No Complaints - Great Stay / Value

Would recommend to a friend!

We spent 5 days at the Marriott on a quick dive trip and the hotel served our needs very well. The rooms are nice and clean, ... the staff is extremely friendly and helpful and the overall location is very convenient to both Georgetown and other hotels/restaurants. The hotel restaurant was good, although the bar menu & food was just OK (lots of fried dishes. Beach is nice, but dont let the claims of snorkeling get you too excited, the beach reefs are a shell of what they used to be before the hurricane, and they are desperately trying to recover them through reef restoration measures.... Overall, would recommend this for people looking for a good value with a good location. For those looking for more upscale venues, there may be better options.

Coconut Joes, have the 'splash of the day' if its locally caught fish, (grouper) its well worth the money, better than the hotel food. If you hire a car, you can see the whole island in a day.

This was the best vacation I've taken so far! The hotel could not have been in a better location! The whole stay felt so ... luxorious.. the first night there we needed a bottle opener and within 5 minutes someone was with one at this door. later in the week we called to ask where a microwave was and they just brought one to our room free of charge! The rum punch on arrival also was a great way to welcome us! OUTSTANDING service, beyond friendly staff, BEAUTIFUL location. The staff had wonderful suggestions for best places to eat, shop, etc. Would highly recommend this hotel and can't wait to go back again!!

This was a wonderful hotel. We were there during off season so we did have to endure some noisiness due to construction, but ... since we didn't spend lots of time in the hotel, this was ok. The one down side (probably a function of off season...but maybe not..) there were "theme" nights in the hotel restaurant i.e., all you could eat lobster night...not wanting lobster, we then had to resort to the hotel bar for other food (which was very good...but go figure...we could eat different stuff in the bar...but not in the restaurant). Staff was very helpful when trying to find other places to eat, things to do, etc.

Excellent vacation...AGAIN!!!!

Would recommend to a friend!

We stayed at this hotel last year and we enjoyed ourselves so much we came back again. We like to go different places every ... year, but we couldn't resist. The rooms are spacious and very clean and the hotel is well run. The pool is ok- not great for a resort- but the ocean is amazing a few steps away so it makes up for the lack of a fun pool. The staff are always friendly and helpful and we have nothing but good things to say about all of them. The only thing we didn't like is that the cost of food- even kids meals-is outrageous. However that goes for most of the island especially with the exchange rate, so we purchased a few things at the grocery store for the kids and there is a small fridge in the room and a few restaurants within walking distance so we made do. We would go back again and I am sad that I am back in reality!

Perfect for snorkelling

OSUKAR Aug 19, 2009

Room was much smaller than I thought. Food was OK but too expensive. There is a construction going on next door, some times ... can be annoying. Beach is narrow but ocean is perfect esp. for the ones desire snorkeling. First day I forgot my bag full with our snorkels, goggles, and fins next to the shower, and it was gone. THE WORST... I was shocked when I learned that there was no surveillance camera on the beach, in a "BEACH RESORT", probably only known by the personnel. You know what I mean.. But other than that it is safe on the beach.. You can leave your stuff unattended even all day long. Nothing extra rather than the beach... Didn't see the umbrella guys and towel lady (one of two) smiling at all. But they are polite enough.

The hotel is in a perfect location. Rent a car and just go out and about. We never felt unsafe and there are tons to do ... outside the resort. Visit the Turtle Farm, swim with the dolphins, scuba dive, etc. The resort has great snorkling right off the beach so you will see tons of great things without leaving. The pool is small but every resort on the island has a small pool. The ocean front room from the 5th floor was very nice. Would spend the extra for the view. Was very nice to wake up and see the ocean every morning. Overall we had a great vacation. We went to Aruba last year and both places are neck and neck as our favorites. Oh yeah, forgot to mention the food. Everything is expensive at the nicer restaurants. We found an Eats Cafe just up the road that had nice pricing and great food for breakfast. We did not eat dinner there but prices were more normal. I would recommend this hotel and when we go back we will be staying here again.

Stay in the Cayman Islands

Mother and Daughter Aug 13, 2009

My daughter and I looked forward to visiting the Cayman Islands. However as African Americans we were treated with an ... aloofness that bordered on racism. We would walk into some restaurants and have to wait a long time before someone would ask us what we needed. There was one time when we were on the beach and a waiter at the Marriott, was walking around asking other persons who were white what they wanted to order and we were left sitting watching. He never came in our direction. He just kept walking up and down. Finally I got up and ordered the food from the bar. Now do not get me wrong I do not have a chip on my shoulder, but I must say the racism was so blatant that I had to work really hard to look past their stupidity. Needless to say I was very disappointed and will never return to the Cayman Islands at all. I have told all of my friends and family not to as well. African Americans find another place to spend your vacation. If you are white this is the perfect spot for you. Very nice hotel though.

