Traveled for a short vacation. It was a great location, near great restaurants. Very comfortable. On the western edge of ... stuff travelers want to see, but if that's the side you are looking for, definitely recommend. There is a bistro in the hotel which was good, but you are in Canada's restaurant heaven, so go out!!

We had a great time walking through Old Montreal, what a great place to visit. The Hotel was top drawer; late check-in late ... check out was great. We drove to Mount Royal to observe the city, what a great view. We do not speak French, but everyone helped out so it was a great trip.

"Adequate and convenient lodgings"
Greg Canadian Expat Aug 14, 2009
Went to Montreal for American Consulate visa issues. The hotel is a relatively short walk from most cafes, restaurants, ... shopping and touristy sites of interest. The American Consulate was a pleasant and convenient-enough 15 minute walk, and would be a very quick cab ride. The staff of the hotel was, overall, not very helpful and had attitudes. There were a few exceptions of helpful and friendly staff. This, though, reflects my experience of Montrealers, in general. The funny thing is that those few who are nice are particularly nice in a way Canadians are known for.

This is the third time I have visited. Place-des-arts (a 15 minute walk from the hotel which takes you through areas of good shopping and great bakeries) is worth researching and visiting before you go. My first two visits were a few years ago in early July during the Jazz Festival which I enjoyed. During this recent visit, I attended the FrancoFolies Montreal, the largest French musical festival in the world. Both these and other events take place at the Place-des-arts and include a lot of outdoor and free music events in a modern and clean setting with lots of people, cafes, and casual food options close-by.

The hotel is almost perfect! The "almost" part is about the cleanning! The hotel is clean, the sheets and towels are good, ... but they don't really clean the floor, my impression was that room service was just changing the sheets and towels and making the bed! No vacuum!

Quick stop in Montreal
Enthusiastic traveler Jul 14, 2009
We stayed at the Maritime Plaza for one day but we were fortunate to be able to check in before noon because there was a ... room available. This gave us a chance to freshen up before we headed out to explore Montreal. After a long day of sightseeing that included miles of walking we came back late at night to a most comfortable and clean bed. The pillows were down feathers as was the quilt which was encased in fine silky cotton. The result was a refreshing night's sleep that made us ready for our trip to Quebec City the next day.
Traveler type: Family
The Maritime is at the edge of downtown Montreal, the opposite direction from the historical district and Notre Dame Basilica. We made the mistake of not mapping out the best route to get to the district. It was walkable, something which we prefer to do because we can get a better feel for the city. But we listened to our cab driver and the clerk at the hotel who suggested we take St. Catherine Street to eat and then proceed to the historical district. St. Catherine Street was a very unattractive street with ordinary stores and no attractive French cafes. It also took us out of our way because we went far beyond the point where we should have turned (our mistake). We finally did come across a wonderful cafe with great food that fortified us to continue our walk to the historical district. After checking out the sites we had a wonderful French meal at the Nelson Jardin.

Not what you would hope for in a 4-star
Shoe Girl Jul 12, 2009
This hotel was not what we'd expected when we booked, we wish that we'd chosen our second or even third choice, and the deal ... was not even all that good! The hotel lobby was under construction and we were happily right above it on the second floor. The shower did not work but the AC sure did, we could not turn it off and it did not respond to any changes that we made with the thermostat, we had to cover it with a book to stem the flow of cold air. The bed was sufficient but there were only 2 pillows and when we asked for one more, we waited for an hour and a half and it did not come. We were given only 2 towels and we asked for 2 more and they did not come either. Stay ANYWHERE else when you visit Montreal, it is not worth saving money to stay at the Maritime Plaza.

I was there for a weekend getaway with some buddies, I was trying to impress, the picture looked great, but when I arrived I ... was taken aback how the exterior of the hotel is a bit shoddy. The interior however is really nice, it's very clean, but the rooms are on small side, and my air conditioning didn't work. I would recommend this for a single traveler, or maybe a business if your not having them visit you at the hotel. The rooms were way too small to have children in them and maintain sanity, or grown men preparing for a night out on the town, we were bumping into each other left and right.

Great Location & Staff
savvytraveler Jun 8, 2009
In town for the weekend. Came up for the bike Montreal tour after a long time since being here. I am very impressed with the ... city and all it has to offer. As we aproached the Plaza Maritime Hotel I must say the outside looked a bit dated, but one step inside the door and it was elegant and relaxing at the same time. All of the staff were very professional, competent, and helpful. The room was also very nice and clean with a great view. While I really liked this hotel and would recommend it, I think housekeeping might want to mention the broken box spring to management, and moving the TV should be added to the dusting routine, but over all it was clean and comfortable. Getting to the underground metro was also very convenient and the proximty to great resturants and shopping on St Catherine Street was great. All in all a lovely time!

The first room smelled and was next to the ice machine and elevator. The second room was a downgrade (two doubles in stead of ... one queen) and next to the elevator. Not great! Outdated rooms and general hotel lobby, etc. need attention. If you have very low expectations and find a great deal on the place then maybe, but look elsewhere first.

Worst check-in, ridiculous food prices.
denvaboys May 27, 2009
When we arrived the hotel had no reservation from us and took 30 minutes to find it from Orbitz. The front desk "man" was ... rude and seemed upset that he had to go look us up. He gave us cards to the wrong room, we opened the door to an already occupied room! When we asked questions to this same person, he seemed annoyed and gave us vague answers. The room had a wonderful view of the air-conditioner. The breakfast in the hotel was a complete rip-off. I could have spent $17 on slimy eggs, dry sausage and greasy bacon and at least had more variety. The alarm clock in the vacant room next to us went off two mornings in a row after we complained about being woken up at 5 am!

GraduateStudent May 25, 2009
This hotel is good for its price. It is by no means a 4 star hotel as we would normally expect in the US, but it is clean, ... pleasant, and comfortable. The location is in downtown, close to the nightlife of St Catherine and Crescent St. It is also 2 blocks from one metro, and 3-4 blocks from a second metro stop. Traveling throughout the city from the hotel was therefore very easy. Also, the rooms are clean and comfortable, and the staff helpful. Overall, we were very happy with our stay.
