set in the lovely Makaha Valley, the resort is wonderfully secluded. downsides were no walk to the beach, and the drive to ... the resort is a bit long. overall the experience was quite lovely, i just wish we didn't have commitments in honolulu, as the drive took up much of our time back and forth. golf course is average, i actually expected a little more for the price, but if you're looking for quiet relaxation, this is the place to go.

We have been to this resort before but i think they are in a transition period. The resort is renovating and the main ... restuarant is closed. The resort maintanence was not to their ussually standards. the staff was very frendly and the views are amazing. The location is a hefty drive from major attractions. But it is a nice retreat from the hussle and bussle of the city. One would need a car while staying at the resort. The golf course is amazing. Overall it is a nice place to stay for a quiet time. But the resort needs to offer more to accomdate the secluded location. We didn't care for the basic restuarant, I would have preferred their formal restuarant that had more options and better quality.

This older property on Oahu's west side is nestled nicely in the Makaha Valley which is beautiful. The golf course was in ... good shape with some really challenging holes with great views of the ocean. The older rooms were ok but unlike many properties in Hawaii the beds have not been updated and were uncomfortable. The staff were very friendly and accommodating and Jenny who gave us shuttle rides from our room was a gem !!! The only big negative was the trip up the highway passed by many homeless encampments which took away from the natural beauty of the area. The snack bar had great hamburgers and onion rings at a reasonable price. Make sure you bring snacks since there is nothing close except a 7 Eleven a couple of miles away. For the price this is a great deal if you want peaceful surroundings and golf at a reasonable price.

We were here for one night. The greeting staff was great and the pool area is nice. However, we made a reservation for the ... big buffet dinner at their nice restaurant. When we went to go to dinner, we found that the restaurant was closed for renovation. . .no one told us this when we called for our reservation or when we checked in- the website is not up to date with this. We asked the man at the front desk if there were any places to eat in town (the menu at the poolside bar had nothing vegetarian on the menu, and my husband is a vegetarian). He was neither friendly, nor helpful. We ended up having a nice romantic dinner at Pizza Hut (no one could give us a recommendation nearby, and driving around, we could not find anything nearby). The room was okay, but was pretty rundown and very outdated. The carpet was wet from where the A/C had leaked on it and was stained as well. It was pretty, but we wouldn't stay again and were very disappointed.

Honolulu 4th of July 2009 Trip
Drama in Makaha Jul 7, 2009
The trip's purpose was to spend the 4th of July with family that lives in Hawaii, so the reason for getting a hotel was ... basically to have a place to sleep. I guess this property would be fine if you like to play golf (I'm not a golfer) since most of the folks running around in golf carts seem to be enjoying themselves, however, the rooms are small, dark (even when you turn the lights on) and very outdated. The hotel is screaming for a makeover. The television in our room was barely a 19" set, the beds are in need of a new mattress and the carpet looked dirty. The lanai had cracks in it and the sliding door took some effort to open and close (rails were in need of replacement)

Amazing place to get away!
Bean Machine Jun 27, 2009
This was our first time in Hawaii, but I knew that I didn't want to stay amid the hustle and bustle of Waikiki which is why ... we chose Makaha. I am so glad we did! The peacefulness and tranquility of the resort made for a much more relaxing vacation and gave us a true picture of Hawaii, rather than the paved over versions in Honolulu. The staff were friendly and welcoming and more than happy to shuttle you back and forth to your room in a golf cart, no matter what the hour. I was surprised when we got there that the rooms are located in individual little fourplexes so there was none of that big hotel feel, but more like a little home of our own. We were in a large second floor room with a king bed and an amazing balcony. We were never disturbed by any noises from other guests and felt like we had the place to ourselves. Our extended family has been talking of a vacation together and that will be the ideal place to go because each family could have their own room in the fourplex and yet we would still be together. The one downfall of the resort is the fact that it is so far from other attractions. This isn't a problem if you have a rental car, because it is an easy drive and the highways are well signed. Without a rental car, you would miss the amazing sights on the north shore and the lush tropical beauty of the rest of the island. Of course, if you were just interested in golf, sun, quiet solitude then you could spend many a day in paradise at the Makaha Golf Resort without a worry!