Would recommend to a friend!

overall staff was helpful however when complaining about room location next to construction site next door staff was ... alouf.Beach is beautiful but again smelling diesel fumes from buldozer while laying on beach is not on my list of good points. Drinks at beach bar a little expensive ( 16 dollars for 2 draft local beers)

Great Hotel, Great Vacay

CuteCouple Aug 10, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

Went with my boyfriend for a quick vacation. Perfect location on the beach. Watersports/activities on site. Very very very ... helpful and friendly staff. Arranged for transportation and gave dining reccommendations. Very clean hotel with beautiful lobby, rooms, and outdoor dining and lounge area. Beach chairs and umbrellas provided on beach. Meals available in hotel but can get pretty expensive-- plenty of other dining alternatives nearby.

Great location

noozie Jul 31, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

Hotel staff was friendly. Rooms were clean and we had a garden view with balcony. Rooms were quiet. Very convenient to ... affordable restaurants. We ate at Cimboco, Chicken Chicken and at the Wharf and they were within walking distance of the hotel. We used the bus system that was very convenient. The reef behind the hotel was fun for the family to snorkel and there were many easy snorkel sites from the beach Cemetery Reef and Eden Rock near George Town. We would return to the Marriott again. Great family vacation.

Recreation/Attractions hint, Short Drive

See the Botanic gardens about 1/2 hour drive from the hotel but remember to take a bottle of water if you go on the weekend.

Dining hint, Short Walk

A short walk across the street is Coconut Joe's. A casual dining/drinking establishment located under a huge tree. Sitting at the bar will sure to entertain you, as the locals engage in friendly conversation.

Money savers hint

Don't waste your time or money shopping in George Town or anywhere on the island for that matter. It is very expensive and filled with nothing but jewelry stores.

--Kimmie travels, The Florida Keys Oct 24, 2009

Dining hint, Short Walk

Coconut Joes, have the 'splash of the day' if its locally caught fish, (grouper) its well worth the money, better than the hotel food. If you hire a car, you can see the whole island in a day.

For all those who love to snorkel.. would highly recommend Captain Marvin's snorkeling trips, along with stingray city. Affordable, a bus can even pick you up at this hotel- wonderful experience!!

Money savers hint, Short Drive

Look for the "attractions book" that has coupons for lots of stuff...we found it in one of the malls we walked though about half way through our trip...it was not at the hotel, would have been nice to have earlier.

One of the bellmen told us about a very LOCAL restaurant he liked called Champion House and it was FANTASTIC and a great deal and worth the short cab ride!!!!

There are several other restaurants, and others like Pizza Hut, Wendy's, Burger King, etc. very close to hotel.

Eden Rock dive center was an awesome place to go diving. I was the only person to sign up for the Resort Dive that day so it was just me and the instructor. Great things to see at their location so you don't have to travel out far. We saw some very cool things and even a Nurse Shark! It was sleeping under the reef. Very cool!

Recreation/Attractions hint, In Hotel

One thing to watch for, the in hotel recreation provider Red Sail sports is super expensive. Walk next door to the Comfort Suites. Their scuba shop was probably the most reasonable on the island.

--Jersey Diving Dave, Hoboken, NJ Jul 28, 2009

Dining hint, Short Walk

The food is great but the prices are expensive.

Cemetery beach is approximately six miles north of the Marriott. It is a quiet, uncrowded beach lined with shade trees. Snorkeling is a short distance from the shore.

--NtegraT, Houston,Tx Jul 14, 2009

Money savers hint

Use the mini-bus system for getting around the island rather than taxis. Buses run on the road right in front of the hotel, and it's a flat fee of $2 Cayman ($2.50 US) to anywhere they go on the western side of the island. You don't even need to be at a bus stop...they will just pick up and drop off anywhere along their route.

--Mike, San Francisco, CA Jul 8, 2009

Dining hint, Short Walk

Cimboca - Great breakfast. Reasonably priced. Terrific service. Triple Crown Pub - Great atmosphere. Good food. Engaging bartender ([...]).Ragazzi Ristorante - Best meal I had! Great wine selection. Kaibo Beach Bar - If you travel to the other side of the island forget Rum Point (crowded - bad service) - go to Kaibo (right down the road). Wonderful!
