall. ----- All that being said, Toronto is the main attraction. It was a blizzard, freezing and the middle of February and I still had a great time in Toronto. Not sure if I'll stay here again, but for the right pr...

Looks Upscale Inside, Price Shows It
Taylor Aug 24, 2008
They charged 10 bucks a day to use internet in the room, and the room was sort of small, like it was more for a businessman ... staying alone. There were 2 of us looking for a more private stay, but it was still comfortable and satisfactory, just not above expectations. The minibar of course was over-the-top not-worth-the-money expensive, and the restaurants in the hotel are quite upscale and pricy (didn't bother going to one). If you drive it will be 21 bucks a day to park your car in the cramped underground garage. Good location though relative to Rogers Centre, and many other downtown Toronto attractions.

The hotel check-in ...
David Jun 9, 2008
The hotel check-in experience was terrible. Our room was not available when we arrived at the hotel after 4:00pm, and no one ... at the front desk had an idea when it would be available. After much proding, we were told the room would be available in about an hour (5:15pm). The room was not available at 5:15pm. During this whole episode, we were only offered one free drink at the hotel bar, which we refused. The room was tiny, with an oversized bed, and too much furniture. The closet was a miniscule wooden box with a few hangers. The in-room safe was located in a dark and hard to reach corner of the wooden closet. The carpet near the bathroom was frayed and constituted a tripping hazard. The Metropolitan Hotel Toronto does not meet the standards associated with Preferred Hotels. The hotel is home to two excellent restaurants and a warm and inviting cocktail lounge.
