Good Resort, Bad Food
MrsKateSmith Jun 24, 2009
The hotel staff was very friendly, but they are severly understaffed. We spent a lot of time waiting for drinks and food. ... The frozen drinks were OK, but the other drinks were all bottom shelf liquor. The only beer was Dos Equis (good stuff!). The beach was pretty, but there's a prettier beach 20 yards away on the other side of the pier. The snorkeling is good and free. The pools are very pretty and there's always an activity going on. The room (Junior Suite) was amazing. It was always clean. Tip - it's very humid in the rooms, so make sure you dry your swim suits and towels on the balcony. As for the food - it was a 2 on a scale from 1 to 5. Breakfast was their only good meal. The meats are questionable and there weren't a lot of fresh fruits and veggies. Tips - be careful getting in and out of the tub. A guest broke her foot the first day there and spent the rest of her vacation in a wheelchair. Her grandson was jumped 2 nights later because he was walking the streets at 4 am. Bring fiber bars. It'll help you with the gross food. Bring lots of Off. The bugs are awful after the sun goes down. Rent mopeds and drive around the island. It was by far our favorite part of the trip. We stopped at a little place called Albertos and had the best cold beer and quesadillas. We were also able to visit the Mayan ruins. The major shops in town are closed on Sundays. The bars are closed on Monday nights. Don't purchase the round trip voucher to and from the hotels. It's a $7 cab ride anywhere in town. The voucher is $56.

Rondina Jun 20, 2009
The room and the staff were great. When we got there they had just re-opened so it was very quite. The only thing lacking ... was the food. There was not much choice in what they served. My husband and I ate off the grill every night. We could not eat in the fancy place because he did not bring long pants, but the smells coming out of it were yummy. The waite staff knew your drink order by the next day.

The Melia ruined my vacation
Bad Experience May 26, 2009
I was extremely disappointed in the Melia...We booked our trip for the Melia and days before our arrival they closed the ... resort. This trip was to celebrate our honeymoon. I currently live in Afghanistan and was looking forward to spending two weeks with my wife at the Melia in the Paradise Suite. When we arrived, we were informed they had change our resort to the ElCozumeleno resort and received a standard room. This did not set well with me and ruined the first day of our vacation. I have stayed at the Melia in the past and enjoyed it...this time I'm very disappointed in the way we were treated.

Best Vacation Ever
Fans of Cozumel May 11, 2009
We upgraded to the oceanfront suite. Well worth the money. The service and food was superior. The wait staff was very ... professional!! The beach is beautiful with soft white sand. Sometimes the water had a seaweed that looks like confetti and isn't that bad but you will want to walk next door to snorkel, which is only a short distance. We stayed a couple of days at another resort and the service and food could not compare! We really missed the Melia staff. If you like long walks on the beach this is the place. Their champagne was excellent also. The other report had no sparking wines.
Traveler type: Couples
Rent a scooter and make stops at the El Cid (snorkel a plane wreck from a James Bond movie), Money Bar (this is one of the snorkel stops if you take a boat trip), Albertos, Sanchos and The Beach Club. (You could hang out at any one of these locations all day. The Beach Club had the best homemade chips and strawberry margaritas on the island. If you are looking for a place to relax and get away from it all, this is the place!!

My husband and I recently stayed at the Melia. We were ver impressed. Upon arrival we were upgraded to an ocean view suite. ... It was very nice. We were on the 9th floor and had a great view. We arrived 3 hours before check in and our room was not ready yet, but we were able to leave our bags with the bell boy and we went to eat and get a few drinks. Our room was ready in about an hour. The staff was very nice and always friendly. The beach was beautiful and so was the pool. Breakfast was the best meal, and I'm not nuch of a breakfast person. The other meals were good too, not great, but even my husband who is a picky eater could always find something he liked. The drinks were always good too! The only have 2 minor complaints. The first is that the beds are kind of hard, and the other is that there isnt much to do after dinner at the hotel. They do have a show and then a disco after, but there was never anybody in there after the show. This was a very nice relaxing vacation. You don't even have to dress up. Even for dinner, the most you would have to get dressed up is for the nicer restaurants, and the guys can just wear jeans or kakhis and the girls can wear sundresses. We were way over dressed. We would definatley go back!

Make sure and go through the time share. It is an easy way to get $ 80.00 Melia bucks and you are in and out in less than 2 ... hours. The food was OK, not great. There is one place to eat that requires long pants to get in. When you arrive you will be offered an upgrade to the tower, it is worth it.

Not inviting to middle aged people for shows at night or during the day. Pool bar closes at 5:30 in the afternoon, think that ... is really too early with a packed pool, and boom no more drinks unless you get clothed and go inside. The bright spot is the view from the hotel and beach is great. Wait staff unless you tip ahead and make on impression with them, very unfriendly and slow to get your drinks.

Nice friendly staff, great beach. Bring your own travel mug to cut your trips to the bar. Ignore the time share sales people ... if you're not interested, they'll get the idea. Food was OK, have had better, but you get what you pay for and the price was right. If you're looking for constant activities, and high energy entertainment, this isn't the place. If you're looking to relax and enjoy the sun and beach, you can't miss.