There is construction on the road to get back to the rest of the Island so we had to get up and leave by 8am every day to ... beat it as it runs 8:30-3. The resort is nice, quiet, friendly. The pool is really nice. The restaurant there is good with friendly staff and prices that are a little less than in Honolulu. The beaches in this area (west side of Oahu) have a lot of homeless living on them, but not too close to the resort. We got to see Gecko's, peacocks and their babies and mongoose which inhabit this area. The rooms are nice and clean. It was peaceful here.
Traveler type: Family
Not many other places to eat for 20 miles if you don't eat at the resort. Food there is pretty good and the staff are nice and helpful. Prices are less than Honolulu. Also, no restaurants near the airport in Honolulu so eat before you are in this area.

this is modern hawaii and extremely local. just up from the surfing beach on the west side. many homeless on the beaches here ... living in tents but none up by the resort. nice golf course and good price. many local people whole families come and swim and party and play golf. the coffee shop is a little expensive but not as much as most hotels in hawaii. down the hill close is many fast food places as well as local fare such as loco moco--rice gravy and hamburger or spam on top.

I and my boyfried stayed Makaha resort. I wanted stay in Wikiki first but he wanted to stay. I appreciate his decision. It ... was quiet and beautiful place. Great view of valley and ocean. I hear voices of birds in morning, smell of ocean, and just beautiful valley view. This resort beautifully, build in the valley, you do not see much man-made environment. We had to drive hours to get to city, but it is worth to stay in this resort. Staff were friendly and willing to fullfill my request. There were very pleasant. I will come back to this hotel when I visit Hawaii.

Nice getaway from city type life
Jshoota Mar 23, 2009
First thing I have to say is...It's hard to get the best of both worlds in Oahu. If want the busy party scene, waikiki is ... the spot for you. If You want an affordable get-away from the city crazinest, Makaha Golf Resort is the choice. If you want both u gotta pay the big bucks, or go outer island. The golf course was great. staff very friendly. loved the get-a-way feel, in which i wanted. Only negative is it takes at least a good 40 minutes to get to Waikiki, because there is only one main road out of there with a few stop lights.(which seems to take a good 10 minutes) As soon as u hit the freeway, its not that bad. PLEASE time your travel (on weekdays) after the early morning rush hour traffic, about 10am should be fine, and time the return before or after the rush hour too.(the traffic will be hell if u don't. Oahu is beautiful and very populated) If you want to go to a beach for the family, or to just relax(without the pounding surf) the Ko'olina resort(5 or 6 star resort) is nearby(15 min drive tops), where u can go use there nice "lagoon" type beach areas. The beach parks near Makaha resort are not going to be as inviting, do to the tent city that you come across from some of the homeless. Yes there are ghettos and homeless in Hawaii too. Growing up in Hawaii myself, this doesn't bother me as much as vacationers that might not be prepared for it. Being on the far west of island does give u access to the North side a little quicker, which is beautiful and home of the best shave ice(Matsumotos), and Beeeautiful country side, Dole pineapple fields, etc.

Everyone involved with our stay was very helpful and gracious and we were very satisfied with people that cleaned our room. ... Whenever we asked for help for anything everyone was prompt. We were given great directions to where we wanted to go or what we wanted to visit even though it was a distance to things we wanted to see. The people in Hawaii were more then helpful. Our best experience was visiting a Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Makaha. They presented a great service and more then welcoming. All in all we would recomend trip to everyone for the price.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. The setting is beautiful and the grounds are very well maintained. The cleaning ... staff did a superb job. The only negative is that the unit to which we were assigned (Q BLDG, the hallway carpet was worn and torn. It needs replacing very badly.) The rooms are very small. (App. 12 X 15 plus bath and entrance hall) We spent 10 days in this room. It gets to you in a while. Lighting in the room was very poor. One could not read at night because the lighting was so poor. The resort is in a remote area. Other than dinner, there are absolutely no activities available in the evening without a trip back into Honolulu app. 35 miles away. In spite of the few items, I would certainly recommend Makaha again.

We arrived early and they not only let us register early, but extended our checkout to allow us to stay due to late flight. A ... Hawaiian ceremony was taking place in the pool area and staff let us know about it so we could go right there. Particularly liked the cart shuttle so we didn't have to tote luggage. The views from the hotel are spectacular--but where isn't it in Hawaii. We found the dining reasonable and delicious. Mahi mahi was fresh, well-cooked and delicious. Presentation was excellent with orchids on our plates. Room decor was typically tropical and fresh. Loved the hotel and will stay there again.
